Great video. I really get excited when I see people fly fishing for coarse fish. It’s a lovely stretch of river you’re fishing. You’ve got some great casting skill as well, although I’m curious as to wether you lost a few flies in those beaches!! It’s a great feeling when you do hook up with the fly, get to n the carp on the fly if you can, they are an awesome battle. I’m definitely going to pinch that Kate McLaren pattern from you; it seems to work really well. Thanks for sharing.
Great video …I find the bigger chub tend to reside at the top end / head of a pool with smaller fish shoaled behind them…I use lightly dressed size 14,16 and 18 wide gape barbless trout hooks and short fluoro coloured tails which seems to help hook up rates…a lightly beaded 1.5 or 2 mm dia tungsten nymph hanging behind a dry fly works well too early mornings / late evenings …thanks for sharing your experiences on the river
Great vid, really enjoyed that you kept experimenting, those Dace were lovely fish I've had plenty of chub on the sedge, they usually like a trigger colour (green or red) which you have as the tag. Try fishing upstream but keep a tighter line, as the fish will often hook themselves 🖒🖒🖒
Thank you I’ll have to give it a go, I’m fairly new to fly fishing and hadn’t really considered casting upstream but I’ll give it a go next time I’m out. Thanks for the advice!
Thank you I appreciate that a lot! I don’t typically fly fish so it found it quite exciting catching these fish even though they were on the small side
I’ve not found myself in that situation yet unfortunately haha but plenty of people catch salmon that size on the fly. You’d be able to land any size fish if you had the appropriate strength line and gear!
Now then! I'd imagine, absolute guess though based on my own experience... bigger bait, bigger fish potentially? Chub seem to love the Salmo Rattlin' Hornet, is that what you were using beforehand?
Now then Simon, i had the sinking hornet on for a bit beforehand. Managed one trout and kept getting small nibbles without any proper takes so I decided to try fly. I know another stretch of the same river where the chub are much bigger, those ones will definitely be falling victim to the Salmo hornet in the near future. Thanks for the comment!
No worries! Try the floating version too, it will dive when you retrieve to about a metre max, but a slow retrieve will keep it shallow. Works a treat for me 😉
Simon Beckwith I have a couple in my box, I’ll start using them more I think I’m just naturally a bit more drawn to the sinking one because of the slightly more vibrant colour! Just ordered some salmo lil bugs in ladybird, beetle and wasp looking forward to trying those out too
The big ones hang out with the small ones and tend to be less aggressive and the small ones are so aggressive that they will chase rooster tails the size of them.

My casting skills definitely need some work but thanks for watching, glad you enjoyed the video!

Another good video. Keep them coming. Glad the flies are working for you brother 🙌🙌🙌
The Kate mclaren was working very well! Next time I’m out I might give the bracken clock a run out see if I can get my first wild trout on it
@@adventurefishinguk deffo mate. I've got some new patterns I've tied. Especially for this time of year. I'll send them to you next week ☺️
Sam Greenway that would be brilliant thanks mate 🐟👍
@@adventurefishinguk no worries at all mate 😊
Simpatičan video, hvala i pozdrav iz Srbije
Thanks for watching mate! Much appreciated 👍
Now then!! Looks like a great spot that bong, catch you down the road!

What a thoroughly enjoyable video. Have a sub.

Great stuff fella 👍. Bonnie stretching river too
Thanks mate I appreciate the comment 👍
Thanks. But chub or dace? How can you tell the difference?
I think google would be able to give you better guidelines than me i'm no expert!
I don't know if I want to get into fly fishing because I try its once and it was a mess. What if you hooked a 20lbs fish can you pull it to shore?

Great video 👍
Thanks mate! 🎣👍
Anyone else spot a couple of crocs in the water ha ha 😉
Of course, you don’t get more practicality from any other footwear
Very nice video. Keep it up. Would you mind telling us the location it was filmed on ?
Hi, glad you enjoyed the video! It’s on the river wyre in Lancashire
@@adventurefishinguk perfect conditions. I imagine this technique wouldn't have worked as good in murky or brown waters.
@@shalookalimited3443 I couldn’t really comment, firstly I hardly ever fly fish and secondly this was my fist experience catching dace and small chub!
NOTIFICATION GANG WHERE YOU At?????
Wish more of the notification gang showed their faces
Great video! Is this on the river Wyre?
It is yeah, shows how diverse the stretch of river is!
Now then!

True! Shame I never got into any of the bigger ones. Hopefully next time
5:26 never had a chub before? I have a chub every morning 👀
You definitely had a chub the other night, looked like she put up a good fight
Smart treads
usually only put them on when i'm dressing smart casual but decided to take them for a spin in the river due to their versatility
In my experience big cruise up and down
🎣
get a few small foam beetles
I do need to pick a few of those up I’ve heard they’re really good thanks for the recommendation
