Well done George. Nice fish. I found this on the net . As the smolts prepare for ocean life, their appearance also changes, from the dark colours of the fry to the silvery colour of adult salmon. This helps them hide in the light conditions of the surface waters of the open ocean, where there is no dark shade from overhanging trees.😊
Great video, our George. Love the effort and passion, and by god, mate, you’ve walked some miles. Thanks for bringing us another belting video, and it’s nice to see a pro UA-camr with his landing net all ready! Keep em coming,Mate. Top stuff!
Fantastic George, what a gorgeous stretch of river, perfect weather and some absolute beauties caught. Great film mate, excellent fish care 👌. Great stuff, atb Rick n Billydog
Fresh run salmon are silver. We used to call them bars of silver because that's what they are worth. When they get stuck in the river with no floods that's when they go black. They are usually female that are black and the pink ones are male. Think I got that the right way round 🤔💚💛❤️
Lovely couple of fish. Pretty sure they are both kelts. If the brown trout sre normally darker in that river then i would be inclined to say that first fish was a seatrout. Looks like you had great fun.
I don't know for sure, but I believe the colour salmon turn in fresh water can vary due to water clarity. If the water if clearer, they turn darker to aid in camouflage and breeding colors. In murkier water, they can stay silver because visibilityis low. It also depends on how close to the sea you are, it can take a week or more for a salmon to darken so if they only have a short journey they can often complete the cycle before they darken up.
Now then buddy. Hope all is good in the hood. What an absolute cracking session and another spot on video. Lovely Fish, my friend and well done and well deserved. All the best to you and the family 👍👍😄😄🎣🎣

@@adventurefishinguk Yes I caught a few George. Some Lizard fish and a few little Grouper type fish. It was just nice fishing and not knowing what will be on the hook.
Spring salmon fishing is tough and really limited to the big rivers . If you get a real Springer, you have no idea how much energy and strength they have in the cold water. I've accidently caught kelts on luncheon meat , worms and even Campbells meatballs on the river Annan in Scotland whilst chub fishing in February over many years ...Never happy to catch them as they are so nutrient depleted that the energy of the fight could finish them off .
Thanks for watching! springers come up this river, just few and far between. Hopefully I’ll come across a few later in the year! And yeah I definitely wouldn’t fancy hooking a salmon on light chub gear that’s for sure!
Cracking mate well bloody done, nothing better to fish for! It would’ve been a kelt, I learnt this by catching one last season. Salmon change their colours for spawning - not because of the freshwater or river. The river they spawn in may have some influence on the spawning colours they have though. Easiest way to tell is their body conditions, much likelier that the second fish was fresh. We’ll have to have a salmon session this season
Thanks a lot mate! I always thought it was because of the water like a sea trout. I reckon the second one is probably a kelt too but very well mended! Yeah we will definitely have to get out salmon fishing this year 👍
Definitely a kelt buddy. But like you say well mended. Can usually tell around the tummy where it looks empty and the fins can be damaged from digging the redds.
Great video George, to answer your question about salmon being coloured in fresh water. A lot of people believe that longer salmon are in fresh water it turns the colour on them but that’s not entirely true, a salmon does go coloured in the river but it’s due to getting their spawning colours & getting ready to spawn so more so to do with time of year than how long being in freshwater. Once a salmon has spawned & becomes a kelt they lose their spawning jackets and return silver like the ones you’ve caught & have been in freshwater the entire time, hope this helps. Same for baggots/Rawners aswel they turn back silver once the urge to spawn has gone.

I live in Rakaia in New Zealands South Island the Rakaia river has a well known Salmon run starting in November and the main run in February/March. The fish stop feeding when they enter the river and catching them is very tough. It is only their aggression that makes them snap out at lure that bounces past their nose.

A salmon that has already spawned and is swimming back to sea 👍
@@adventurefishinguk tnks 👍
sea-trout (the snaller fish), well into it migration downstream, a hen fish too by the rounded head, once in saltwater females make up 8 out of every 10 fish
Very interesting, what makes you think it’s not on its way up out of interest?
@@adventurefishinguk id imagine its a late river so the main run of seatrout would be in that river system are out in the sea again feeding hard after spawning (mortality rates are a lot less in seatrout than salmon after spawning) the small first winter fish in general stay on the coast or esturies and maintain there silvery coats but the fish droppin to the sea in round the same mark generally still have a tinge of brown but of course sea-trout being sea-trout they dont read the books we do and will do things when they shouldnt, i got fish in saltwater well away from any river system that looked almost like browns, the danish call them "greeders", seatrout fishing in the uk is the great undiscoverd gem, sorry for the length of the answer btw, im far from an expert but ive had more than a few tussles with them
@@whitetroutchannel Thanks for the detailed response it was great to read!
@@adventurefishinguk your very welcome mate! if you and the mrs happenin to be visitin the province of ulster and wana try saltwater seatrout hit me up amigo, keep up the tight work 👍👍🎣
@@whitetroutchannel I’ll bare that in mind if I ever come over thanks for the offer!
Pacific salmon run in the fall...
We get a Spring run of steel head which is a sea run rainbow trout..?
But no salmon in spring.
That's cool, we have atlantic salmon running as early as late winter. We call a sea run brown trout just a sea trout over here
@@adventurefishinguk I've never seen a sea run brown trout. I think they were introduced here, And that may explain why.... Actually, That might make a good video!
Do we think the second one was Baggot ?
A few people have messaged me saying that’s what they think it is 👍
both kelts. check the gills for maggots next time if in doubt
I'll make sure I have a look next time!
It's beautiful there ❤
Amazing place isn’t it!
That was a kelt indeed
I think so too 👍 thanks for watching!
well done and amazing .
Thank you!
I can say I reckon it is a sea trout as I get brown trout all the time and have never seen one like that.
I think so too mate! Thanks for watching 👍
Both Kelts, they regain their silver colour after spawning as they head back to the sea.
Yeah I thought that might be the case, thanks for watching!
Kelts do Start to turn back to silver as they head back to sea, both were kelts.
Ah okay thanks for the info! I always assumed they would be like sea trout and just turn silver in saltwater
I’m pretty sure that first fish you caught was a rainbow trout
No wild rainbow trout on this river mate! Thanks for watching 👍
Yeah they're both kelts mate. That's why I usually don't go after salmon until start of April.
Yeah I thought they were, thanks for watching!
Looks like a sea trout to me they go a lot more sliver when they get to the sea
I think so too! Thanks for watching!
Now then, thanks to you, Andy from Rigged and Ready now received most of my income, so you owe me! I know very little about fishing and understand less, so. I wish, you’d quickly explain what you’re doing and why, show the bait/lure and say why you picked it. I assume, to fish got salmon, you’ve paid a fortune to be there, you can’t just rock up with a rod license and catch salmon can you? Great video.
Really glad you enjoyed the video thanks for watching! I’ll try to include a bit more tactic talk in some of my upcoming videos 👍 and yes, unfortunately just like rigged and ready take most of your income, fishing clubs and memberships take most of mine! 😂

Cheers pal :)
@@1967AJB there's hundreds of videos on UA-cam explaining all aspects of fishing, I'm sure George is already maxed out fiĺming and editing to have to include a full explanation of tactics and gear, just my thoughts 👍

Of course her are, but I like and trust this guy, and he’s using the kit I’ve bought on his recommendation. It would e good to know which tip on the X5 he’s using and why or which R&R lure he paired with the S Max. Plus I think it would add value these films, but thanks for pointing out that UA-cam has a search facility.
Same lol I've bought 3 sets of the infinite series, a 3000 and 6000 reel😂
