Fishing an ABANDONED Lake in the Woods… (2 days in Paradise!) 😯

- I walked deep into the forest to this forgotten Fishing Lake... but what lives here? This abandoned overgrown fishery is absolutely incredible, and so are the fish that live there. Join me for a couple of days as we explore, and go lure fishing early in the season for some wild brown trout. Trout fishing is definitely my favourite kind of fishing, especially lure fishing for trout, and i've been really excited about the season starting. It's finally here... so let's get fishing!

As usual an absolutely delightful upload and a bit of escapism at the end of the day, thanks George 👌🏻
I know where this is, George! Don’t worry I will keep it quiet 😁 Stunning place, I have fancied fishing it a few times but wasn’t sure what the permit situation was. Thanks for a great video 👍
Another brilliant video George, what a location, thanks for sharing
Great edit mate. 3 hours fishing, 5 hours filming, then hours of editing. Definitely upped the game 👌

I’ve got a lot of learning to go with it yet! Thanks for watching 👍
Great video George. Loving the 360 footage. Stunning trout again. I caught a stunner on the fly on the isle of Lewis recently.
Thanks mate! Yeah it’s going to take me a while to get to grips with the camera but it’s great fun. Glad to hear you’ve been having some luck too 👍
Great, theme trout look like fine Jewels!♦️
They certainly are!
Great video M8

Thanks for the ID i'll remember that for next time!
white belly too
Cute little wood
Mouse.
Rats are NOT so cute
...believe me...
Thanks for the info
Another quality upload! Thanks George!
Thanks for watching as always!
Small tiny streams are very much worth fishing. Usually do so with a piece of wood, some fishing line and small hooks. Because the trout in those streams tend to be 10cm maximum and they don't really get any bigger.
Know a place where the stream is no more than 5-7cm Deep, yet there is plenty of tiny trout in said stream. It's fun to fish them small, they are so shy, so you need to be helluva careful.
Sounds like a really interesting tactic thank you I might have to give it a go one day! Thanks for watching 👍
The video content was good, the 360 camera was a good purchase and really showed what a great place/venue you were fishing…
Thanks a lot mate really glad you enjoyed the video!
Great bud keep it up
Thanks for the support mate!
I would pull out the fly rod for this creek. I love the family guy moment from when you fell lol
Haha yeah I definitely turned into prefer griffin when I fell 😂 thanks for watching!
Loving your videos, and this one is no exception, beautiful scenery, stunning fish, great tips. Contacted Riggy at Rigged and Ready yesterday for advice on a rod for feeder fishing and really looking forward to receiving my X5 Max with additional extra fine tip. Brilliant personal service that you wouldn’t get from the big manufacturers. In the meantime I’ll have to get my fishy fix by watching your videos, well done!
Thank you, really happy you’re enjoying them! Rigged and ready have excellent customer service don’t they. The guarantee is second to none too!
Stunning location mate! Keep up the nice work. Greetz from belgium 👍
Thanks for watching mate!
I used to fish Brook Trout in small creeks like that! Drift a small hook and worm down it
I’d love to catch a brook trout one day they look so cool 👍 thanks for watching!
Epic video mate 🎉
Thanks mate glad you liked it!
That lure you made looks awesome. Beautiful fish and beautiful place.
Thanks mate I appreciate that!
When I was 10 used to fish a stream about 3 ft wide just with line and a stick with worms in wales had eels salmon part and brownies . Nothing big but great for fishing mad me 👍
Another quality video, love the locations you find fishing in really remote areas! Unreal 👏🏻
Thanks a lot for watching mate I'm glad you're enjoying the videos!
definitely a wood mouse
Thanks for the ID 👍
Great video mate 👍 looks a fantastic place
Great video usual mate, looking forward to seeing what you catch with the lures...👍🏻 Tight lines
Thanks mate! I'm looking forward to it too 👍
I freeline a worm without any weight on small streams and let the line out as the current takes it. It surprises me by the size of the trout I’ve had out of such small streams here in Wales. Small Mepps do the trick too when there’s a run long enough to work them and apart from sea fishing it’s the most enjoyable fishing I do.
Sounds like a really good tactic 👍 thanks for watching and for taking the time to comment!
Any tips on location near Newtown? Having a long weekend there next month. Any predator species or even carp?
Hi George, how about some tenkara fly fishing in those small streams?
I think that's definitely a good idea!
Great video George, love your work, you need to come to the lovely New Zealand to catch some big, big Brown trout.
Thanks for watching mate! I'd absolutely love that, it's a shame it's on the other side of the world!
...Great video my friend. As for small creeks, my father was a master @ those. Look for a pool, he had a very long fishing pole that he could reach the pool @ not be noticed. Have a very small creek I cross up to a reservoir, dropped a nymph & a beautiful Brook Trout, 2 lbs, took a look but declined offering. Never underestimate small creeks...
Liked and subscribed love your videos
Thanks for sticking around I appreciate it!
Good to see the banana George!
Haha yes I’m definitely making better choices now!
Definitely get on that stream with some micro lures and a small lightweight spinning rod. Can be a lot of fun
Yeah I think that's a good idea!
@@adventurefishingukonce river season opens up, give it a go. I had a holiday in Dorset and there was a little stream, I asked the owner could I fish it, and I was catching little wild trout all week! So much fun!
Yes you can fish such small streams, the Americans often do it via Tenkara methods and there can be some larger fish hiding in there. We have the river Gelt near me, and it can at times look like a small stream at best, but there is small trout to be had if you take it cautiously and keep hidden from view, so worth a try.
Ah yes I’ve seen a bit of tenkara fishing on UA-cam. It looks quite difficult! Thanks for watching 👍
As has already been said that was a wood mouse. Those small streams can be surprisingly productive with quite big fish in them. I was very surprised that there weren't more people fishing there, it's obviously a very popular area or they wouldn't have put all those paths there. Glad that your ankle is improving.
I got a net like that off Amazon, took the net part off and put a silicone one on instead for the trout and it’s easier to remove a hook from it. (Actually don’t get hooked)
Quality video mate nice to see you always improving. Helps when you have a bit of time off with a busted foot 😅
Thanks for watching mate! Yeah that definitely helped haha
i have had great luck at my grandads farm stream in the moors for brown trout. wont be more than a foot and a half at most a few really deep pools though. Great video!
Очень красивая форель.
Хорошо, что отпускаете рыбу.
Thanks for watching mate!
Another awesome looking place. Said before try fly fishing the stream. It doesn’t look like has a lot of deep pools but you’ll be surprised of size fish that could be in there. At any rate you will probably catch a lot of fish.
Next time you fish there try a mouse lure on the lake. State record brown in Pennsylvania was caught by an old friend (Joe Humphries who wrote many books on fly fishing and he taught fly fishing at Penn State University) on a mouse fly in bald eagle creek. The fish was an early evening and night feeder so try it then the next time you go.
Thanks again for sharing and keep the vids coming.
If you want to get into all the nooks and crannies on that water you should fish it from a float tube. Happy to show you how
I actually have a go on one of those in the video I’m editing now, was great fun!
you should change the single barb hooks on your crankbaits the other way around so the belly hook points downwards and the tail hook points upwards. Way better chance of hook up that way
Lovely place to cast a line. There's a couple of abandoned fisheries not too far from me that have a mix of wild and grown on trout. Theyre not very accessible, so only them as know know about them. They throw up some big surprises now and then, so it's always worth a pop. That was a wood mouse. You can tell by the white belly and bald tail.
Thanks mate! Where are you based? I’d love to come have a fish somewhere like that if you’d fancy it and you aren’t too far!
@@adventurefishinguk Im in Scotland. Theyre decent wee lochs, but maybe a wee bitty out of your way
@@thetattooedangler do you have an email address I can reach you on?
Wow your camera work as come on leaps and bounds ❤❤ 😊 haze outdoors
Thanks a lot mate I really appreciate it!
Hi, I'm returning to fishing after many years absence, just working my way through your back catalogue, 😂,,
Can you tell me when the closed seasons are, for coarse fish, and for trout,, 🤔🐠,
I'm in Yorkshire if that helps,,
Superb videos btw, keep up the good work, 👍👌
Little trout are fun to catch but get back to that abandoned quarry and catch another Ferox! Where there's one, I suspect there's more.
Fly would be ideal for that shallow spot.
Yeah I agree, i'm useless with a fly rod though!
00:34 Oooooo alright fancy pants!
Haha I watched a UA-cam tutorial on that shot 😂
@@adventurefishinguk 😂👏🏻
ive been here to video before......never fished it as only started fishing again last week
There’s fish in the stream before you get into the woods down from the car park
Fish of catchable size?
Love your videos m8. I'd defo change over too fly fishing if I was you... so much more rewarding and you will catch more. Be good too see how you get on with it George 👍
Thanks mate, glad you're enjoying the videos! I get frustrated with fly fishing but it's definitely time I learned
@@adventurefishinguk definitely m8! I i used too spin for them like yourself but I started fly fishing last year... Best thing I ever done. It opens up so many doors for you and gives you new places too fish as alot of places are fly fishing only especially here in wales
Hi George, just a quick one, what is your go to knot for tying on your leader? I’ve seen a few different versions online but trust your opinion, keep up the great vids 👍🏻
I don't know about that place being "abandoned" but I'll let it go because you are charming. Have a good day sir B-).
The area isn’t totally abandoned, people walk there. The fishery on the lake definitely was though! Thanks for watching 👍
The Canadian-style fishing experience. Come visit some day!
I’d absolutely love to! Do you know good spots?
@@adventurefishinguk I know one or two….hundred. At least! Just take a look at the satellite imagery of Ontario where I live and you can see just how many thousands of lakes there are, even within a few hours drive from Toronto alone. I could easily put you on one of them and you’d be the only human there with the entire lake and all its fish to yourself.
Great video maybe switch it up to pike fishing just a suggestion
Thanks mate! I’ve got some planned for the next few weeks 👍
Here in the US there are lots of these lakes, better to get permission to fish though ( usually can no problem) or chance getting shot👍
How would you go about finding out who to ask? I’d love to come fish in America one day!
Is there any pike or perch in that water? What a beautiful place unfortunately I couldn't go there I'm in wheelchair
As far as I’m aware there’s no pike or perch but I couldn’t say for sure! It would definitely be tricky getting down there in a wheelchair, I bet there’s some great places with better accessibility though!
👍👍🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣👍👍
Thanks for watching mate!
Nice video, is that Peak District?
So you and Alfie have actually designed your own lures?!
We have yes, although his role has been quite limited so far 😂
where can we get the lures you made
Adventurefishinguk.com 👍
I think I know that spot...
I think you probably do too!
How can I get my hands on your lures mate??
Adventurefishinguk.com thanks for the support!
n1 bud
Thanks mate!
you're looking good mate. What's the secret? I need to drop 6kgs
Thanks mate! Count calories, the my fitness pal app is great. Keep it below 2000, and exercise every day. Even if it’s just a half an hour walk 👍 the weight will fly off!
Decent sized lizard!
I thought so too!
@@adventurefishinguk (I think it deserved a little more screen time. It was a great capture)
You need to get a fly rod, I know your not the best fly angler but practice makes you better
It Was...but not now
What do you mean?
I don't wish to sound supersilious, but I only fish to eat.
It's the other way for me, I only fish to put them back!
water vole
Are you sure? Thanks for the ID!
I was thinking wood mouse?
Great video footage but please don't SHOUT "fish on!etc." in such idyllic surroundings. Reminds me of the vast majority of American anglers and you don't see much wildlife ( other than fish) in their footage. In answer to your question as to whether those small streams are worth fishing . yes/no : the fish will be generally smaller : they're best fished for before 10 a.m. or late evening using an upstream worm with hardly any weight (you could try one of those creature tiny jig lures ). Towards the end of season is best as the larger ones will go there to prepare for spawning . Fish casting precisely from a good distance away ( even casting from a lying down position to fish lying in the undercuts on your side of the river up or downstream ) . Try not to appear above their horizon/window. Don't wear clothes like white , bright yellow or even too dark. Drab colours are best eg. camoflague/grey. Fly fishing the little pockets of deeper water works - a 5 to 7 foot rod taking a 3 line but loaded with a 4 or 5. This as you see helps as you need not cast far. Useful flies I found are North-Country spiders, Ant/beetle/caterpillar imitations all on size 14 & smaller hooks. If there's been heavy rain fish the stream as soon as you can spot the stones on the bottom in the shallows and I wish you every success .More patterns that I found to work. Half-Stone, Eric's Beetle, Haul a Gwynt, Coch y bonddu, Ke-He, Grey duster, William's favourite but no doubt you'll find many more that work for you . However they will hopefully not be as fussy as trout in larger rivers. Enjoy your fishing and take care of that ankle !
