Can You Use Siding For A Porch Ceiling?

- I must be crazy, or love struck or something. We are going to use siding for a porch ceiling and finally after 5 years finish up this project that we started. For the porch ceiling we will be using T1-11 siding normally reserved for inexpensive tool sheds, but this time we are going to be mounting it above our heads and painting it a beautiful sky blue.
Follow along as we explore and learn to build a homestead in middle Tennessee. In 2016 we packed up our three kids and decided to leave suburban life in order to rediscover our love of outdoors, and learn the necessary skills to build a homestead from scratch. Learn with us as we begin to grow a garden, raise chickens, hunt and forage for food and live life to its fullest.

Thanks for this. I do a ton of renovating work, and never think to film it. You never know who you might help ! Also, kudos to your wife for being the "head" assistant when fastening the first panel.
Suggestion; Paint sprayer. Sure, more time prepping and masking off but still a time saver. One more thing since you asked, primer paint unless your using the paint with primer then game on!
Sadly we don’t have a need for a sprayer so we get to do things the more laborious way. And yes, it was a paint and primer in one.
You guys made it look simple great job!
Mosquito blue is a tradition here in New Orleans! Yup. Im doing this next week, so thanks, y'all!
Is that what the color is called? I knew it had something to do with bugs😂. Anyway, she was right. It has helped keep the bugs away. Hope your porch Turns out great!
@@HurricaneHomestead Thanks! I just looked the color up. 'Haint Blue'. Fun fact. Have a blessed holiday, chere. Hugs to you n yourn.
Thank you! I’m looking for an easy quick ceiling solution for our porch at the off grid camp. Hope you had a successful Turkey hunt!
Im in the middle of building a new house wiith Amish folk framing it up and no gerneral contractor so having to figure a lot of details out for myself.I have a 16x20 covered porch that I need to put a ceiling in and after a google image search I went to youtube and found this video,This will cost me more but am planning to go with this T111 for our projiect. Thanks for the content
Ours has held up very well, and we still love the look. Best of luck with your build!
Thank for the speaker idea 👍🏽
We love sitting on the front porch listening to some tunes!
Good job
Did y’all have issues with warping or anything else? How did it do this long being up??
It has held up great. No issues at all.
Thanks for sharing. What type of speakers did you use
Those are Episode Architectural series 6” all weather speakers. (In my non-homestead life I sell electronic systems including home theaters and house audio system.)
Hi there! Thank you for this video. One question...what did you use to fasten it to the joists?
We screwed it. I think it was just the standard screws that you can get from any hardware store.
@@HurricaneHomestead Thank you! Was it visible with the paint afterwards or did you spackle the screw dimples?
It was a little visible, but not noticeable with the texture of the ceiling.
What are the measurements of your porch?
It's an 8 ft porch about 50 ft long
Do you have a picture of the finished project?
Is there a particular reason for not painting it before putting it up?
That would have been a good idea… 🤔
Should have painted the panels before installing them
Paint the siding first.
Yessssss! Overhead painting suuuuuucks. imo.
