Follow along as we explore and learn to build a homestead in middle Tennessee.
In 2016 we packed up our three kids and decided to leave suburban life in order to rediscover our love of out doors, and learn the necessary skills to build a homestead from scratch.
Learn with us as we begin to grow a garden, raise chickens, hunt and forage for food and live life to its fullest.
We are so glad you are here, and hope that we can inspire you to live your dreams and become the very best version of yourself you can be.

It's Time to Get Our Pool Ready for Summer
We are opening our Coleman 52 inch above ground pool for the 5th season and getting our pool ready for summer. Getting the pool cleaned out from winter is a horrible experience, but the enjoyment that my family and I will receive from a small oasis from the summer heat will be well worth it. Bonus is that we get to set up some cool new toys we received from POOLHACKER!
We set up the fountain light from POOLHACKER to add a little more ambiance and fun to the pool. It was surprisingly easy to setup and included all the parts needed to fit our Coleman Above Ground Pool.

I Wish I Had This Before Setting Up My Above Ground Pool!

Poolhacker sent me some FREE stuff! We got a mysterious package in the mail today, and to my surprise, it was some gifts from my friends over at poolhacker.com The Poolhacker liner pad is surprisingly thick and durable and would have been a nice addition to our above ground pool setup. It does a great job of smoothing out the level ground from sharp rocks & debris that might damage your pool, o...

Building a DIY Brooder for 80 Baby Chicks
If you were building new, would you extend your roof line to build the lean to or do it like these people did. I live on a point where there can be a lot of wind.
🇨🇦 I'm from Commie Canada. Idiots here actually vote these policies in! 😡
You go dad! Yes this "we know better than you what's best for your kids" attitude really gets my goat!
Dad is the living definition of work smarter not harder
Flashing gun on hip while building shed at your farm with your dad? CRINGE
I just anchored mine this afternoon before Hurricane Helene is about to hit Georgia. A simple trip to the big box store hopefully did the trick.
Yall be safe. Let us know how it holds up.
You order your parts online
How many inches of 2x4s would you need
I have the 4 foot J-Bar SD on my Farmall Super A. Not sure if they still make the fast hitch models or not. It does OK in pasture grass and very small saplings but I would not try it on anything else due to the PTO setup with the direct drive. Maybe a 1/2- 3/4 inch max but have never hit anything close of that yet. Standard Duty is for very light work. Even the name brands SD only list 1 inch max, all at different price points.. HIgh end, name brand HD models list up to 4 inch saplings/trees, but you are looking at almost 6 grand, but IMHO, that is what a saw is for.. J-bar does have the HD models and Premier models with the 75 HP gear box with 8 gauge steel(like 3/16) and gear box mount is about 1/4 inch steel. I have a new Mahindra 4550 coming, 48 HP and looking at the J-Bar premier 6 footer Premier model simply due to price, thick steel housing and the 75 HP gearbox with thick mount, with slip clutch and a dealer is close. Made in America too, in Georgia or at least assembled there. Parts made in China or overseas= well you would be surprised on how this new global market has sourced stuff from all over the world. China, India, Vietnam, England, South Korea, Brazil, you name it for JD, Case New Holland, MF, CAT, Cummins, Navistar. Land Pride, Bush Hog, etc. It is the cheap labor and lack of EPA controls in other countries to produce stuff and we must keep the shareholders happy. that, is truth. However, engineering plays a key as well as durability testing, even from these so called, other countries.
Bro that’s actually crazy cool. Life is beautifully weird and wonderful.
I did my ‘03 GT today! I too had that feeling about that’s a BIG Drill! After double checking the instructions and triple checking the set up, a brief prayer, then i squeezed the trigger on my air ratchet. There was a lot of torque, it stalled a couple of times but the job got done. After cleaning some of the chips, I set up the tap. The air ratchet didn’t have enough starch, so I used my 3/8 impact gun. Got the threads cut, and cleaned the cylinder and set the insert w/ hi temp locktite. Tomorrow Is the big reveal…
Well… how’d it do?
@@HurricaneHomestead She’s running Great! 👍🏼 Like it never happened!
Thanks buddy....very helpful
very nice. Have several questions, how far apart are your 2x6 rafters and also how far apart are your lateral firring strips? Do you think it's possible to screw in the metal panels without having to stand on the roof at all or would you not be able to reach the far side of the panel you're screwing in from standing on ladder? Little bit nervous about standing on the roof myself. Thanks for any info!
so how do you seal it from rain and are you going to stain it at all?
My dog got at one of our chickens and must have bit down on its leg. She is limping around and dragging the leg behind her. Should we splint it? There’s no lacerations btw
Looks real good sir!
@Hurricane Homestead I made picnic table but when the other person stands up it falls back with another person😂.where did we go wrong?
Nice built one this weekend but with post on the back as well
Coleman should be paying you for this. You saved my sanity!
I’ve reached out a couple of times to see if they’d like to collaborate, but they never got back to me.
In the off-roading world, that's called the "thumbs-up steering" move, and it is absolutely mandatory! 👍👍
Nice video! It would have been nice, just to make it more complete, to specify what the buttons are for. Bubbles and arrows are pretty self explanatory, but not the others.
awesome, thank you!
You’re welcome!! Have fun!
You list is wrong says 2x6 instead of 2x4s
You’re right! The list is wrong, but you’re wrong about how it’s wrong. It’s just missing the 2x4 angled braces.
There is a filter cleaner that connects to the hose that you can buy and it cleans them better than just spraying.
Great video!!! Thank you…
I admit, I was thiking the wood was gonna split or something. You proved me wrong. This is so helpful. Thank you Sir! Great job on that!
I’m in. Middle tn as well . Southern middle
You should have turnerd off the power to the pump then opened a faucet outside instead draining water all over the floor where you be standing in water. What you did was a funeral waiting to happen. An old friend of my wife once thought it would be a good idea to change a burned out light bulb in her garage. The garage floor had a puddle of standing water right under the bulb. She used an aluminum ladder, placing the ladder in the water, she climbed up and as she touched the bulb, the electrical surge throught her body killed her. Her husband found her when he came home from work.
Whats that weigh approximately?
Packing Heat
Man this is a great idea! Im going to do this until next season so i can level the bottom better! New subscriber thank you
Did she recover?
wrong position for a chicken, she can't breath on her back well.
My advice... chage the system to old way is better. Kots is not too expensive.
Your daughter is pretty
How did the chicken do with the broken leg? Did she heal?
Thank you for the video, I’ve got to put a lean to on a building and will use your video in every step. You did a super job explaining everything.
I could not figure out how to get my pump to work. After watching your video I saw the tubes were hooked up wrong. Their directions really SUCK! I connected the tubes the way the picture looked and it was wrong. Thanks for your help. Was thinking the pump was broke.
They sell rafter hangers for the ledger board with a bottom that can be angled to the pitch of the roof, although more expensive than just regular hangers.
That was cool
Why won't you put a top on it, will that help?
Omg absolutely brilliant, you just made my day, I'm now going to attempt this 😂
Great idea! Would not of thought that would work. 👍👍
Music too loud and really off putting.
Did you use all PT?
Great video thank you I have one. I have what covers bottom of the tub looks like a blue speckled inflatable bottom that could be inflated yet ive never seen anybody inflate it on any videos I've watched. Could you help me out with this please? Thank you.
The bottom of ours does not inflate, but when you turn the bubbles on it fills a tube around the bottom with air to make the bubbles.
Nice.
What was the point of this video? You showed how yo cut nothing. So the easiest way to do a birds mouth is use your template? What a waste of time.
Build me that wood piece and I’ll buy it from you. I’ll pay the shipping too!
Came here for information, but I have to say it- you look JUST like Charlie Day! Normally don’t comment stuff like that, but had to say it! Thanks for the information! Very helpful!👍🏻🙏🏻
Personally I think Charlie looks like me. IMO
