Up until 1997 Celtic only had the numbers on the shorts. Back was just the design. Hoops also now suffer from big blank patches for numbers/names in Europe.
Same. I have the 22/23 real betis home shirt and the stripes abruptly end and start again where there’s supposed to be numbers but it’s just a blank white space.
As a collector of football shirts I was very glad to find your channel! I hope once you'll make a video about tight fitting shirts: Adidas Techfit (2010-13), Puma Actv Fit (2014-18), Puma Evoknit (2018-19) and Kappa Kombat-Skin (2016-18). For me these technologies are just another level comparing to anything else. Thanks a lot for your videos!
I'm not too knowledgeable about older kits, but I think the tight Arsenal puma kits from the 2010s are one of those. What is it about them that makes them on another level? Higher comfort?
I've recently discovered your channel and I absolutely love your content. I've never really thought about football kits in this way before and the details in which you go into it all absolutely fascinates me. And I absolutely agree with you and miss the old Adidas logo and wish they'd bring it back. I remember having a few jumpers back in the late nineties with a big massive one spread across the front. Loved them and wish they'd bring them back
I thought I had mistakenly pressed a button on my phone when I heard the drum sound but then I realized it was part of the video. Kudos to the editing team for making the videos entertaining. 😂👍
Not a fan of the template Nike have been using for the past couple of seasons and less so when it comes to their striped designs, I much prefer the stripes to go right up to the shoulder ..a great example of a good striped shirt this season would be Porto for me (New Balance I think) very clean and classic design. Ps I love the Milan track top Rob is wearing 😍🔥
loving this channel since I discovered it last week! One era and corner of kit design I've always been fascinated by is the dodgy away kits that were aplenty in the premier league during the 90's. Great era for shirts in general, but some dodgy away ones! Maybe an episode on that at some stage? Looking forward to what is coming next!
As a Juve fan, I really loved last year's home kit & wasn't so keen on this year's home kit. Seeing it more & more, it's growing on me & like the inspiration of the zebra stripes. For me I still prefer last season's home kit but Juve has had interesting kits in the last few seasons. This season's away kit I absolutely adore & think it's the best away kit we've had in years. Not everything sticks (ex. 21/22 third was awful) but I respect trying something different 🤍🖤
Hi both, loved the video. My idea for the Barcelona kit would be an old school design with a lace collars, the stripes with the years ithe Nou Camp was built and demolished in the material with the blue sleeve effect. My favourite Juventus shirt was the one worn by Alessandro del piero in the 1996-97 season.
@@TheKitBreakdown good lads! Being a graphic designer of 20 odd years I find your videos fascinating from a creative standpoint! …and as a villa fan it would be great to hear why you guys think that villa seem to never get a decent kit 😂 (notwithstanding the Luke kits, as they were straight up fire!)
Guys, love the channel. Curious to know the process of creating a new kit. From day 1 of design, is it 1 person or a team or designers? Who has the final sign off? How much do the club get involved? time lines (are kits designed a year in advance?). Thanks
Would love to see you review more striped shirts? I found it odd that Craig liked this Juve kit when he disliked the Bournemouth kit from last season. I assume Nike didn't use full blue sleeves for this kit because then it would be almost identical to the 2016-17 shirt
Personally, I’m a fan of wider stripes and single color back panels. I think the wider stripes give the other elements on the shirt more breathing room and the single color back panel helps a great deal with name and number legibility.
Please do a video on authentic vs fan edition shirts! I wear football tops almost daily, rotating through 10/15 of them, and whilst the authentic shirts have better fabrics and technology, I feel they're designed to be worn for one match, so if a fan is to buy one to wear often, the value isn't there because it might not last, so for a fan is it worth spending almost double in some cases for the authentic? Cheers guys, keep up the great work it's fascinating
I can tell you mate, the authentics hold up to repeated wear better than some of my stadium ones. I've got some PSG authentics in far better shape than my Nike stadium Roma shirts! Worn similar amounts too!
Very interesting content like to hear about the processes and thoughts behind the shirt desgins, just want to say even though the replica shirts seem to be lower quality than the "authentics/player" shirts, i personally would always buy the the replicas because I hate the heat transfer plastic badges, you cant beat a quality embroided badge!
I have good esign skills and am great with graphics. I'm not qualified in this field but wondering how I would start developing te skills and experience to do this is a poprer job. How would we get into an industry like this? It's not something we get to hear about very often. Would make a great video
Are you going to have a look at AC Milan ? The new kits are ...controversial. As a fan, I'm a bit confused and not entirely convinced. Interested in your opinion on them. Awesome channel, newly subscribed !
Adidas for Newcastle 95-97 (Asprilla era) managed to use white numbers on the back without leaving a blank space. I think they're better than the red they have now. The follow up shirt 97-99 had a disgusting giant empty shield on the back. Please please Craig get a contract to design the new Toon adidas kit. and redesign the logo while you're at it. The lion's face is way too small to be seen.. we need a new 21st century take.
I’m kind of ok with this FCB kit being kind of conservative since they went for the White t shirt for the second. I Guess that was enough controversy for the season.
Don’t worry Craig us Culés don’t like the red sleeves either nor the white lettering we look like Levente or Eibar. I really hope the Puma change happens, I am so sick of Nike when it comes to Barça, that 21/22 home kit was atrocious, we looked like clowns.
I've discovered this channel few weeks ago, and usually I kind of agree with 99% of your kit ratings, but this time I completly dissagree since I found this Juve kit complete garbage 😊
I don't know what's going on with the juventus kits been horrible last few years and haven't been really nice since the kappa kits in the 90s .modern shirts are horrible mostly...horrible and ridiculously over priced one season crap
I hate the Juventus one, also hated quite some of the past Barça kits. Just respect the identity of a club and stop experementing with home kits. That’s the identity of a club. Use third kits for weird experiments, no one will be bothered
It’s a challenging subject as if it was the same each season, then other would complain. Bottom line is no matter what you design, you’ll never please everyone!
@@craigbuglass7072well with stripes it’s not too bad. Different amount of stripes, vary with thickness, maybe even use a half/half kit. But checkers or hoops are definitely not the way to go. Even the furry Juventus shirt this season at least respects the identity of the club
I know it’s problematic for making the names/numbers legible, but I prefer striped shirts when there isn’t a massive blank space on the back
Up until 1997 Celtic only had the numbers on the shorts. Back was just the design.

The blue sleeves for the Barca shirt was a game changer

We love that away kit!
I personally think that this new Juventus home kit will be a future classic and one that football shirt collectors will want in their collection.
The away kit is insanely nice! As a fan I really really love it!

Have to say my favourite stripe style is the pin-stripe that was used a lot in the 80s
I’d love you guys to look at this seasons villa kits, the fabric is horrendous! Within 2 minutes it looks like the shirt is SOAKING
Rob will be getting onto that very soon, for sure!

Nice topic guys.
Not keen on the new celtic one which has gone abit mad this season but hoops and stripes are hard to do on kits

That’s a really good point!
I actually think Juventus' prematch shirt looks better than the Home 😅
Unpopular opinion: Crystal Palace have done better kits with Red and Blue stripes than Barca have since 2015.
Surely there's more that can be done with stripes than plain coloured kits...
Would love your take on Real Sociedad's 2023/2024 Home Jersey. I think Macron hit this one out of the park!
Love the Juve one, Barca is a bit meh. Quite like what United have done with their striped away kit this year

As long as we have different opinions, we’ll keep cracking on… it’s defo marmite!
Adidas kit is a pearler. I like it when teams change it up and get funky each year. It’s better than the same shit every single year like spurs
So Nike 🗑️ has an excuse to make garbage for my club every season. Brilliant
I personally think the yellow and the sponsor on the Juve one destroys the kit. I think it's awful.
