How to Paint Realistic Skies and Sunlight

- I share my process on how I add light and glow to this beautiful sunrise sky I'm working on in my latest oil painting. The techniques and methods could be applied to acrylics as well. I walk you through the steps I took from start to finish and explain how I painted and approached each area of the sky.

I always wondered how to blend Yellow/oranges into blues without making green. Thank you so much for teaching this technique! Love all of your videos!
Apparently using a barrier colour prevent's it from turning green.
@@europeanroyalty4778 kinda like nature... you won't see a yellow sky blending directly into a blue sky in nature.
It was something I looked into also, and I found this video where lady explains it well, and when I looked closely to my reference photo I actually saw what she was talking about.
In between the blue and yellow, there's usually hint of violet.

the concept of separating the skies into sections, just clicked. I am tackling a painting, now, with a bright sun and was really stressing over the blending. thanks for the insight on blending and stretching the layers out.

First off, GORGEOUS painting, Chuck!!! I had to laugh, when you talked about blending the oranges and yellows into the blues and getting them to not turn green. That is quite an annoying thing to happen🤣🤣🤣 It can be really tricky when using the Phthalo colours, too.
After all the years I've been watching you paint, you'd think I'd be accustomed to you perfecting your work and technique, but I'm always completely astounded by each new one you present! You make it quite difficult to choose a favourite😉

This is the best channel I have found on UA-cam last year. Love you work! I want to point out, I really miss your videos with just music so they’re easier to follow and I can watch on repeat. Videos with explanations are kinda hard to watch on repeat, don’t wanna hear the same things 10 times, but just the music in background makes it easier to follow and a very peaceful experience. Anyway, Best wishes! You truly are amazing!

I have every year since I was 20 yrs old. Huge supporter of the program I used to restore wetlands for the usfws using stamp dollars. Im not super convinced on the popularity of it these days though. It seems to be losing steam which is sad

hey chuck I have an idea for a painting.. My dad and I are gold prospectors on the weekend and thought it would be awesome to see a painting like this but with miners in the water and sluice boxes and gold pans. and maybe a big horn sheep on the hill side. You're crazy good! I wish i could paint like this so i think ill become a patrion and learn from you! Thanks for sharing these with us!

Chuck I love your sky. How would you do it in acrylics? I don’t think I could ever get the smoothness and the brightness in acrylics as you have in oils.
Yeah, its different with acrylics. But the way that I've found to work the best, is to do it really quickly and then wait until it is dry before touching it up. I have a channel that I post tutorials on. @chriskempter
