  • Learning drivers welcome! Join patient and friendly driving instructor Micah as he teaches you the different hand movements for making a right turn. In this second video from our multi-part series about turning, Micah will walk you through the Hand-Over-Hand and Push-Pull methods for making right turns smoothly. Stay tuned for future turn-related videos where we'll cover speed control, lane positioning, the spin-back method, and so much more!

    A note from instructor Micah:
"We hoped you learned a lot today and I want to reiterate the importance of being patient and taking your time learning to turn. After all, turning is one of the most challenging skills for new drivers and not everyone learns it in a single lesson (or two or three). If you can convince your parents, then get out into an empty parking lot and really practice (with your signed permit, of course) turn after turn after turn… after turn. I promise you, it will eventually become 2nd nature and you won’t even think about all of these steps we discussed today, they will simply become part of who you are as a driver."

1:11 as a new driver, I never learned about “pre-turning” during a right turn at an intersection.

Hello! Pre-turning the wheel slightly, just about a quarter turn, helps you make a smoother and more controlled right turn, allowing you to finish on the right side of the road without oversteering. This small adjustment is also helpful when you need to 'inch out' for a better view of traffic, as it lets you do so safely without moving into the traffic lane.

@@DriversEdDirect can you make another video where you go more in-depth about this? Perhaps showing how doing versus not doing pre-turns looks like?

Excellent instructions. I just wish that I could hear the instructors. They speak very softly.
