- Today we're discussing Bandai Tamashii Nations S.H. Monsterarts practices of throwing in Kong accessories that should have come with the original release, into $100-$200 less desirable other figures...and how this practice differs from how S.H. Figuarts does it. I'm pretty frustrated with this type of solicitation but I want to get my thoughts into words. What are your thoughts? Is this okay?? I am not so sure. 👀

shma can definitely improve on this. seriously i'd much rather just buy a kong that came with the beast glove, yet shma makes use buy crappy toys just to get 1 accessory that we actually want
Also notice how they put the whole Figure for Kong in the pictures instead of just the glove or tooth. It might trick people who don't usually collect into thinking that they come with multiple figures (and for 240$ who can blame them)

I got a 2021 bootleg Kong fig and cut off one of his teeth and replaced it with silver clay and made a clay beast glove
Remember when they did excessory packs? They couldve made a $40 bundle with the Beast Glove, Sliver Tooth Head (+a roaring one) and a blast piece for Shimo and Godzilla.
Next thing we know we will be going full marvel legends and having complete figures that are “build a figs” and that is most definitely not something we need for figures that can cost upwards of $100-$200. You made a great point in your video, if they must pull something like this on us, make it something like the figuarts, something that would be nice, but is not necessary like the B.E.A.S.T glove. My biggest fear is that if this strategy does play in Bandai’s favor and these figures fly off the shelves, that other companies will fall in line. Last thing we need is companies like Hiya and Super7 to include another character’s defining feature in another character’s packaging. (Sorry for commenting a whole paragraph)
This is definitely one of my biggest gripes. It reminded me of the SH Figuarts DB Super: Super Hero where every figure was premium Bandai only while using additional accessories to raise up the prices of figures. Although at least they were new accessories, in here we just get a previous accessory updated behind a 230 dollar figure.
Paying $230+ for Kong’s silver tooth feels more anti-consumer than the beast glove considering Kong had the silver tooth for the majority of the film. Was really hoping they release another SDCC Kong exclusive. As always, great video 🔥
One of the bigger issues I have with these recent releases that I hear almost no one talk about is the fact that one of the growling head for Kong was technically an exclusive accessory to the SDCC exclusive version, but now it really isn’t
I guess they can legally sell it again because it’s for a figure that’s only available to buy online, which is Shimo.
The SHF Kaiju No.8 has the same thing as Luffy where the base figure already comes with a bunch of accessories and you can get some extra bonus parts if you end up buying the other figures in the line. SH Monsterarts used to do this in a meaningful way as well in the early few years.
Their Fire Rodan came with an alternate battle damage head for Mechagodzilla ll and a spiral heat ray for Godzilla. Little Godzilla came with large crystals that could be used for Spacegodzilla. And it made sense. They were smaller figures that included accessories that they directly interacted or contributed to to make the purchase more valuable. Now you're spending nearly 100 dollars for a figure that barely covers the bare minimum for parts and at best locks the pieces you would want behind 100+ dollar repaints or separate releases. They constantly go back on their words and its honestly unfair/.
Another thing to note about the One piece bonuses: All of them are to replicate scenes with the character you bought. Law comes with a very specific one scene only luffy face that only works if you have the Law with the face that goes with it, the super grinning face that comes with Nami goes with her super pissed off face. All of the extra faces that Luffy gets only work IF you have the character you purchased to go with then so them being a bonus for them makes sense.......Kong does not require Skar king or Shimo for either of his accesories and they are his main look from the film that they market....just scummy.

Taking your one piece figures example. A good analogy would be if the straw hat of Luffy came with Nami, that would be messed up.
agreed AND! to add on to the insanity, when you flashed Kong 2024, you should have mentioned how it was sold out! so the folks who wanted the Beast Glove Kong can't go back and buy the original figure to get it!

What's funny is that they're probably going to release a complete kong with the glove and alt head in like a year or so
I don't know if anyone else has pointed this out, but if they were going to have these accessories come with Skar King and Shimo, they picked the wrong one each. Skar King interacts with the tooth, and Kong only gets the BEAST Glove because of Shimo (also for the price point of Shimo, you should get the larger accessory)

Now I’m really curious to see how Hiya Toys’ versions of Skar King and Kong with the mech arm will turn out. Considering how much better their Shimo looks compared to the SHF one, I think they’ll turn out great. Likely more accurate, too. Hiya Toys’ Shimo’s only real inaccuracy is her size, but that shouldn’t be a problem with Skar King and Kong. As long as Kong isn’t chunky like his Skull Island figure, that is!
That’s something I thought about too, like, how do they do a great job of adding bonus pieces with shfa one piece but fumble this bad with godzilla. ATP it could just be something with the team that approves the decisions made with tamashii nations and their respective franchises. Each bonus face piece that comes with any of the one piece characters actually makes sense with the character that it comes with. Law originally came with Luffy’s funny face from the kaido fight, hybrid kaido came with a dead Luffy face, Kidd comes with a “taking a super painful blow” face, hell, they even gave gear 5 Luffy an additional face for base Luffy for when he was transforming post-death. It’s like they put as much care and thought into the one piece figures as the animators for the anime would but they couldn’t do the same for godzilla which really sucks because I really like both franchises.
Good video. Yea, you made some great points about the One Piece stuff compared to the Kaiju stuff. I really do agree. Personally, I think the SH Shimo figure is bad, I think Skar King is ok, but yea I can ofc respect that you like the Shimo. Overall, for Shimo, Skar King, and Kong, I’ll probably stick with Hiya and/or Playmates. Both due to price and accuracy, and even accessories.

Yeah i planned on getting all the shma gxk figures but now i think of it i might pass. I want shimo bc the size but its just tooo expensive and for me and to have a extra head to keep without a kong figure smh. But i pretty hiya will make a kong beast glove all together without having to buy other figures. This type of situation reminds me of those Five nights at Freddy's figures like if u want a spring trap figure u have to buy like 6 figures just to complete it
But it sucks for me that I don't have the normal kong. For me I like to have a normal version then get the like extra things. For example I got evolved but I want the re evolved bc I want normal/original version

Bro. SHMA Shimo is literally a half an inch taller in all fours and an inch longer than Hiya. It's not worth it for the price, especially on how inbred she looks with her long neck and Playmates head.
I love the accessory exclusivity for figures as a person who collects nearly all SHMA. But I do understand it is an issue
I can see the appeal of getting something a little extra with another figure, but yeah I just think this is too far

Well if you are the type of person who would buy shimo for a tooth, you deserve to pay the stupid tax.
I would argue that Kong should have come with the beast glove, and Skar King should have come with the axe, since in the movie Skar King took the axe from Kong. Also Kong should just have all three head expressions anyway, they're charging enough for him, just give it to us! I'm hoping Hiya delivers us a beast glove Kong. I'm already all in on their Monsterverse and Heisei line.
I would be less frustrated with that, that's a pretty decent idea. And same, waiting for Hiya to drop the reveal, if they do of course.
Honestly, they should have put all the extra stuff with just Kong, Shimo needs stands just to stand, Skar is decent, but this is just a stupid idea for the price.

At that price point making a glorified build a figure just isn't viable it works on 10-40$ figures but any further and people are less likely to want to soend the extra money to compete one figure.
Im sure that the are probably a handful of people who are for some reason willing to buy the figures to complete kong but it definitely isn't enough people to make this anticonsumer move worth it.
Im not gonna get the gxk shma Kong because I'm going to wait for the hiya version and shma one is just a repaint it's also over priced and when I do get the hiya king Kong im going to make the tooth silver maby probably

I don't find it being something bad... in fact I love not having to repeat kong just for an arm. Thanks to bandai I only have to get a new character to have the new kong. I'm getting two figures for the price of one. I was really excited to get glove kong with my skar king and dont have to double dip. When it comes to faces I don't think them as must have but as new accessories that I may not have.

To having to buy an extra kong just for arm was more skumy, now Im getting the arm with a figure I dont have and that I was going to get, win win... In fact I hated the fact of missing the arm, but wasn't going to pay another kong for just one arm

It is pretty scummy to do that, but they might be doing this because of how a lot of other American figure lines do. Specifically the Marvel lines where you can collect a whole series and get a big figure from it. Maybe they think that since that was big here they can do the same with their American audience. Idk
It's possible, probably also mixed with knowing collectors wuold be put off by the price of these figures.
@@CepiTheNomad The Shimo I can "kinda" get because it's just a face. However, the beast glove is just atrocious. Literally Kong's most notable feature not in a standard release. It's like maybe a 15-25 dollar accessory so I'm not sure why they didn't just include it with Kong.

I think it’s insane that hiya toys shimo is $60 with incredible paint amazing articulation I mean hiya toys Shimo has finger articulation that is one of the rarest things ever to have on a figure let alone a monster figure. Meanwhile, SH monster arts can’t even get the color of the toenails right when we get a massive close-up of the feet and a shrunken stomach I believe that they got a picture of Shimo for their modeling that was in a jumping position, but still there’s no way that they could’ve assumed that the stomach was going to be that shrunken in and one last thing the fact that I could buy four hiya toys Shimo for the price of one SH Shimo is genuinely insane

And BBTS can be good, I usually get SHMA from them but sometimes they can’t be specific on when some figures are coming (which is understandable because they’re a domestic distributor and hiya is international). I honestly like kowkis which is why I reached out to them for that discount code. You can get the hiya figures sooner

Umm no. Figuarts is just as scummy. It may not look it since you’re only using One Piece figuarts. But in other lines like Dragon Ball, Kamen Rider and Ultraman they lock important accessories behind other releases. For Rider its various weapons they primarily use locked behind other characters and Ultraman its the same but also beam attacks they always use.

Can you imagine buying a Pistol but it doesn't have a mag and receiver? The only way you can get it is buy the "Welcome Addition Bonuses" of buying more expensive guns such as a Submachinegun for the Pistol's receiver and a full blown Assault Rifle for the Pistol's magazine.
