True words Chris. And longer/ skinnier boards are getting more popular these days. I did not want to buy another board and will keep it to my 95L 5.1' inflatable. But..... I traded my obsolete 5.5' with a massive 7.5' one from someone who wanted to go smaller, to help friends and family into this fantastic sport. And guess what, I tried the board and because it has huge inertia, I could control my new 1200 Ypra-S front wing better and reached a peak of 35kmu for the first time!
Great job Chris! As soon as you start adding new moves to the bag-o-tricks, like behind-the back tacks, you start to gain added balance and agility so that you can keep progressing with even more challenging moves and build up a serious repertoire. It’ll get to the point where you’ll need to make a list of all the moves so you don’t forget! I think it’s very rewarding and fun😊
@@targadave yes need to explore some more moves it really opens up the skatepark of waves when you can turn anywhere you want. Thanks so much for watching
Really sensibile advice Chris. I started out on the cheapest stuff I could find at the time - landed a deal off a mate selling some Naish foils and board - bought wings separately. Upgraded the board and added a few more wings. That’s kept me busy for the last couple of seasons, now time to upgrade the foil. It’s a fantastic and addictive sport.
Fabulous Chris. I have zero natural balance so will need a board the size of pier! I picked up an inflatable aSUP just to get more comfy in the water. And I have an add-on centre fin to install at some point so I can try Wing Sup on my own time. It's going to be a long journey to learn wing foil and unfortunately this year a medical issue took me out entirely. This issue has been sorted so now I'm making a plan for for 2025 (which involves some weight loss this winter!)
i am trying to shed a bit of weight it really helps i lost 10 kg or 24 lbs over the last 9 months another bit would be nice it all helps with mobility and longevity in sports , i wish you a fast recovery and good winds
defo i have got on foil a few times with the big board that was before i could wing tho 5 years ago im going to hit it this autumn for sure the maybe a board if i can get one cheep enough , thanks so much for watching up cresswell this weekend if there is wind or a swell . Keep ripping fella
I bought the Gong HiPE First for ~1000 euro's, 40l iters above my weight, learned the basics and sold it -a bit too soon- after 25 sessions in two month, for ~700 euro's to a mate. Best money spent ever!
sounds like you went about it the right way without wasting money, a great sport but expensive if you go down the wrong rabbit hole . I just waveride so buy cheaper wings as the waves tend to lead to ripped wings . have a great week and good winds
As there is more and more winger, i find it hard to sell on the used market now, when i started i could sell the same price i brought my stuff, the last time i sold something it took me one year to resell it à 25% percent the price i paid. Now i tried to put the exchange gear option on my add but still , i was thinking about buying new gear and try to get a credit with my old gear on the shop but since i dont have enough cash to buy brand new gear…
@@youdigsurf yes can be hard to sell i just let them go cheep 50 to 60 5 less if in good condition just to get some funds to go towards new kit or i just keep to let people borrow or use to get started lucky gong is not to bad priced and i usually just buy when there on sale
starting with that big stuff was about to get me away from wingfoiling..... awful you have to grade the recommendation. someone with an experience on kitefoiling ,a good windsurfer. i started on a 75L board with 69 kg, with a 1280 front foil.
yes your absolutely right, in the video text I recommend to ask a local rider or shop if you can , they will assess your experience and weight be able to give specific sizes for foils and boards depending on brand and personal ability, as you know a 1500cm2 aspect 5 foil is very different from a 1500cm2 foil aspect of 10 . just started a friend on wing 1400cm2 aspect 7 and he is 95kg as he is a good kitesurfer so as you say great to recommend a size for the individual person according to there size .My advice is just a very rough generic guide for people . thanks so much for watching and commenting
I've been windsurfing and kiting since forever but the big board really helped me focus on the foil and the wing. Got on foil from the first session and downsized after about 25 sessions. I really believe it saved me a lot of pain, frustration and money and accelerated my progression. Of course YMMV...
@@michielfermie6222 Yes I have seen some people start on smaller boards no problem but most i have seen need a bigger set up i know did and I SUP windsurf and kite surfed for decades, thanks for the comment,😀 good winds
gong galaxy has a great deal section with second hand stuff and deals on packages, also worth trying facebook marketplace but be careful also have a look in shops in your country for second hand sections . in uk boardworx , loco ,and kitesurf centre, deals and second hand ex demo kit, and king of watersports ships word wide to name a few hope that helps
