I feel that there is always things to learn and improve on, and as a visual learner, using cameras and looking at how i'm riding gives me clues where im going wrong and what to work on next. Im really wanting to improve on my pumping to start to connect more waves, and one day head toward the downwind side of the sport . Easy board repair ,thought i'd do a quick video as there is no wind here in the uk .I hope it may help someone out who has never attempted a diy repair its so quick easy with this solarez , use in non structural areas on small dings , if there has been water inside the board, it needs to dry first, this can take some time in a warm place . ua-cam.com/channels/kwdvytGv2k3au7Y6bmDGjw.html

Great footage. What location or spot is it? Thanks and happy new year
@patrickfrank4356 we are in the north east UK 🇬🇧 water is 6°c air around freezing or just above this time of year 6mm wettys this spot is seaburn /roker. Great local beach crew 👌 Thanks for watching have a great new year 😀
Hi, love the video's and content. You are a pretty "good" rider (compared to me) and I was wondering why you ride relatively big front foils? I myself am a half decent rider on mostly flat water, 95kg and my biggest foil currently is the Veloce V2 L 1100. To me, bigger foils tend get sluggish very quickly. Just curious why you choose the foils you choose.
@michielfermie6222 I ride big foils just to get more lift and glide and be able to ride slower to mach the speed of the swell ,with the wave riding and freefly in mind, if I was mostly on flat water I would just ride the ypra and drop sizes for speed and maneuverability. But for me, as it is my flat water days are training days for a wave day, so big foils that I can use on small 2 ft waves are suited to what my main goal is. My next foil will be a 122 cm wide aspect 13 downwind foil, I think I will be able to use it in tiny wind chop . I'm very strong on my legs I do not find them hard to turn or any draw backs . Thanks so much for watching and commenting Have a great new year
@michielfermie6222 just to add the veloce v3 feels fast I may get a small veloce v3 in large think it's 950cm2 as my smallest wing
@@christomo Ah, that makes total sense! Tnx for the reply and keep those vids coming. :-)
@michielfermie6222 😎 will do
@michielfermie6222 However, I went out on the curve h xl 1300cm2 today and tried for the first time the fluid 42 stab, and it was so slow and dragging, I feel that all my v2 foils work so much better with the v2 freestyle stab for me . The new v3 veloce is so much more lively 😍 just for info
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!! Nice soundtrack, sounds like Khruangbin.
@jeromesurffoil7033 I'm glad you liked it. Have a great holidays Thanks for liking and commenting 😀

Hi Chris I enjoy your videos they are very helpful👍 You say the veloce v3 xl I quite close to the curve H XL. I am about 75kg dry and ride the curve H L and use for light wind from 10 knots. Do you think I could replace the curve H L with the veloce v3 xl for light wind. Thanks Kasper and merry Christmas 🎄
@kasperlundegaard yes I would guess, so I'm flying at 14kn with 5.5 neutra and v3 veloce h . I'm 94kg dry it takes more effort and skill to get up, but ones up, glide is more and pumping easy, so stating up is easier than curve h Hope that helps some . Have a great holidays
Hey Chris! Thanks for all your videos! I am still on my Gong v1 beginner kit (I’m 90-93 kg), foiling but still working on consistency and gybes…. Ever since the v3 kits were announced, I had thought they looked really good and worth investing in. Now that I am ready to upgrade and fully invest in my foil system, I have wondered if maybe I should consider any of the other options. Still, Gong is such massive value though. Can you speak to the overall quality and performance vs the others you’ve tried? I know I wouldn’t know the difference at my current level, but that changes quickly. Also, I am planning on the Curve 3xl for my lightwind foil (10 -13kts is avg at my beach). Thoughts? Looks like you are happy with the Veloce xl for better conditions, I may do the same. Cheers mate! Peace and love from Canada.
@lazer2997 thanks man for kind words The gong systems are very good the v3 is really good I think axis are amazing foils and exceptionally good quality but far to pricey for me the carvon mast is just not in my budget so I have stayed with gong and don't feel I'm missing much I cam try 2 front wings for the price of 1 axis . I currently use xxl curve v2 for light and veloce xl v3 for everything else as you know . So I think the xxxl curve will work well for you . Gong seems to have grown as a brand and have quality products as good as other brands IMHO I do buy other gear as well if the quality and price point are there . If you can try first it would be good 👍 hope that helps some it's always hard to commit as it's expensive to switch systems however we will all be on something quite different in 5 years from now imo Thanks again chris 👍
@@lazer2997 update I'd be seriously looking at the new fg range
nice! is the Veloce your highest AR foil? the front profile reminds me of the v1 Armie HAs. when you compare size to size with the Curve H... is that wingspan or surface area?
@OCEANBOUND1 Yes, the veloce v3 is the highest aspect at 10.1 it is 1080 mm wide for 1150cm2 The curve h is 8.5 aspect for 1050 mm wide and 1300cn2 but is a little thicker more volume, so it's up on foil in 12kn easy The gong downwind foils veloce v3 hdw wings are aspect 13. If I remember right, it's 1220 mm across, and 13 aspects for 1200cm2 are the biggest one Thanks for watching my man
Cool one, are you gonna try the fluid v3 ? I wonder if it`s more playfull !
@youdigsurf waves here don't justify the fluid and the veloce is best suited to our conditions I'm considering a bigger one or a hdw for downwind but not sure what to go for or a v2 curve 4xl
@@christomo well im using the fone sk8 that is supposed to be a wave foil on swell and it still pretty good you know there other thing to consider like playfulness , manoeuvrability even on bump ! 😉
@youdigsurf yes I like the sk8 as well great foil so many options out there I think the sk8 or the new fireballs would be my choice if money was not a factor
How would you feel about the biggest Veloce V3 as a light wind option?
@grantmacdonald4838 yes that should work well if the user has good technical knowledge on pumping up on foil with a wing . The Curve h would be much easier tho
Good watch. Like the progress to catching waves using the upwind handle passes, knew they would come in use.
@jonathanalstead thanks man I just love the way that move just flows while riding 👌 . Thanks for watching have an awesome weekend
Can you foil here on all tides ?
@michaelhampshire1634 paddies is only good 2 hours each side of high tide . If you travel round to foilers, bay/ chem works its good on a mid tide as well. Only a very low tide does not work . Thanks so.much for watching 👀
@@christomo Thanks for the info, videos are great. Ill have a drive up this weekend

@@christomo Sheffield, surfed the north east coast for years but only just started foiling this year. Kev at Beadnell got me heading in the right direction, just need more time on the water now. Hopefully making the move up that way shortly.

Alright, Chris. Great video mate 👍 The music works really well and all the shots are great 👍 On a side note. As I'm watching this video it has over 70 thumbs up, which are almost 10% of your views. That is a MASSIVELY high percentage of thumbs ups vs views. So why is this video not ranking? Seriously, that 10% positive response is exactly what UA-cam say you should be striving to get, in order to prove the video is popular. I'm lucky to get 2 or 3%. You mentioned in the video that you'd had 4 weeks off and that UA-cam would probably be a c..t about it. Well, you never said c..t but that's how it translated to me 😆 I have been meaning to do a video about that exact same thing, the fact that UA-cam penalise you when you take any kind of a break. I have experienced this on three channels and one of them, my gaming channel, is hyper focused on one thing and it also suffered when I took three weeks to catch back up on my main channel. Seriously, for me with Warzone Mobile on my gaming channel and you with your windsurfing, both of which are hyper focused. There's no way that anyone into those things would suddenly lose interest just because you had a break, as the content is still going to be what the viewers expect. I really need to have a rant about this on my vlogging channel. I appreciate that you aren't necessarily trying to make money out of UA-cam, like I am trying. However, that has f..k all to do with wanting to see your time and energy in producing your videos, rewarded with some growth that reflects what YOU have put into it. Anyway, I hope to do some videos on my vlogging channel before Christmas, I'm just tying to revive my main channel after UA-cam pushed me further down the food chain when I took a break to get my gaming channel monetised (which was a total waste of time 😆). Take care buddy and catch up soon. Cheers, Dave.
@DavidHarryUncut thanks for watching, mate. I appreciate the ongoing support advice and friendship 👍 . Yes, UA-cam shafted me, but I struggle to find time some months to even get out in the winds , working as a chef /barman. Xmas is a busy time . He is a f ING rant gopro the cun@ts selling gopro13 almost as cheep in sale as to subscribers with a free subscription so 100 quid off is useless really . It's only any good if you're smashing cameras like me, but again, I'm not spending 100 quid to replace gopro 11, so I will go for another brand in the new year. god knows what, tho. Still loving your chanel main and uncut . Do you have and vid from your music days ? Any way speed soon have a good week

Hey Chris. Hope you are doing well. Have not seen any videos in a while so I hope everything is ok!!! What do you think about the V3 set up since you have been using it a while? I have a lit bit of a dilema: seems like if I am going to stay with Gong i will have to update everything. there are not parts anymore to mix V2 with V3. very limited selection on the V2. I got to use an Armstrong MA1475 on a downwind run and it was awesome. I have the Armstrong A+ setup already (picked up a used one at a good price). But, if i am going to stay with Armstrong I think my next purchase would be the Performance (high modulas) mast which is about $1500 just for the mast or if I want to go to new foils/masts with Gong the complete V3 setup would run about $1600.
@stephens.9748 I'm loving it. the carbon mast is stiff, and the veloce v3 is easy as the curve h for me is not quite as good on low end but not far off overall a very good upgrade I will change everything to v3 as I can afford it . Gong has matured very well the new fuse saves all the problems the v2 had with screws . Hard decisions try if you can . I did a video this week.in it I'm riding the v3 so much more glide . I will do a v3 review update next few weeks if I get some wind on my days off .thanks for watching 👀 😀

@dotnout thanks so much. I really love foiling and really enjoy editing videos, so win-win . Have a great week 😀
I am not a good pumper myself but I have another thing to try. I used to put my weight into pushing the nose down, but learning from others, I now put my weight in pushing on the mast, indeed on the downward part of the pump. It is like squatting on the board.
@watercrazylion thanks for the tip I have a try 😀 good winds my friend
Awesome as usual cheers Tomo!
@GrahamSnowdon thanks.so much for watching and commenting. Good winds Graham
Good job for prone foiling you are already as good as me 😂 what setup were you using ? Axis armstrong ? Pumping is harder than we think sometime i dont want to think about it 😅 as for free fly i usualy get outrun by the wave with my 1400 not the other way around, maybe your foil is too quick and mine too slow 😊
@youdigsurf the prone foil part is some other guys, but they're getting very good. Part of my organisation is starting to write down foils position and using the best foil for the speed of wave. I can go faster than wave easy on most foils . This time, I outran the wave and needed to go along it to stay in the power part instead of just running into the flat . It's all good learning 👌 Thanks for watching,
@@christomo If the wave permit it going left and right but i've seen you doing it so it will be ok. Foil position dont tell me about it 😅
Awsome 👍

Another great video, thanks Chris. You have some really nice unbroken swell lines coming in there to ride. Great drone work too... I appreciate all the work you put into these, and I must try that technique of really pushing downthe nose on the pump cycle. Good winds 🏄
@glimpseireland2005 Yes, it was the key for me to generate more speed. I now feel like I'm starting to understand projecting forward, swinging arm helps but time on the water is key good luck

Hey Chris. Just wanted to thank you again. I went with the curve H because of you. (XXLH). I was out yesterday in 10-14 MPH using my 7'4 Starboard Ace DW board and an 8M North wing. When I go to the spot guys were trying to get in. They were all on regular boards and the biggest wing I saw may have been a 7. I have ridden the Curve H (1600 sq) up to 30 knots but the low end was absolutely incredible. I was going to use my Fluid XXLT but I actually forgot it. I ordered last week the Curve H XLH and a spare Pro Fluid Stab (45) which is my go to stab. Thanks again for the "Great" recommendation. I am about 195 pounds (5'7") so we are similar in weight. On a side note do you kite anymore? I actually have not been winging for a few months; since I got back into kiting again. Best SS
@stephens.9748 Yes, still kite when it's on shore and strong winds, but they are rarer conditions around here. I'm glad you like the foils. The stall speed is so low on them a session saver . I do like mine with a freestyle stab it livens them up, so if you can try it . Have a great week, mate
pumping... I thought I was good, and then I started paddling with the dw board and realized how deficient I was. still learning. I even took like 2 months and frustratingly find myself way behind from what I was at when I left it. so it just takes time, using your footage will help break it down in your head. it's a journey, so finding all your mistakes is step one, correcting can take a while so just keep pumping... sucks about your wing bud!! but way to send it. I look forward to the next gnar day!!
@OCEANBOUND1 Thanks, my man. You are so right, just time on the water and breaking it down and taking time to devote just to the single thing you want to learn . You tube has been great to get some great advice and encouragement from other creators like yourself , thanks good winds, to you and crew 😀 👍
Nice one! My pumping is also not good. Sorry about your wing!
@windaddict wings are all rubbish they all get destroyed in the waves eventually 😄 . Yes I need to spend some more time practicing the pump but this is what keeps it all interesting. Thanks for watching and commenting ❤️ good winds my friend
"I destroyed my wing..... it was well worth it" :-) How did you blow out the leading edge? Did you fall on it? Did the leading edge bend in a wave? How much psi was in it? I am amazed that you came down from Gong Curve foils to a 1200cm2 Ypra, down to a 750cm2 Veloce with the same ease, so it looks. I am curious for your upcoming comparison between the latter two. Btw nice camera angle and great music! Thanks for putting in double time in this vid ;-)
@watercrazylion curve to yipra 1200 easy if it's blowing 20 knots and the veloce xl v3 I have is 1150 cm2 and is even easier than the others low end not quite as good as the curve h xl . As always thanks for watching 👀 it's appreciated.
@watercrazylion just to add, I did not fall on it and was pumped to the correct pressure, but I pulled really hard on handels, and it folded backwards and ripped the seam so not worth repairing . Wing was 2 years old the brands really needed to use tape to reinforce the stress points imo . The gong plus, had a double layer of material where mine ripped from my deconstruction vid I did
Aha. My gong neutra 3m2 V1 folded backwards too once. Since then I put 8psi in and it never happens anymore.
Love the reggae! Watching your pump, I would suggest taking your straps off for a few dedicated pump wing sessions. I think you'll benefit from being able to try different foot placements and those front straps look like they will be restricting valuable real estate. It looks like your not able to use the roller coaster down section of pumping, it looks like you are stuck in the nose up to noise flat phases but don't make it to the nose down, which is the most important phase 🤙🤙
@downwind_drifter I was hoping you would give me your breakdown, I can see the flatting as you say, but missing the glide down the rollercoaster, I will remove straps and give it a go , as always thanks my friend 😀
This is great point also make sure you put equal work through both legs. And for me advice which changed pumping was to think about moving forward with your hips on each pump (on your video you go down and back with hips on each pump) to focus on building forward momentum instead trying to keep lift. This is also realy connected to mentioned foot placement :D
@zb1ggnew thanks so much for the helpfull advice I will try to implement over next few months
hello chris good idea the flymount for analysis of your pumping i dont have one personnaly maybe one time i will get one , your friend got a v3 ultra not a vx ( they are white) . nice freefly session damn for your gear and the other guy. here in france the wind not good since kirk storm, had 2 crappy surf foil session =(
@youdigsurf Yes, flymount is great, but I personally hate the extra weight on the wing, so I take it off after short sessions . Yes, I know it's not the vx but a slip of tongue, and just I had enough of editing this video . I did the video and had a computer crash lost 6 hours work, so I had to do it all again. Haha, these things happen . Thanks for watching Takoons 20% off not bad prices 👌
@@christomo damn the computer crash sux ! On premiere i activated auto save because i had issues too at least im not loosing the all the work.

How much gong foil setup weighs?
@vim55k it depends on what foil and mast set up you have, but they are around the same as most brands. All the products have the weights in the gong website . Hope that helps some . Thanks for watching and commenting.

Excellent idea having redundancy in the leashes. I have both attached to my waist, as I feel handcuffed with wrist or ankle leashes now… but I’m going to consider your method 🤙🤙
@downwind_drifter it's a great solution as it is high enough on the calf that it's out the way, so I don't stand on it . Thanks so much for watching, and commenting means a lot. Have an awesome week dw in Fiji
@@christomo my main personal issue with this exact setup is that I don’t have calves 😅 The idea if redundancy rings as truth though and I’ll incorporate it some how… the first thing will be two stringy things. I enjoy your videos, very peaceful to me 🤙🤙

Great video Chris, those handle passes are looking sweeeeeeet!!! quality drone footage. What a top day on the water that was :
@gb2008bluefrog thanks top ripper roll on our next on e
Thanks for adding some crashes, I can harldy relate to videos showing only 100% perfection - how about pitch stability of the HA foils? - I am struggling here in waves
@MrJaennae if you're not crashing, you're not learning is my motto . I use an 86cm mast, so that helps a bit . BUT it's all just time on the water and learning your foils. The other day I put my new v3 veloce too far back in the foil box and ended up flying far too low to the water the whole session as it just felt wrong . My learning from that is I must write down mast box position for each foil so they feel the same each time I use them. So for yourself, try to find a sweet spot for your foil in the box write it down .Also try to ride very high on your mast. See how long you can hold it high. You will breach, but you will learn loads as well, keep practicing it will come soon enough. Thanks so much for watching and commenting ❤️

Greetings.✋ I'm interested in trying a bigger inflatable in winter for lighter wind and also see how it feels compared to smaller rigid wings I use. I got one like this second hand since it's a compact one, let's see how it goes. What about summer use which is another story, is this a way too big size to learn on. Im interested in the light wind stuff anyway since I windsurf otherwise and the biggest sail I have is a 9sqm. I thought about wing gear that would work in and around the same kind of conditions like when I'm out with that and imagine it would be the windstrength I would start doing this sport. For my 80+ kilos maybe a stable platform closer to 120 under paired with a big 2000 foil. U guys going good here in the clip but already experience of this behind. I see myself just swimming and not getting anywhere even if I have windsurfed alot.😂 This is so much different and I believe it would take a while before getting a gang of it as it did with windsurfing.😁 Best regards from Finland.🤙
@johanasplund5292 hej, I hope you are well 👍 , Those videos are quite old now, and wings and foils have moved on in design. I now use a 5.5m as my big wing with a 1600cm foil. Some modern foils go early, say 12 knots So we need to rethink our options. I think pumping a 5 or 6m wing is more effective than the bigger sales of past . Hope this helps some. Hope that Finland is as stunning as when I was there 20 years ago
Great job Chris! As soon as you start adding new moves to the bag-o-tricks, like behind-the back tacks, you start to gain added balance and agility so that you can keep progressing with even more challenging moves and build up a serious repertoire. It’ll get to the point where you’ll need to make a list of all the moves so you don’t forget! I think it’s very rewarding and fun😊
@@targadave yes need to explore some more moves it really opens up the skatepark of waves when you can turn anywhere you want. Thanks so much for watching
Sun cure from surf source works go9d as well. If it's ancrack all the way through you can use some fiber glass cloth and sun cure type of r3sin. Small batches of epoxy under 10 g are tuff to m8x. Cheers
@walterbunso3675 thanks Walter I'll give that a go if I need too, thanks for a great tip .Have an awesome week, good winds, mate 👌
How would you compare with the previous Veloce H?
@grantmacdonald4838 I never used the old veloce H as I was always told the low end stall on v1 was not very slow so no good for me I our slower swell and my 95kg , so I rode curve h xl or xxl for 10 to 30kn and yipra for high winds 25 to 40kn . The new veloce is easy to ride a little more technical to get going but not as hard as yipra . So far, I have impressed full review in a few weeks. Thanks for commenting. Have a great week 😀
@@christomo I am the same weight and I find the Veloce H to not have much low end. This sounds like it's easier to use.
@grantmacdonald4838 I would say so, I find it as easy as the curve h mind I don't fall much now in waves . I wouldn't want to be learning tacks or gybes on it . It just takes a bit more energy to get on foil initially. The glide is much more overall, And it still turns well.
@@christomo Hi Thanks for your videos. In the current Gong range, which foil would you advise to learn tacking and gybing ? The thing for me is that I already have these manoeuvres under my belt but kitefoilng, on a Chubanga v3 race foil and matching board. I'm thinking getting into parawinging, on a downwind board. So rather unusual profile I guess. What would be your idea on that ? Thanks in advance
@arnaud8423 for dw with a parawing for me @94kg a veloce v3 xxl or a curve h xxl might be lifty with enough glide and still be maneuverable, I fancy trying dw and using a paddle I'm looking a bit bigger at the hdw wings and curve h 4xl , however I'm not sure what to go for not seen much footage of dw on the veloce v3 hdw in dw 😄 Sorry can't help much more
