The single bottleneck path to your base saved you from being attacked en masse from every direction which would have been nigh impossible to defend against.
Meh, a very simplistic and stupid AI. He mined out the middle which was full of high-yield ore and got some nice cash while saving the ore in his base for later. The AI mines the closest ore first and doesn't focus on destroying ore trucks, so when they mined out their bases and went out for more in the middle, it was mostly gone. So they start to try to find more ore, which exist in the players base so they send ore trucks which gets blown up so they build more ore trucks which get blown up while running out of cash. All the while, the human turtles in his base, relying on his early income advantage and that he still has ore in his base and isn't wasting his resources on suiciding ore trucks and units one or two at a time. Not really good gameplay, just abusing an AI that doesn't know tactics and strategy other than "produce units and attack-move towards enemy".
@@nehcrum I actually have the original copy that I bought in the late 90s. The AI that time do attack more frequently than the AI from the remastered. But it's a 25 yrs old plus game so I guess there is that for AI at the time.

Tesla coils are almost like cheating in this game. 4 of them can plug any gap once your base has all entrances covered with coils and add in a few anti aircraft weapons it's game over.
@@aus3492 you don't even need Anti Aircraft in skirmish if you finish it early enough because the computer doesn't build airborne units until quite late.
Pretty easy on a map like that, much harder on open space, and the AI usually tries V2 rockets which are a bit annoying against the teslas and for some reason didnt opt for that here. I personally put some flame throwers before the teslas to protect them, can win on worse maps than that against 7 AI

TIP: Get an MCV into the higher ground with a single road for the 7 opponents to pass by, focus your land defense at the main passageway while you build your base. Me and my friends had done this dozens of times in the Red Alert and Generals games to win a 1vs 7 hard computer AI battle.

Trying to take a large horde of units through a bottleneck or across a bridge, and half of them turn around and try to go all the way around the damn map to get there... 😡😡
My fav map has always been the same since the 90s back when I was a kid, Path Beyond. Play that map with all hard random bots ffa, of course random spawns. It's a fun map for a full game ffa. Or even 3v3s, NE vs SW
Remastered? damn never knew it existed those icons and a graphic look very nice. I still have a very old win98 PC setup in the corner just for nostalgic gaming. With my old RA version it look like a pixel wars.

I still play the old version from time to time. The computer AI never builds a navy. Never. It gets boring after a while. On maps with enough water, if you play as Allies, once you have a few cruisers it's game over.
2 is by far the best in the whole Red Alert universe. The ability to put infantry (GIs or Conscripts) into civilian buildings is awesome and makes for some interesting strategies. You can also capture oil derricks, hospitals, civilian repair depots, and airports for special abilities and bonuses. And each nation also has a special unit (England has snipers, Germany has tank destroyers, iraq has desolators, US has airborne troops, france has the grand cannon, libya has demo trucks, russia has the Tesla tank, and cuba has terrorists)

Based on the era, the most lore-fitting would be: M48 (or some modernized variant) as the Medium Tank - this would settle the part where the gun was either 90 mm or 105 mm as some modernized M48 variants used the 105 mm. T-55 (or some modernized variant) re-scaled for double barrels as the Soviet's basic tank. The concept of Heavy Tank would be deferred to another. When you have captured both sides' War Factories, the dilemma would be whether to build $800 or $950 tanks. They are both so close in cost and effectiveness that they both almost if not make each other obsolete and clutter up your build menu. The solution is to introduce the M60 to replace the $800 option and remove the $950 tank to be replaced with an expensive $2,500++ Abrams that will become the new Heavy Tank. M60 (or some modernized variant) as the tank available when you have captured both sides' War Factories, overwriting the Medium Tank's build menu slot and will have some areas slightly stronger, some areas slightly weaker than the T-55. Costs $800. There are M60 modernized variants out there which look very much like the Abrams in RA1 cutscenes and fits! Abrams as the new Heavy Tank in the game. Will be having heavy firepower and armor overriding and filling the Mammoth's role. Available when you have captured both sides' War Factories and overwrites the T-55 build menu slot. The Abrams could even be double barreled as you have combined both sides' tech. Will cost $2,500 or above. Then the old Mammoth itself will be bumped up into a higher cost and power level. I might be the only person in the world to beat every map on 95 red alert, max ai teams, max difficulty. Even on maps that say less teams you can still play against 7 ai hard teams. I beat every map doing that.

My point is for example the Allied Artillery in Open RA has longer range then the V2 rocket launcher. Bullshit. This allows an allied player to mass against a soviet player, attack their defenses with impunity. I can understand being longer range then the Tesla Coil - fine. Longer range then the Soviet artillery counterpart? Fuck that. Its unbalanced bullshit. Once its fixed, then maybe it would be an okay download...the Original & Remaster are still superior as far as that goes.

This was my old tactic. Enough MIGs to take out a construction yard, then hit again on the War factory before they can build a MCV.
