It was confirmed during the Ahsoka panel that Lars Mikkelsen will be playing Grand Admiral Thrawn. He was on stage with the rest of the cast. They showed an extended trailer to the audience where his face was shown. So extremely happy.

We saw something similar in Rebels and it was mentioned in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Show.
They were to become Imperial spies.
With basic skills and strength training.
Ps even more is the official confirmation of the orange color of the lightsaber Cal Kestis was the first and these are the next.
But I hope they will focus on the fact that, unlike other Imperials, Thrawn is not a villain.

I cried I was so excited. The “heir to the empire” line broke me.
Those books helped me learn how to read when I was a young kid obsessed with Star Wars and it feels so good. I love Thrawn, him being introduced in rebels was amazing, now we’re getting him in love action and my geek heart can’t take it!

I loved your reaction to the "heir to the Empire" line as well as this teaser. Sabine Wren and Hera Syndulla already look so incredible in live-action. Also, I was quite surprised that Huyang from TCW is appearing in this.
Also, I wonder why the dark side users had blood orange light sabers instead of red. That was interesting.

In Rebel Ezra created a new timeline when he save Ahsoka from Darth Vader. That's how they will tie it all in.
When she says, "Heir to the Empire", I just about lost my mind!
It's just amazing to me that Ahsoka Tano was never a part of the Star Wars trilogy but because she was loved by so many people in the animation that they connected her so well to the trilogy itself quite amazing
just so you know ''Heir to the Empire'' is the first book of a thrawn trilogy which came out in the '90s. its a really good story so if they stay true to the story, this show is gonna be absolute fire.

They confirmed Mary Elizabeth Winstead at Celebration in London. This is trailer is so good. Ray Stevenson in the sith grab (if you play the captions) fighting Ahsoka and doing the force choke is playing a character named Baylin and the blond sith is named Shin.

That "heir to the Empire" line was a nice touch. It'll be interesting to see how many elements from the Zahn trilogy make their way into this.
This at least does seem to be setting up that Thrawn is the one in charge of the remnants of the Empire at this point, the one behind Moff Gideon and the rest. It does make sense.
Oh and of course Mary Elizabeth Winstead is Hera.

Considering zhan has written multiple new Canon books for Thrawn now its going to be interesting to see what they take from legends and canon on this
If you look Moff Gideon, he's the closest to Gilad Pellaeon from Legends. He's another character adapted and renamed by Disney to fill the same role.
It is going to lead to the movie Heir to the empire.

a cool thing to know is that the person next to Mon Mothma's left is Senator Xionno, Kazuda's father Kazuda is the main character of Star Wars Resistance, the last chronological animated series in the timeline I don't know if you've seen that show yet but this is another clever way of connecting more threads that lead into the Rise of the First Order it may not be as well received as the other two shows but it's a cute show
I want to start reading "Heir to the Empire" now! I got Thrawn introduced to me in Rebels and he is a frighteningly awesome character!
It took me a while to notice this myself. I actually had to look up the cast for the show, then read about all the characters on Wookiepedia haha. I really enjoyed Star Wars Resistance, but the writing could’ve been better. It would be really cool to see some other SW:Res cameos so the tie in could be stronger, but seeing Kaz’s dad is surprising enough. Filoni also worked on that show, so I like to think that he’s including more of his/animation team’s characters.
Ahsoka looks absolutely fantastic. Excited they got the original voice actor of Thrawn to play the character in live action form.
This Teaser made stoked! As a fan of Rebels and The Clone Wars movie and tv series (and Star Wars in general obviously), I am really hyped for this show! Shame I don't have Disney+ since I am not a fan of streaming (prefer to buy it on home media; still hoping that all these wonderful shows, Marvel and Star Wars, will be released on DVD and Blu ray some day), but I am excited and can't wait to learn more!

Who would have thought that a character that was thought to be a distraction to Anakins arc in the original trilogy that's why she was removed from the script, would turn out to be one of it's most beloved characters. I love me some Ahsoka!

I was never a fan of Heir to the Empire when it came out, but I have to admit the idea is growing on me. But DANG I'm excited for this. I especially like how the crew of the Ghost is going to be more prominent in the show. I thought they'd just have like this walk-on "hi remember me from the cartoon ok bye". But they got stuff going on!
This show is before the scene at the end of Rebels--it is the journey to her becoming Ahsoka the White.
Wendy got me to subscribe because she recognized the move Ahsoka Made from clone wars. Now I need to catchup
The older Dark Side user is Ray Stevenson - Volstagg from the Thor movies. Looks like this character's a bit more serious, but still an absolute badass.

Hey Wendy and Dustin you both definitely have to watch Star Wars Rebels in order for you to understand Ahsoka series because it's a direct continuation of the successful fan favorite Animated Series. We just recently song Zeb make his live-action debut on the Mandalorian Season 3 and now we get to see his family like Sabine, Hera, Ezra and Chopper also in live-action. Cool thing is that was David Tennant Doctor Who himself was a voice of the robot at the end of the trailer. This series will take place in the Mandoverse era right after Return of the Jedi and Ahsoka's appearance on the Mandalorian and The Book Boba Fett.

There is a prophecy about the death of the son of Vader (Luke). But there is an interesting twist. Luke is cloned using the hand he lost during his fight with Vader on Bespin. Luke's clone's name is Lu'uke.
Because of the THRAWN TRILOGY, I suspect Timothy Zahn's books will be incorporated in to the AHSOKA show, as well as Mandalore season 4, Rangers of the New Republic, Book of Boba Fett season 2, and Skeleton Crew, which prefaces Luke's Jedi Academy.

A few points of interest: We see a clear inspiration and homage to the original book series by Timothy Zahn, the so-called Thrawn trilogy from legends. In the trailer, Ahsoka even says the name of the first book, Heir of the Empire. Orange lightsabers are unprofessionally homemade, unstable, similar to Kylo Ren's. This is a reference to the Dark Forces Jedi Knight game series, where the dark Jedi cult had such swords. From this series, we could already see Dark Troopers used in The Mandalorian. Filoni is a big fan of Legends and uses the best of them in the canon. Dark Jedi - not inquisitors, there are speculations in the trailer that it will be Jorus C'Baoth and Mara Jade. We see Ezra for the first time on the hologram. Hera is the wife of Ewan McGregor :)

Ahsoka. They must have a crossing with Luke b4 the Manderlorian arrived to give Grogu his gift. ? That would make More sense and tali in with the time line SO we may get to see Ahsoka talk with Luke more about Grogu

Ya you definitely should, clone wars is loaded with great Ahsoka stuff and this show is pretty much the sequel to rebels so would prob be best to watch both of those before this

They showed us a trailer for Skeleton Crew at the panel and it looked really good! Acolyte was my favorite new content they showed, but Skeleton Crew for sure gave BIG Amblin movie vibes (think ET and the Goonies) in the best way possible.

I can't wait for Asohka and Luke Skywalker to team up.
I'm thinking that if...if...they do bring in Luke at all in this, then they could potentially (or at least it is my hope) they could involve him in helping fight another galactic civil war and give Luke another reason to want to isolate himself later. Even years ago, I was thinking that what if...if...Luke went through a bunch of other stuff before The Force Awakens that left him just so broken and emotionally shattered that the stuff with Kylo with just too much for him and is why Luke was pushed to the edge and was tempted to kill Kylo in his sleep. Of course, it's all just me running away with my imagination and I do not think that would be or could be told in just a Disney+ series and would also take the focus away from Ahsoka. But, what if...if...Mara Jade did eventually become Luke's secret love interest and nobody knew about it and she somehow died and that pushed Luke over the edge and we all thought it was Kylo Ren that did it.
Ohhhhhhh~ I REALLY love this concept, how you’re trying to connect the Luke now to the old, disillusioned Luke we got in Ep 8. I honestly had the EXACT same thought process. Like, I thought that some really heavy stuff had to have happened if Luke just sort of…disconnected from the Force AND the world like that. If we’re lucky, maybe Filoni will plant the seeds that will explain that.

I think doing something like that could help kill 2 birds with 1 stone, so to speak, with giving fans the Luke they always wanted, w hile at the same time, also give Luke a reason to almost lose his mind and sanity enough to be willing to kill Kylo just so he could spare millions of future lives the same type of galactic horrors (& heartbreak) he just had to go through that made dealing with The Empire seem tame in comparison. What can drive a person to go almost insane and act opposite his nature than severe heartbreak and love lost! On a slightly related note, I honestly do not think i would take all that much to "redeem" the new sequel trilogy for fans who dislike it. It seems a very thin line sometimes, IMO, between fans hating a movie vs. fans loving a movie. Just look at how many fan edits are exist that change just a few small things and people love it now OR look at what the BvS Ultimate Edition did to turn some BvS haters into lovers, LOL!
Sometimes all it takes is just 1-2 new lines of dialogue explaining things and/or 1 deleted scene reinstated. Personally, I love the new sequel trilogy (but admit The Last Jedi is my least favorite of the 3). But, I admit it does also have various problems. But, if Luke just had a bunch of other very heavy, dark stuff he went through before The Force Awakens (e.g. another huge civil war where he technically "won" but ultimately suffered great losses and heartbreak) and give Rey a whole backstory of, like, for example, let's say she was actually a clone herself OR an unexpected result of her parents (who actually were random nobodies who were genetically experimented on by Palpatine), to help make the sequel trilogy more cohesive and logical. I could even see another animated series done, in the vain of The Clone Wars series, that could help redefine the sequel trilogy the same way The Clone Wars helped redefine the prequel trilogy. Oh well.

I am tempering my expectations for this series, after watching this current season of The Mandalorian. If Disney is going to be throwing out a phrase like "Heir to the Empire." then they had better be able to deliver something close to that book series. I am all for slight, and I do mean SLIGHT alterations to the books, but like Dustin said, if they do decide to do Heir to the Empire, how will they manage to tie it in to the sequel trilogy?
This is why I always felt like the sequel trilogy movies should have been the Thrawn trilogy instead. Guess we will have to wait and see.
I think the key is The World Between Worlds that Ezra used to save Ahsoka from Darth Vader. Filoni could use it to create/seperate timelines one that leads to Force Awakens and one that leads to something closer to the former Extended Universe.
I also thought the big guy with the white beard and orange light saber was Joruus from the original Thrawn trilogy, but in the Ahsoka series it's apparently someone named Baylan but I wouldn't be surprised if that's just a call sign he and his Dark Jedi friend use and he really is Joruus.
I think multiple timelines would be too convoluted tbh, I doubt they'd do something like that while also producing an entire new feature film with Daisy Ridley as Rey. I think Ashoka will visit WBW but not split the timeline in any way.

I personally have liked the idea of retconning the sequel trilogies by simpling just being a possible future Emperor Palpatine sees with the Force and discovers that plan doesn't work, so he decides to go in an alternate direction to make sure he's successfully cloned. Perhaps this new direction, he also clones Luke Skywalker or sends a red-headed assassin to eliminate Luke.

your point about mara jade not mentioned in the sequels is valid one. I just pretend the sequel trilogy doesnt exist. I dont care that KK is trying her best to keep it relevant with the announcement of a new movie with Rey. For me, after the Disney purchase, Star Wars continued with the Mandalorian and everything after.

As of right now, I do not care the connective tissue from shows to Force Awakens because we do not truly know if the sequel trilogy is or not to be re-conned. It feels there is a theory running around of the two timelines, Ahsoka lives and Ahsoka dies that it appears to been created in Rebels. So, I'm more focus what Favreau and Filoni are doing for Star Wars as a whole.

About this stuff not being mentioned in the sequels... They don't need to be. Just think back to The Clone Wars and the prequels. Like, Ahsoka's existence is never acknowleged in the prequels.
They're not doing the Heir to the Empire story. It's just a great Easter Egg comment for fans

How to connect with the Force Awakens? Not connecting. Fabreau and Filoni invented in Rebels the "world between worlds" which clearly appears in the trailer, even in the logo. Ahsoka or somebody else will cause to "everything change" and resurrect the Expanded Universe. At least is my hope.
Am I the only one that hopes it doesn't follow Heir to the Empire? I'm kinda hoping it follows on from the Thrawn novels. There's a chunk of potential there. Leave Heir to the empire in Legends, lets build a army of ex empire and rebels to fight the unknown region threats.
I do love the idea of a team up of former enemies that are forced to work together.

Thrawn has already appeared in this post EU canon (Rebels) and he was very much a villain.

This looks interesting, but I would caution Justin not to get too invested in the idea that they are using the Thrawn trilogy storylines - you'll just be disappointed.

Those people need to consider how many of the animated voice actors when on to portray their characters in live action productions. The only one I can think of is Steve Blum, and that was still just his voice.

6:25 That's because we spent most of the Force Awakens with a pro-sand lunatic that kept whining about going back to Jakku. I'm Team Anakin, screw sand! And unless there's a Star Wars Tinder for Jedi, I doubt the universe at large would know about Mara Jade. But if anyone could make those pieces fit, It's Filoni and Favreau.
Sadly this is a change to heir of the empire. This is ahsoka in the place of Luke
