I pretty much only hear people talking about A Court of Mist and Fury as if it is the best series in the world but I thought there were a lot of problems in the series as well. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the problematic parts
Seriously lady, you recommend a book and it goes onto my Amazon wish list. You are bad for my credit card. lmao. The only ones I've read so far is A Court of Mist and Fury which I just read on Christmas Eve+Christmas Day and like you, couldn't put it down until I was done. It was like "sorry family! No Christmas until I see what happens!" and Three Dark Crowns, which I read on your recommendation and it was such a fun concept and I loved it! I can't wait to see what happens next because holy...that ending!
Erin Brown I personally am 17 years old and I loved it! It is quite long, but it reads very smoothly and I found no trouble keeping up with the plot. After you get used to the terminology it reads like a YA fantasy.
yeah... I heard from someone that apparently Pat finished writing the third book, but it's the last book in the trilogy, and he has a lot of questions to answer and loose ends to tie, so maybe it's taking a while to edit....?I dunno. I just hope it comes out as soon as possible
It's unbelievable Tilia, I read Way of Kings and Words of Radiance back to back 2 weeks ago, safe to say I can't start any epic fantasy book until now cause they were such a masterpiece.
I'm SO PUMPED for the Kingkiller adaptations going on. One little thing--Lin's going to be involved in ALL of the adaptations!! The announcement of his involvement just happened to coincide with the announcement that the TV series was green lit. He'll also be a consulting producer (specifically for music) for the movie adaptations!!!
I loved "The Emperor's Blades", "The Name of The Wind", "Wise Men's Fear", "Six of Crows", "Assassin's Apprentice", "The Penderwicks in Spring" and "The Foxhole Court" (whole trilogy) :D Safe to say I had a great reading year!
omg Lin-Manuel Miranda is going to be involved in a KingKiller Chronicles tv show?! Well now I must prioritize continuing with the KingKiller chronicles
I read 54 books this year, graduated from undergrad and started grad school. It's been busy FOR sure but I took so many of your recommendations in my reading list this year! I HATE Sci-Fi, but still managed to really enjoy Illuminae and Gemina. Also, just finished Three Dark Crowns and I totally agree with your statement about it being underrated. I'm really looking forward to One Dark Throne. 2017 needs to get here faster!
Flamecaster, yes!! I read that and the Seven Realms series this year and they've been my favourite reads of the year. Super excited for the second book in this new series next year.
OMG I didn't know that The Kingkiller Chronicles was going to be a TV series AND a movie! And Lin-Manuel Miranda... I'm speechless and so happy right now. I hope it ends being awesome!
It took me a really long time to get into it and i didn't think i would carry on with the next book but towards the end i was like YES, so it might seem like a book you're not loving but then it just gets awesome in the second half so if you start it and it seems like you might not be loving it just push through!
My favourite books that I read in 2016 was the Six of Crows duology, The Nightingale, Legend, The Kite Runner, A Thousand Splendid Suns, Shadow and Bone, and Crown of Midnight.
Yessssss I'm currently reading A Wise Man's fear so I'm so pleased to see it on here! I find your pronunciation of Kvothe hilarious - I say (Kothe), rhymes with clothe, hahaha
Reagan ( I guess I spelled your name wrong. If I did, then I am really sorry about it), first of all, belated merry Christmas!! I was quite surprised when u included Brown girl dreaming in your list because people don't talk about it very often in Booktube. I bought this book a few days ago but haven't really started reading it. I hope it's amazing. Also, I read the nightingale a few weeks ago because you recommended the book in one of your videos and, oh boy, it was absolutely breathtaking. Thank you so so so much for recommending the nightingale!!
Some favorites of mine this year: The Six of Crows duology, Vicious, The Song of Achilles, The Queen of Blood, A Monster Calls, Heartless, The Gentleman
Thank you so much for talking about Shattered Realms. Seven Realms is my favorite series, and I started reading Flamecaster, but I was so broken hearted I had to put it down. I have been scared to pick it back up, but now I have the courage once again!
Awesome reading year! Literally every book you mentioned that I haven’t read yet is on my TBR! I also thought the Six of Crows Duology was absolutely incredible. I similarly was engrossed in ACOMAF- looking back I can definitely recognize its problems but at the time of reading I loved it. Unfortunately I didn’t love Three Dark Crowns- I just couldn’t get into it, but I’m glad you loved it!💗
i read ACOTAR and i enjoyed it a lot! can't wait to read ACOMAF! I loved Six of Crows and I really wanna get the second book.. I've heard a lot of great things about Illuminae, might pick it up soon.. I'm really interested on reading Three Dark Crows and The Black Prism trilogy..
So many awesome books! So many I still need to read! Loved A Court of Mist and Fury! Can't wait for the next one! I meant to get to Flamecaster this year and never did! I'll definitely have to soon! I haven't really heard anyone talk about it so I'm glad you enjoyed it! Loved the first series!
For all of you that love fantasy books like Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicles), you would probably love the Gentlemen Bastard series by Scott Lynch as well. The first one being The Lies of Locke Lamora. There are currently three out, and more to come. It's my favorite currently running fantasy series!
Nightingale was the most emotionally moving read for me as well. Hopefully I'll get to the Lightbringer series next as it was all you could talk about in 2016 ;)
The Nightingale was one of my favourite books of the year too, I absolutely loved it, it made me cry so much! Some of my other favourites were: The Trials of Apollo by Rick Riordan, A Tale of Two Cities by Charles Dickens, The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller, All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, Brain on Fire by Susannah Cahalan and In the Afterlight by Alexandra Bracken. It was a pretty good reading year, I read lots of good books and not many were 1 or 2 star ratings.
I was hesitant for three dark crowns but I finally picked it up because of you Reagan. I've been watching you for a while and I trust your recommendations :)
I really don't know why, but I trust your judgement and almost every book you talk about, you get me hooked on and wanting to buy it. Also you're inspiring me to get out of my atrocious reading slump and just get reading, reading, reading!
Ahh I swear most of my favourite books this year were recommended by you Regan, you have a way with words and making me NEED every book you talk about haha. Anyway I read and LOVED the first two books of the Mistborn series, the first two in the Lightbringer series, The Martian by Andy Weir (yay mars and non boring science) and the Six of Crows duology in 2016. I'm hoping to get through a bunch of unfinished series next year, and now you've sold me on Three Dark Crowns ripppp. Hope anyone who bothered to read my rambling is having a great day, HAPPY HOLIDAYS
Ugh, I love when I read a YA book without romance! It truly is so refreshing. Don't get me wrong, I love a bit of good romance, but it can get very annoying and repetitive. I've always preferred action over romance anyway :)
I'm really interested in Three Dark Crowns. I read Anna Dressed In Blood by the same author a couple years ago and loved it so I might have to give this a go sometime next year :)
three dark crowns sounds so interesting.. the way regan describes it makes me want to pick it up next.. but i still have a lot of unread books and series in my shelf 😭😭😭
Girl I've been waiting since I was a sophomore in high school (currently a senior in college) for the next KKC book. I wish I could say I've given up but rather I'm just in severe denial about how much I love those books, and as soon as we get any news, I'm sure I'll be in line at some midnight release.
I hate to be that person, but Kvothe is pronounced like "Quothe". I figure you would like to know, but it doesn't matter that much! Great choices by the way, we have a lot of books in common! Happy New Year!
I read the Slated trilogy this year. It's a psychological thriller where the main character has like four different names from specific years of her life. It was probably one of my favorite reads besides the Lunar Chronicles series.
ah you make me want to read so many books! I've only read the six of crows duology and I want to read them all... really like your channel btw, you're very energetic
Oh, and some books I can really recommend are Stoner by John Williams, Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, The Long Walk by Richard Bachman (Stephen King) and The Snow Child by Eowyn Ivey (I think you even own that one), those were some wonderful books!
I had a couple of 5 star reads this year: Ready Player One, by Ernest Cline which was deliciously quirky and tickled my nostalgia bone in the best way possible! I loved the Sarah Andersen's comics collection, Adulthood is a myth, and I can't wait for the next one! I really enjoyed an Ember in the Ashes, by Sabaa Tahir and finally, I adored The Strange and Beautiful Sorrows of Ava Lavender. If you like High Fantasy, you should definitely check out Robin Hobb and Trudi Canavan, they have some great series to sink your teeth into.
HOLD UP! I didn't know that there was going to be a spin-off for the Seven Realms series! oh my god. Thank you for this video, I've been busy with school and haven't been able to read. I'll definitely be reading some of these!
I also loved Three Dark Crowns!!! I read through it super quickly, and while I did pretty much guess the ending, that probably made me like it even more because it was exactly the direction I was hoping it was going in.
Great list! I'm glad that you were honest about the problematic aspects of ACoMaF. Also, completely agree about The Nightingale... such an amazing book. I'll have to look into Brown Girl Reading, it sounds like a good read.
I trust your recommendations 100% ever since I picked up Six of Crows and loved it after you recommended it. Will add Black Prism to my list. Thanks and happy new year!
I loved A Court of Thorns & Roses so much! But I could not get through A Court of Mist and Fury! It dragged out like crazy and I found myself rolling my eyes at the silly dialogue and lack of plot in the middle. Added it to the DNF shelf on Goodreads...

Great series.

CarolineCecilia Would teens still enjoy it? Regan describes it as adult but the magic system sounds so fascinating
Erin Brown I personally am 17 years old and I loved it! It is quite long, but it reads very smoothly and I found no trouble keeping up with the plot. After you get used to the terminology it reads like a YA fantasy.
