I loved the Enchanted!!! It was really dark but I loved how it makes you see that not everything is black and white and how it makes you feel for characters who you would otherwise despise.

Short books often pack an amazing punch and cut all the filler! Also makes you feel like you've achieved something, makes the read book list for 2017 look better and gives me something to chat about in my end of the month wrap ups if I have been super busy! X

Yes to this video!! I actually read The Storied Life of AJ Fickry on a plane years ago. It was a 3-hour plane trip, but it really grabbed my attention the entire time! I just recently bought Dark Matter and will definitely save it for some long-trip reading after this.

These are all such awesome recs!! Vacation reads are such a specific vibe, but so many different TYPES of books work so well for vacation time. And totally with you on thinking The Enchanted maybe isn't the best for a beach read.... A lil too intense lol. For me, Sarah Dessen books are the perfect vacation reads :)

If you're going to read Furiously Happy, I highly recommend the audiobook. I am listening to it currently and it's a riot! Jenny Lawson actually narrates herself which is really cool! You get to hear it in the voice and character of the author.
    Short reads for vacation....
The Boy of My Dreams by Dyan Sheldon (YA Romcom)... if you can find it.
    www.goodreads.com/book/show/1379722.The_Boy_of_My_Dreams
Scribbler of Dreams by Mary E. Pearson (YA Drama & Romance)
    www.goodreads.com/book/show/645149.Scribbler_of_Dreams
The Serendipity series by Paula Danziger (YA Romcom, only two tiny books!) And the series is about a family that goes on vacation, so it's kinda perfect!
    www.goodreads.com/series/69431-serendipity-scavenger-hunt
Shadows of the Forest by Emma Michaels (YA Fantasy... horrorish)
    www.goodreads.com/book/show/32060797-shadows-of-the-forest
If you're into YA horror fantasy, just about all of Lois Duncan's books are short.... I'd recommend Gallows Hill, Stranger With My Face, Locked in Time, and The Third Eye.
    www.goodreads.com/author/show/26819.Lois_Duncan
The Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber (YA Romcom Urban Fantasy) has quite a few books, but they are quite short... like, carry around in your purse short. Plus they're really funny and would make a really good read for vacation!
    www.goodreads.com/series/41778-vampire-kisses
Amelia Atwater-Rhodes is another author whose books are quite short... she writes YA Fantasy and Urban Fantasy. I'd recommend any of her series, they're all great!
    www.goodreads.com/author/show/17082.Amelia_Atwater_Rhodes
Another is Tamora Pierce (Middle Grade & YA Fantasy). Some of her books can be read in one sitting.
She has two universes which her series and quartets fall under.
There's Tortall... magic and knights and powerful girls and women and romance and political drama (YA)
    www.goodreads.com/series/50262-tortall
and Emelan... magic and outcast kids learning that they have magic and political drama (Middle Grade and YA)
    www.goodreads.com/series/56730-emelan
Short story collections would be really good too, especially the smaller collections...
Young Warriors: Stories of Strength (YA Fantasy)
    www.goodreads.com/book/show/13832.Young_Warriors
    Half Human (YA Fantasy)
    www.goodreads.com/book/show/363416.Half_Human
Manga would be perfect! I recommend (all of these have anime series - all english dubbed - and I would recommend watching them as well!)
    Kamisama Kiss - www.goodreads.com/series/53361-kamisama-hajimemashita
    Ghost Hunt - www.goodreads.com/series/84498-ghost-hunt
    Blood+ - www.goodreads.com/series/59156-blood

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee is a great quick read, it's like scifi chick-lit and it's SO good. It's a little over 400 pages but I'm a slow reader and I read it so quickly. It reads like a contemporary but has futuristic elements and it's kind of hard to fit it into a genre because it's so unique. Great for mystery/thriller lovers

I recommend Passarola Rising by Azhar Abidi! An enchanting story taking place in the 1700s about a young man whose brother has invented a ship that can fly. The writing is unimpressive at some points, but the descriptions are breathtaking and there is much to make up for a few poorly-structured sentences. Multiple kings and historical figures make appearances (such as Voltaire!), which I thought was wonderful. It's a small, enjoyable book with a LOVELY cover. I read it in two days.

I like reading but I'm not an avid reader and I am also a VERY slow reader... I'd like to get tips for how I can incorporate reading more into my day. How do you have the time to read so much? Like do you have a schedule? Do you usually read at night? Do you read throughout the day? Etc...?

    • @marythewinter
      @marythewinter 7 років тому +2

tiffp323 I'm not her, but I have some tips!
I schedule it, after I come home from a day at uni I spent for like 20 min just reading with tea. I'll study till max 8 and then read. Reading more is also a thing about priorities, instead of watching Netflix and UA-cam(which I love) you can read. Change the book sizes. After reading a big book, or maybe throughout, read a shorter book. Although I love big books I do read shorter books. Before I go to bed I turn of my phone and just read for like an hour or so. I hope I helped you! x
