It shows you most hobbiest barely scratch the surface, awsome to see something like this 👍 much love from england
I have tons of Arowanas and a trick I use to to make sure they don't get their Drop I use is that I put a few Ping Pong (table tennis) Balls on top of the water and let it float around so their always constantly looking up. Try it and it'll work. Haven't had a drop eye for 5-6 years and up to 20-25 Arowanas
I love this channel!!! You are such an inspiration to me and many other starter hobbiest! Thank you for starting this channel and teaching us so much about aquariums
Hey Joey, next time consider two things. 1. When the arowana is waking up and you are not done, use the syringe to run clove oil water through the gills and keep her sedated. 2. When placing the fish back in the water, I like to move them forward and backwards to have that new water run through the gills and get the clove oil water out of the system. Now, I know you said that you have done them quite a few times so you have your techniques, you also might have done some of this and just did not include in the video. But if you didn't know then there is something to think about. Either way awesome video and thank you for sharing it with us.
Ive seen the drop eye corrected with surgery before, i just cant bring myself to do it. Mad props joey! Great vid as always!
That was one of the best fish surgery procedures I've seen done in the hobby. You've got steady hands. Putting in my contacts daily my hands shake more than that.
Thank you for filming this. It was very educational. I hope he survived and it helped him greatly
That was bloody awesome. Omg I was holding my breath the whole way through. How can you keep us waiting lol. This is the BEST channel on the internet. Thank you x
Its the things we do for our pets. That sheds light on how serious Animal Lovers we truly are. You are the KING
THIS is why JOEY MULLEN is KING OF DIY! Who can pull off a stunt like this on a $3000 fish and make it look so easy?! Seriously, JOEY IS THE MAN!
Thank you for this video. Shows the nitty gritty sides of the hobby that EVERYONE should know about. I used clove oil on a large tinfoil Barb to remove a fungal infection very early in my fishkeeping experience. If this video was available then it would have been so much less stressful for me. Everything went well!
I believe ya Joey. I eat to much fatty foods and I got drop belly. Prof
Same
Absolutely insane I’ve been watching for over 2 years. Seems like a few months. One of the best to do it.
Dude we’re gonna start calling you Dr.! LOL Dr. DIY
Totally! lol "King Doc"
Can we just take a moment to admire how majestic Susan is? Can't believe how much she grew!
He 😂👌🏾
She grew so much that she goes by Susanna now.
I was glued to this video, very interesting! As for a future guess I believe he will not eat his little tank mates, since he was introduced after they where well established.
This is a serious _saga_ . I can't wait to see how everything turned out! Thank you for sharing all of this with us, and for the clove oil tip for toothaches!
Just when one THINKS you have given us EVERYTHING you give us THIS WOW the EDUCATIONAL VALUE of your content coupled with the ROYAL GEMS IVE RECEIVED and applied to my pastime in the hobby is why YOU ARE KING SIR
Of course the tetras are alive. You're the King of fishkeeping!💜
Yooo...nice to see educational vids like this again. Glad that he's ok now. By the way....how's your saltwater tank? Haven't seen a update since you put the banggai cardinalfish in it.
“To be continued”. Lol. You should be producing tv dramas.
I worked as a Fisheries Biologist assistant as a temp job in college. We were trapping Brook Trout in Maine and clipping their fins to mark them while conducting a population study. We anesthetized them using a mint oil instead of clove. It worked really well and recovery was very fast.
Joey with the cliff hangers! This was super interesting BTW. Can't wait for the next one!
Wow, thanks for sharing this. It was very educational. Can't wait for the next video and too see how the fish is doing.
A fish keeper, teacher and now a doctor.
An inspirational icon
Hi Joey. Thank you for a very helpful and informative surgery video. I really plan on doing this sometime this year. Can you please let me know about the dimensions of your fish net, especially the net area itself? Thanks and hoping for your reply soon.
**Joey filming Arowana**
Susan: "Oh hai! Did not sees you there with you big cameras, you come film me?"
😂😂
Thats the best educational channel that I've ever seen, congratulations you make me a little more happy!!!
Yikes that one was intense for me!!! But good video can't wait for the next one!!
Fantastic Joey! Great work! One question I'm personally curious about... obviously assuming water quality, diet, whatever causes it is correct, is it possible "drop eye" can return in the same eye, same place, after corrected?
Sure can
Yes it's possible that the drop eye can return after surgery since it's just fats, so basically after the surgery it's just weather you control your Arowana diet to try to prevent.
But as Joey said there's many different thinking of how drop eye is form and as for my thinking is that drop eye is purely depend on the individual fish or the arowanas Gene, as I have seen skinny aros still having drop eyes
A man of talent and knowledge,,, Thankyou joey🏴
That's crazy to see how much they've grown, so impressive!
As a lifelong fisherman, I can tell there might be a risk of infection or fungal growth on the fish, as the towel wasnt wet as the fish was laid on it. instead the towel most likely absorbed the slime coating the scales. When I catch a fish that I do not want to keep, I wet my hands before laying hands on them, so to keep the slime coat intact. Going to watch the next part now.
It was nerve wracking. I was so worried during the whole sequence..
I’m looking forward to see the arowana along dwarf tetras. He will look like a whale shark and small pilot fish haha great video Joey, MORE PLEASE! 😆
You are pulling out some amazing content, really, well done man
Haha I forgot how little he was when you got him, the dopey little drunk!
It so interesting to see this procedure preformed! Cant wait to see how hes doing now!
When ever I see those old clips with dates It reminds me that I have been watching your video's for years
Rob Hill same
If Asian arowana eat insects in the wild, why don’t you buy crickets from the pet store and feed them those every once in a while?
I'd want to see that
it would involve gutloading the insects as well, and even then nothing guarantees that even then they aren't riddled with parasites/bacteria
great video as usual thanks for showing this stuff
So good.......was like a big pimple! Loved it
Solid video, can’t wait for the next one! Well done Dr DIY
You need some more freshwater in your life
I can't imagine drop eye is caused by the Arowana looking down at it's bottom dwelling tank mates. After all in the wild there would be fish swimming lower than Arowanas.
One of your most interesting videos. Also did my eyes deceive me? Susan looked like s/he had a growth spurt? s/he looked bigger than the arowana.
How pathetic, your quarantine tank is like my dream tank 🤦♂️
That's was super interesting to watch. Thanks for the amazing video.
Another video proving that Joey is a master fish keeper! Congrats on the successful surgery :). ( i imagine it wasn't easy )
I love you channel! I myself have a 29 gallon aquarium with large goldfish and a pleco I’ve had for over 9 years
Been waiting for this video for so long
I absolutely love watching you though my husband doesn't always like the ideas I get. I want to fill my place with as many tasks as possible minimum of 50 gallons each. I used to have angels but had to give them to a friend because my tank got to small for them. Keep up the great work.
Awesome video Joey i really love what you bring to the hobby. Plase reveiw last video fotage Suzan clearly atacked the Arrowana and spooked it. Not blaming or wane shame any fish but it haopens and its nature of the fish please let us know if you see the fin nip.
Very informational thanks for sharing. The tetras are safe way too small for such a big fish to Chase.
Damn Joey, thanks for filming the process for us!
King of diy because he’s great at diy of arowana fish
Really cool to watch! Reminded me of a Dr. Pimple popper procedure lol... I really hope the red arowana makes it 🤞🏼
Just wow that was amazing can't wait for the next video I am addicted to your channel
Damn shakey hands or not, you've done a perfect job. No damage and u got done what u tried to do. Hats off for you Joey
Love this series!! 👍👍
Drop eye is very common.
Catching it is the most scariest parts, chances for damage the fin and tail are frustrating.
Very informative and educational great video!!
5:41.. oh boy.. this is going to be interesting. Getting a bit impatient. Hahaha. Thanks again for sharing. 👍👍. Great video yet again.. keep it up Joey...
Very happy to see the Joey content flowing again! 👌 sorry about all the nasty comments about your fish jumping and dying you know deep down it’s just cuz we all love your fish so much and we lash out like children. Your the fish father.
Wow my dad for years has watched this channel. I always thought my dad knew alot but man oh man up you are the king if diy dish thanks for doing this me and my dad have love watching your channel
thanks!
Mate I love your tanks and the way you explain how you do stuff mate it’s always hard when doing surgery like this but like you say you are more the capable and it’s the perfect time to do this operation keep up the good work I have had to do some work on my fish well koi but seeing light at the end on the tunnel now i have put a little blog on my channel about a fish I call Daisy 👍👌
It’s kind of comical watching Joey try to use that bag. Dude, it’s like trying to catch a koi in a sand which ziplock
Wow, I was in suspense and I was worried so much but then success. Medical dramas don't have as much as suspense as this piece did. I was on pins and needles. Great job!
Wowza !! Impressive stuff 😳 , hope you managed to resolve the issue . Looking forward to the next installment
oh gosh, that throw back to the video in December 2017 gave my some serious flashbacks, that was one of the first videos I watched from you. That arowanna looks so small! Didn't notice how much they grew up. I got my first tank in Jan 2018 and I haven't looked back since. (Now I have 2 tanks, one with tiger barbs, black skirt tetras and nerites and another tank with my betta boy that has come to uni with me!) Thank you for all the work that you do on your videos and your wonderful fish
Thank you for your content bud. I have recently had to leave work in the engineering design due to mental health issues and I'm turning all my focus to aquatics. It's always been a passion of mine and I feel fully capable just as you. With a bit of enginuity and research there is no reason why you cant do it yourself. Watch this space. I wanna make waves too.
You are fuel, motivation and a damn good dude. I dont think you will see this but I hope you hear this stuff enough
its almost 2 years ago already since you got these fish? time flies or swims?
this man is amazing!! this video proves it so well
I'll never own one of these fish. Too much heartache and too many headaches!
Operation at 12:30
Boooooooooooooooommmmmm fire video joey boom epic education followed from start years ✨🤙👍 amazing operation no fear education all the way dude you will be more famous in all the right ways in coming future you deserve it
Good job, one of your best video, if not the best. And I've seen for about 3 years straight of your videos.
Very educational, show the stuff under the microscope was very proving of your theory.
Cant wait to watch this love your uploads joey hope your okay after the arowana situation
Oh WOW Joey!!! You certainly live up to your name The King of DIY...Utter Respect to you Joey, Amazing job.Thank you for sharing with us. Hoping for a full recovery & cannot wait for the next video, So very Proud of you & your bravery is off the limit! RESPECT :) XX
Breeding arowanas will be hella intresting
DIY is back. This is DIY surgery. Super nice !
It's been 2 years already? Holy frick, time sure goes fast
What a great series of videos. Nice work Joey
You should name him Mad Eye Moody ;)
I shake so bad when I'm clipping my dogs nails so I can only imagine how nerve wracking this would be 😬 well done
Love thoes Arrows! Joey, you think about getting another or stick with the remaining 2? Would had loved to see the breeding and resulting fry. Are the rays breeding now too that the tank was changed? Hope the big guy recovered ok. Looked like he was coming around fine enough and the procedure looked well done.
Awesome video joey, great surgery work on the eye. The tank with the monster in looks amazing.. Great job mate
Props to you sir, I dont think I could do it! Keep up the great work (:
That was awesome! I wanted to be a vet when I was young, then I discovered electronics, so now I'm tinkering with resistors and diode, but this was so cool to watch!
Joey was like diffusing a time bomb in this video. It’ was very nerve racking.
i knew it! thanks for confirming this joey... ever since i knew drop eye was never caused by bottom dwellers or bright lights because if it was caused by lights that are too bright, then why is it that arowanas that has tanning lights not develop drop eye right? hahaha. very nice video though lots of things to learn!
Very educational video, thanks for videoing and sharing.
I know this video wasn't about Susan but damn look at that fish! Susan is the best
Wow Joey that was amazing and i've never seen anything like that before!! I know Vet's that wouldn't tackle that surgery! You truly have earned your title King of DIY !! Thank you for showing us how you take care of your Arowana. 😀🎃💀👻
could a barb have jabbed your other arowana to make it jump out Joey. just a thought . well done on the surgery .
You did a great job, doctor! It's easy to see you're nervous while doing it, but you did a very good job :) Little fish will love you more after this :D
This was awesome J... ur the damn Arowana Whisperer this was intense 🤙🏽🐠🤙🏽
Hey joey I’m a big fan of yours amazing video I absolutely am in love with the tank the Asian aro went into absolutely beautiful and yes you can scape amazingly bro this was a lights out video as usual and you have a true gift with all you do my friend 👊🏻👍
Love this kind of stuff. I sewed up a chickens neck twice after a puppy attack and it was super easy and they both did great. One time was with plastic thread and the other was super glue.
OMG I was so stressed watching this video, but surgery was fascinating! Can't wait to see the next video.
Interesting video! Thanks Joey
nice one Joe
