    So sad to see such a beautiful fish sustain such bad injuries. I'm one for extended tank cycling and will always constantly check my water parameters. There's a serious lack of awareness in the fish hobby of just how important checking your water quality is. I can't imagine how painful those wounds were for the fish but I'm so glad you intervened, Dr. Loh! Those food shots at the end are just adorable!!

    • @futuresocieties.
      @futuresocieties. 3 роки тому

      And always make sure that when you cycle a tank, that it is a fish less cycle, not with a fish in the tank that will cause it to undergo unneeded suffering. don't use the fish as ammonia source, rather use simply food and use prime on schedule to get a tank cycled.

    I recently did a larger than average water change..and added the usual amount of de-clor for my normal water changes.It was not enough,the next day some fish showed skin burn. Now,when it comes to keeping brackish water fish,Rock salt is what I would buy. Now for medicinal,I use epsom salts..and used on the Rainbow fish affected by the water change. The day after that they looked fine.
    Is epsom salts prefered? Or do you think any salt minus iodine is as good?

    Hi Doc amoxicillin can cure parasites in fish especially ich and velvet diseases?

    • @thefishdoctor8746
      @thefishdoctor8746  2 роки тому

      amoxycillin is an antibiotic, suitable for treating against bacterial diseases that are sensitive to that antibiotic. We commonly request to run lab tests called "culture and sensitivity" to determine the best antibiotics to use. Some antibiotics like metronidazole an trimethoprim sulphonamide have acitivities against some protozoa, but on the main, antibiotics are best reserved for treating cases of bacterial diseases. Use API aquarium salt to stop further infection in a hospital tank. Change water everyday for 5 days. Add a air stone for aeration to reduce stress. Feed your fish a small amount of soaked pellet, remove uneaten foods to prevent ammonia spike. This allows the fish to have energy for fast recovery. Add API stress coat to promote healing cause it has aloe Vera extract. Give extra care and love to your fish until fully recover. 😊😊😊 wish you fish will be okay.

    Does anyone know how the quality of substrate maintenance affects fish health ?

    • @thefishdoctor8746
      @thefishdoctor8746  2 роки тому +2

      This is a fairly big topic.
      A couple of important notes...
      Substrates can leach minerals, affecting the pH, KH and GH of water. An inert substrate will allow you to best adjust water parameters.
      The particle size and texture of substrate is important and should suit the type of animals you intend to keep. Smooth is best. Size depends if fish can accidentally swallow it.
      Dark colour is more suitable for the majority of fish.

    I have a pacu who I think is suffering from ammonia burn as well. His eyes are cloudy and his skin seems very ashy. He’s not eating and being very lethargic. One of my filters failed and I didn’t realize how foul the water was until his behavior changed. The water was very brown. Original test showed .5 ammonia but 160 ppm nitrate. After 2 days and 2 large water changes the nitrates are at about 5ppm. I have added 2 hob filters and corrected the issue with the 2 canister filters. I have used a quadruple dose of prime and added in pimafix. Is there anything else I can do besides water changes Dr. Loh ?
