It's also extra-useful advice for novice fishkeepers, not to mention reassuring for us fellow Canadians, as antibiotics are now unavailable, save via vet prescription. (And Joey's the closest thing to a fish vet I've got--both figuratively, and literally, at 3 hours drive lol).
I love that he’s hanging out by you the whole time your talking. Seems very curious. He looks beautiful in that tank and it’s fun to get to know his personality more.
Steve Sanderson i was thinking the same but nobody’s perfect... I give him respect for doing the surgery! He was probably so focused on that he didn’t even think of wetting the towel with aquarium water.
Man those lenses makes your tanks look so small, its probably why all the fuss about tank size ... people seems to forget how big an 8 feet tank is until you walk next to one inside a house to get the better perspective than what you see at the lfs or a zoo lol. On the build footage you added we can clearly see the immense size of that tank because you look so small next to it ;) keep on Joey, still enjoy all your videos :)
Hey joey, glad your arowana is well, but I did notice something that might help this slime coating problem in the future. I noticed the towel you used was dry, it helps when the towel is damp with tank water. Stops the fish from drying out. Big fan and love your videos 👍
Have you ever thought of keeping an Octopus ? They are very smart and extremely entertaining... Can I suggest an octopus Cyanea. They need toys and stimulation. Remember to put a lock with a key on the lid or he’ll escape.
Love your channel, and you've taught me a lot, but the main thing you've taught me is that I'll never own an Arowana! I get stressed when a molly gets Ich, let alone things like you've shown us. Too much heartache for me....that tank is incredible looking though! Here's to the best 🍻
So when you did the operation, You wrapped him in a dry fluffy towel, of course this absorbs all the moisture within his slime coat and wipes it off. When we go fishing for common and mirror carp, large scaled slime coated fish. We handle them with cold, wet towels, particularly in warm environments, and only when we have to, If it is a particularly difficult hook to remove.
I started watching your videos i think back in 2010 when i was in the hobby, its pretty damn cool to see you still making videos 9 years later, and seeing how much has changed. Props to you man!
Probably due to that oil, It probably messed up his ph on his skin. I'm glad he's doing better and he's a strong fish I'm sure he can handle a little oil and eye surgery.
Not sure if you do or you mentioned it but, wetting your hands while handling the fish can decrease the loss of slime and help to inhibit that growth of bacteria. Anyway love the vids Cheers!
Adi Mamidyala ya basically taking that slime coat off which helps them fight against different harmful fungus, bacteria, parasites, whatever can get in there. People forget our hands secrete a pretty acidic oil, pretty much burning the fish if dry.
I used to have a silver arowana and his best friend was a diamond gourami. It was supposed to be food but after eating the female gourami the arowana was never interested in the male gourami, and the gourami felt save from the other big cichlids when he was near the arowana and so they kept swimming together for about three years.
People just don't realize how efficient good water is for treating fishes, instead of just throwing dozens of medicines just clean water usually does the trick.
You take proper precautions and execute with love and carefulness with your fish you teach so much in videos I hope everyone appreciate the videos keep it up good job!!
Tbh walking into a room with a giant fish tank with a huge fish like that would be awesome, but walking up to it and realizing there’s schools of tiny fish in with it would be cooler than just having so many it’s obvious. Just a really beautiful detail I think you should keep it like this.
I find it interesting how the Arowana put some atention at your explanation of what happened when you added in the other tank, it’s like he appreciates what you do whit his eye and the cares that you give it to him, soo cool man
The scaping in that tank looks amazing, it's your nicest tank I've seen since I watching your channel. Also I agree that he wont bother the Tetra's. He'd have to be starving or one would have to swim in his mouth. Otherwise him going after one of them would be like you or I running after a grain of rice with a full stomach when we know there's Chinese food for dinner later.
I like the dimensions. 36” depth (front to back) . More surface area. Lots of turn around room. . 👍🏻. Perfect dimensions for a 375g arowana tank. Very inspiring work you do.
That’s because you didn’t wet the towel it’ll obviously get removed if you use a dry towel just wet the towel next time that’s also why you have to wet your hands when your handling fish
the eye could have been better corrected when you operated at a younger age. it would have been even better then while growing up. ALSO, next time you operate, try to use a WET towel. not the bone dry one you put over it. would have made a big difference with the mucus layer ....
Catching it is the hardest part. Try to prevent use net to catch it. Use big plastic bag, this method will prevent any unwanted damage. Any surgery do it in suitable size tub with some water in it. Thats how I do it.
Hey joe im worried if the arowana will damage its swim bladder due to all the logs in the aquarium Cause if i remember correctly buddy died due to the same cause in a 2000gallon aquarium
Maybe some day you should switch your camera to 55mm to show people how big these tanks really are. Sometimes when you show your big tanks the perspective is thrown off and that 8' tank looks like a 4' tank. It would be nice if they made a lens that could see a wide angle without the distortion
Amazing video Joey! 😃 It’s almost 1:30am here in the UK but I am so glad that I got the notification to watch this. I’m so enjoying this series and I am learning so much from this because before I got into your channel, I never really heard of Asian Arrawana’s but you’ve taught me so much and hopefully one day, I may even be lucky enough to keep one with full confidence and from the knowledge that you teach me. 😉
This is exactly why I love watching your videos Joey! (Apart from the cool fish I don't have the space to keep) you teach me so much! I definitely would have panicked and went straight to medication if that was my fish and now I know that it may not be necessary if that's what I'm seeing!
Wow I thought that tank was smaller! but the arowana really shows off how massive it is, and looks fantastic against the green plants. Definitely keep it this way!
Joey probably u hav forgot about those goldfishes that once u used to keep around 3years ago in that 8ft tank.....Please give us the update...Hit like if u want to see the update
Are you thinking of the Fluval Spec V that he set up for his daughter's bedroom a few years ago? That was shelved a year or so later; the light wasn't good enough for the plant growth to keep ahead of the algae, IIRC, and his daughter may have lost interest. He mentioned it was over during an hour-or-so-long video where he answered dozens of questions from viewers, but he didn't go into great detail, and there was never a follow up video unfortunately. Or are you thinking of the nano bonsai tank? I don't think I've ever seen beyond the initial setup, but haven't had the time to dig around for it, either...
@@annethornton9938 No. I'm talking about that nanocube he set up with some dwarf baby tears and a bonsai tree that he glued some moss on. And yes he never posted any update on that one. It was just the set up video. I think a lot of people can't afford things he's doing with huge tanks and super expensive monster fish anyway.
1) Text to speech captions are not a and some times it thinks there's a demonetizeable word so it sends a flag to UA-cam and UA-cam demonetizes the video. 2) Viewer input captions are being abused all over UA-cam (such as putting in totally incorrect subtitles and adding curse words and propaganda) So in order for there to be subtitles Joey either has to make them himself or pay someone he can trust to do so.
When fish keepers mention the sump as part of the system's capacity, ok yes that's all fine and dandy, however 500 gals of water is flowing through a 300 gal system but it doesn't change the room the fish has to swim in. Just always wonder if they're taking that into account.
Wait, so you have had arowana jump out before, and now one has done it again? You’d think people learn from mistakes, arowana are powerfull fish and a plastic cover wont keep them from jumping out.....
Not trying to say anything bad about what happened, just giving you my advice, but next time make sure you wet the towel with the aquarium water before putting the fish on it, having a dry towel effects the layer allot more then a wet one
@@kaseyadams5738 50/50, same goes for your hands, if your hands are not wet before you touch or handle a fish it can severely effect its layer as well.

He looks a lot more peaceful in that tank.
Maybe if you had soaked the towel before the op, it wouldn't have removed so much of slime layer....just a thought :)

If I could film my Asian Arowana I would. Thanks for inspiring me to get back into the hobby. I know you won't see this but thank you very much
If you ever put your fish in a towel for surgery, keep the towel wet.
With big fish, pump water through their mouth, out the gills, if you can.
