I watched many videos suggesting brute force to remove cartridge but you showed me that a little finesse makes it easy. No big wrenching needed. Empowering!
Quick tip if you have a stuck valve body. Remove the handle, remove the ring and replace the handle and use the handle to pull the valve body out. This was the only way to remove my 30+ year old valve body. Hope this helps someone.
My dad used to do this maintenance all the time, and I was pretty sure I could too. I don't know how long ago you posted this, but it gave me the confidence to try. And presto! My faucet no longer leaks. Delta also provide free replacement cartridges. Thank you!
You are welcome. My dad was a carpenter and built our house. He could fix or build anything. There were only 3 TV channels in those days and not much to do except hang around and watch him fix things around the house. Friends and relatives would stop by to ask for advice, construction was often the topic of conversation. I think I absorbed a lot! I remember him showing me how to mix up concrete in a wheel barrow when I was 5 years old.
Dang... You just made what has sounded like an 8 step complex process (most videos are for single handle faucets) into something straightforward and understandable, right down to the possible leaking cutoff valves under the sink. It also helped that you were demo.'ing on a dual handle much like mine. THANK YOU! WELL DONE!
Thanks for the compliment Jim. It's good to know that I accomplished what I was aiming to do. I do have another channel with many more repair videos: ua-cam.com/channels/UsfNTwfDV3Ry_CFHJ9BeKA.html
Thank God you showed me that little tab, which my bathroom Moen had. I was growing impatient trying to yank that cartridge out. That did it. Thanks bud -- a lot.
You are welcome, it's my pleasure to help. If the cartridges are installed for a long time, they can be tough to get out. If it's really stuck, you could treat it with PB Blaster penetrating oil, wait a few hours and try again. It has a really bad odor, though, you would want good ventilation... and also be careful none splashes in your eyes when removing it.
Your step-by-step instructions worked well. My particular Moen faucet had a slightly different kind of nut on the inside, and I did use a small hammer just to tap gently to get the screwdrivers pried up
@@Diane_R yes, it actually had moved out of slot b/c I didn't tighten enough. Tip: I used a little dish soap when I retightened--makes it stay in tight and right.
Thanks for the compliment, Don. Odds are good that if that type of shut off valve hasn't been turned for a long time, when you do they tend to start to drip. I thought it was a good idea to mention what to do when that happens. I did misidentify the type of valve, it's a globe valve.

I am finished!!, but the cartilage did not cause my leak, it was the actual spring beneath the cartilage. So I just changed both, thank you soo much for your time.
Good job on figuring out how to stop the leak. Some brands, (I think Delta) don't use a cartridge, they use a spring and seat that is under the "cartridge". I believe that Delta also has a lifetime warranty on parts for the original owner. Thanks for the kind words even though the video was not your exact set up.
If you know the model number, look on the manufacturers site for a parts diagram. You'll likely be able to see how to put it back together. Sometimes the model number is on the underside of the spout.

I doubt you can get that cartridge out with a screw driver. They make a puller you can buy or do as I did use a claw hammer and a block of wood to pull the cartridge out (putting the screw back into the cartridge to have something to pull against). When I did this the bottom of the cartridge broke free with its O-ring seated so I used a 3/8th inch lag screw to screw into the bottom hole of the cartridge bottom and pulled it out. Got the faucet together and then found out the diverter valve was hung up and couldn't get any flow except to the sprayer. So I had to remove the faucet and free up the diverter as shown in other videos.
I beg to politely disagree with you, Dan. The video is not staged as you suggest, you can see the water flow out as the cartridge pops out and you can see the debris. It's not fake or staged. With around 92 thousand views no one has complained that you can't remove the cartridge with a screwdriver except you. I've removed many cartridges as shown in the video. That's a good idea using the claw hammer if the cartridge is really stuck. Thanks for taking the time to add it to the comments.
@@Diane_R I could not get mine out with a screw driver (which I tried) - the cartridge would not even come out in one piece - it was really stuck in there. I think the faucet was about 10 yrs old and we do get a little rust in our water that may have helped seize up the cartridge. However with enough effort it can be gotten out. I have replaced several cartridges on different faucets over the years - the worst was a shower faucet for my daughter's home in Temecula which has a lot of calcium in their water - I had to drill that brass cartridge and get it out in pieces.
@@Diane_R I didn't mean to suggest that the video was staged - just that most people are going to find it a lot harder to pull that cartridge as that was my experience.
When you have stuck parts you might try treating the connection with PB Blaster penetrating oil. It smells really bad, you'll want to ventilate the area. Don't bother with WD-40... it doesn't work good for this purpose. I've even got a rusted bicycle seat post that was stuck in a frame by using PB Blaster.
How nice it is to find a plumbing video made by a woman. YAY! Thanks for that advice about the leak at the gate (or globe) valve. That's my kind of luck: fix one leak and generate several more. :) How do I find the Model # for my faucet? I have no idea which faucet it is - it was there when I bought the house. (I've checked ALL exposed surfaces and there is no identifying information anywhere.) Or - are the cartridges universal? (I can't be that fortunate.) Is it a good idea to replace both cartridges (while I'm at it)?
My father seemed to be able to fix anything. I grew up watching and sometimes helping him. The repairs rarely went badly. The positive experience gave me confidence to tackle my own repairs as an adult. Here is a link to a helpful web page on how to identify faucets: www.ehow.com/how_7186899_identify-faucet-brands.html As a last ditch effort, you could take a picture of the faucet and upload it to Google image. You may get lucky and find an image that matches your faucet & identifies it. I only replace the cartridge that is leaking. I will often buy two and keep one on hand. Sometimes the leak is caused by dirt inside the cartridge, if you flush it out it may stop leaking.

Wow, you are going to war. You might try some PB Blaster penetrating oil. They sell it at the big box hardware stores. It's my go to when something is stuck or corroded. Open windows or try to contain the smell with a plastic bag.
Charliee, hi, I’m sorry to hear your cartridge project is not going as planned but I’ve been in this scenario and my suggestion is to replace the faucet but that means you have to get underneath your sink with a sink wrench to loosen both nuts and un screw the water lines…..faucet cartridges should be removed and serviced ( lubed) long before they get difficult to turn or start to leak, its like the rings on your pistons in the engine of your car, thats why we were taught to change its oil…..put a new faucet set on I think you’ll be happier and kudos for trying….ms~~~
I do not have a video for that. So far, I haven't had to replace the sprayer. When the holes get gunked up with mineral deposits, I put some lemon juice in a small plastic baggie, the pull the sprayer out so it is in the sink. I use a rubber band to secure the bag around the sprayer head so the lemon juice is making contact with the holes. I soak for an hour or two then scrub the mineral deposits away with a soft tooth brush. There is a diverter in the center of the spout, which shuts the water off to the spout when the sprayer is used. I just got the parts to replace that from Moen and will likely make a video showing how to do that. It will be on my other channel which is called Know How Now.
