Metrotrails Wissahickon Watershed Weird Hike Loop
Metrotrails hike in the Wissahickon Watershed started at Stony Creek Sports Complex in Lansdale PA. The hike followed N Wales Road to the south, then to Cory Lane to a path leading to Rt 73, turned to the east and then through a cemetery. Next we went around Wentz Run Park, and then north and passed through lands of Montgomery County Community College. A short road walk from there led us to Crossways Preserve and then onto the Wissahickon Green Ribbon Trail, next to the Gwynedd Preserve, a bit more on the Green Ribbon and back to our cars via N Wales Road.

Thank you very much. To cut the 🎉chestnuts into two pieces is a very good advice I recommend to do one with 60 and a second with 90 seconds to see wich works best with your microwave. Greetings from Germany.
I was always put off chestnuts with the hassle of roasting them this was absolutely a game changer brilliant fast and easy 👏

I don't like processed cat food , kind of seems like processed human food Thank u for this video
Yep, I think there is a lesson for all of us here. If someone could put the best nutritious food in front of us and keep us from eating anything else, we would all be more healthy. Melvin's daily mission is to patrol the neighborhood in search of dry cat food (I call it cat crack) and sometimes he finds it. I know when that happens because he drinks water and turns away from the food I give him. The food scientists are designing pet and people food that is cheap and tastes great, though not so good for us. I just read an article stating the 63% of cats are obese. They too are becoming diabetic and having thyroid problems.
Such a gorgeous scenery my friend! These shots are amazing! Love it 👏👏
Thanks for the compliment. Next Sunday we will be north of New York City in New Jersey, near the New York State border.
You have a great eye. That scary tree among the Halloween decor 🍁🎃 Beautiful home & mini waterfalls. ⭐️
Thanks! Very helpful. I couldn't figure out how to release them so I just took off my boots and came home to google it. 🤣
My husband says we'll have to cut off the water to the house to do this because whoever installed it put it in wrong. They apparently put it in upside down with the cut off valve right below the tank instead of near the floor.
Thanks for the tip at the end about how to get in and out of.... my wife had no idea you could step in, and use the pole tip to turn the lever. She had been bending down and operating the latch every time... or actually I did it for her, lol. Thanks
You are welcome. Happy skiing!
nice video-thank you!!
You are welcome. I recently bought the next bigger size. I decided to not use cartridges and switched to carrying a small pump that I found that actually works pretty good. The bag was a tad too small for the new pump. I liked the original bag enough that I didn't hesitate to buy another one.
Pretty country. Used to go to the Hunt in Far Hills. Took the train from Gladstone recently 🚂🍁
Can't you just use sardines for the fish oil?
I can't give you an informed answer for that, I don't have any kind of education on cat nutrition. The recipe was developed by a pet nutritionist and a veterinarian. Maybe someone else who specializes in cat nutrition can answer.... anyone out there that can help with this question?
Very pretty country. 🍁🌞 love the JC mile marker
This is great! I am constantly looking for a new toys and wait for my kids to be entertained! I will definitely try this one. Thanks for sharing.😽
For sure, this is Melvin's favorite toy. He just came by and played with it a bit. Not all cats like it though, I got the first fish because my two of my brother's cats were not interested and the other was scared of the noise. Initially, Melvin was kind of angry at it while it's tail smacked him in the face lol! Then he got down to the business of beating it up. You might try putting the cat nip in it and keeping it turned off to introduce it if your cats are the timid type. Melvin has been fearless of the vacuum and lawn mowers too.
Thanks... very clear and short!😊❤🎉
You're welcome 😊
Such a beautiful day
Indeed it was. The light at the end of the day made for a couple of cool pictures. My favorite is the guy fishing from his boat.
Thanks for this! Did you shell the eggs before grinding?
Yes, I removed the shells.
Fantastic hike my friend! This looks and feels great!
Thanks for the compliment. Your videos are beautiful. Most of the hike was along the former Enola Low Grade railroad. It was built between 1903-1906. The stone craftsmanship of the culverts are standing up against the test of time. We did the usual distance of around 15 miles.
Ha! After lots of experimentation I ended up doing almost the same thing to cook and peel my chestnuts. It really is the easiest method! I roughly chop them up, dry them, and grind them in an old fashioned coffee grinder to make flour. The new blender type coffee grinder won't to the job.
Before the blight that attacked the American Chestnut Trees, chestnuts were a popular food choice. Apparently people ate a lot of chestnut flour. Every year I manage to forage some and have a treat.
Can I mix the paprika, pepper , garlic, and ginger at the same time as the brine and vegetables?
I usually add those items later because sometimes I have too much brine and have to pour some of it off. When the fermentation starts the brine expands.
@@Diane_R thank you. 🙏 I accidentally added together. My bowl is large so I think I’ll be okay so far:) next time I will be doing it differently
Ok so I picked my walnuts and removed the husks via running over them with the pickup truck. Worked well. But now I can’t rent a pressure washer until Monday. Is there anything I need to do with the messy nuts until then? Will it be too late?
I think you will be find until you can rent the pressure washer.
@@Diane_R 😅thank you
Do you need to put water in it if you are cooking meat? I just bought this and want to cook chicken breast in it (healthy with no oil) Thanks in advance for answering
I usually don't put any water in the crock if cooking meat. Chicken breasts are lean, for those you might want to add a little water or if you have it, chicken broth. Don't over cook them.
Why do you cook the livers?
I sourced the recipe from a vet/pet food nutritionist. I would presume that it is cooked to kill off bacteria.
Aren't you supposed to use cat design vitamins and supplements?? 😮
There are vitamins and the proper supplement in the recipe, maybe you didn't read the recipe or watch the entire video? The recipe is sourced from a vet and a pet nutritionist.
I like the idea of putting the chicken in the oven to remove any surface bacteria. Do you know how long I would put boneless chicken thighs in the oven for?
It's likely not much time difference. The ground up bones are essential to a cat's diet.
One of my cats cannot have ground bones due to kidney issues so I am supplementing eggshell
I love that you are blanching the meat to remove surface contaminants! That's what I plan to do. I recommend not adding Party Mix treats, though. In small print on the back of the Party Mix containers, it says not to exceed 10 treats per cat per day. There's something in those treats that cats shouldn't be getting too much of. I would try adding something else. One of my cats had a huge addiction to treats. (A different brand that didn't limit the number of treats.) I had to add treats to his regular food to get him to eat his food. I now grind up a pellet of freeze-dried raw rabbit or duck food and add that to his food. He's gobbling up his food and no longer asking for treats.
I am wary of the cat treats, though they were the only thing that worked to get Melvin to eat his new food. As you likely know, cats are stubborn creatures and simply will not eat if they decide what you put in front of them is not acceptable. If they don't eat for days it can cause a health crisis. What do recommend to do to get a cat to eat this food if they refuse?
@@Diane_R Yes, unlike us, cats shouldn't go for days without eating or drinking. I had this problem in the beginning. I had to give my cat Temptation treats just to get him to eat. Another option would have been to get him a feeding tube. Currently, I'm buying frozen meat, cooking it until it is medium-rare (I still don't feel comfortable giving him raw meat), adding "Z-Complete" freeze-dried pre-mix, and then "Dr Jones' Ultimate Feline Health Formula" as well as a prebiotic/probiotic/enzyme blend. It turns out that my cat loves "Dr Jones' Ultimate Feline Health Formula" even more than the freeze-dried pellet.
Thank you!
You're welcome!
The question is, why?
Likely some nostalgia. Back before the internet/TV, people had more time and would still have foraged or grown their own food. I had neighbors who hardly bought anything from a grocery store. There were shelves from floor to ceiling in the basement full of jarred vegetables from the garden. They even raised a steer which was butchered and shared with friends and neighbors. A lot of people remember cakes and cookies made with these nuts.
@@Diane_R I’ve got multiple black walnuts. We collect and trash. The toxins in BW kill other plants!
😩 ugh those halls are pure medicinal gold. Save those halls and make tinctures
Can I just use Smoked Paprika instead of regular paprika and chipotle? My wife doesn't like anything spicy. She considera even black pepper to be spicy 🫣
You can season it to your taste.
@@Diane_RHi Diane, I just made the mixture and now I'm waiting the to 4 hours before I remove excess water and add garlic and ginger . I see it says store for 3 - 4 weeks in a basement at about 65 degrees. I'm in Las Vegas and we don't have basements. Our house is set at 76 degrees . It's going to be between 100 - 102 everyday for the next week or so. Should I store it in the fridge 3 to 4 weeks to avoid all the mold ?
Your conditions are very different from mine. I suggest tasting a piece of the bok choy every day. In the video I suggest tasting the carrots, however, it they are not sliced super thin, they may not not get soft before the other vegetables are done. You'll notice that the bok choy will get softer every day. I prefer it to be a bit crunchy. I just made a batch and jarred it after 8 days. It's end of summer/beg of fall here and for sure it's been warmer than 65 degrees. I'd guess a week max for you. One other interesting tid bit. I have seasonal allergies in the spring. I have discovered that if I eat some of this every day for about a month before allergy season and during allergy season, I have almost no allergy symptoms. I've decided that eating a bit of this every day is a good thing.
@@Diane_RI'm basically making it for the medicinal properties in the liquid. My wife needs to use it on her gums. I just won't be able to have it in a 65 degree environment . I ended up putting it in the fridge before bed. I'm afraid of it being too warm and forming mold. If I see mold I will get grossed out and put it down the garbage disposal lol. You think it should take about a month in the fridge or will it not ferment being at that low of a temperature ?
I really don't have any idea of how long it will take in the fridge. I know that Korean's have special Kimchi refrigerators, though I have not idea of what temperature they are set at.
Great video! Do you think the liquid from Kimchi will work too? I can't seem to be able to find fermented vegetables here.
I'd give it a try, it's very similar to the fermented vegetables.
@@Diane_R I bought kimchi today but it was in a pouch and almost no liquid. You thing sauerkraut would work? Isn't it made from fermented cabbage ? I'm going to have to Google lol. Thank you for responding . My wife has lost one tooth and others are loose so I'm trying my best to help her. She's been to dentists so many times and I think they just do deep cleanings. Don't really seem interested in curing her . Probably looking to sell her dental implants to pay for his new in ground swimming pool🤦♂️
If you can find sauerkraut that is freshly made you can try it. Heating it up to put in a can it kills the good bacteria. I doubt that there is any live bacteria in the stuff you see in plastic bags in the refrigerated section of the grocery store. If you have a local farmers market you might find it there. I used to see Kimchi in my grocery store in a jar, but just like you I saw it in a plastic pouch. I am sorry to hear about your wife's experience. The downside of for profit medical care is that there isn't much interest in finding cures. The goal is to keep you coming back. I just switched to a new dentist because of being scammed. There are good people out there, you have to find them. My updated google review tells the story: I went to the same dentist for over 40 years. My retiring dentist recommended Dr. Shuttlesworth. I am very pleased with Dr. Shuttlesworth and his staff. It's 9/2024 and I am updating my review from 2020 which had been 5 stars. Dr. Shuttlesworth has retired and sold the practice. I think this occurred in early 2023. 5/2024 I went for my usual 6 month visit expecting the usual cleaning & check up. I was stunned to have the appointment spent measuring pockets between teeth and gums instead. I was scheduled for to two appointments and given an estimate for root planing and scaling. I was told this would be a regular thing. Xrays were also taken. At the end of the appointment, a new dentist, Dr. Amanda Klayum rolled in. She told me hurriedly that I would need two crowns. I left the office with 4 more appointments and an estimate for $2267. I might almost be a senior citizen, but I can still tell who the mark in the room might be and I thought it was me. I found another dentist and on 9/2024 he looked at the same xrays and said they look good. He also said there is not problem with my gums. Dr. Klayum was willing to blow away two perfectly good teeth and I could have pain and suffering from root planing/scaling for a mere $2267. I had to pay for a 2nd dental visit to confirm that this military veteran was getting scammed. Looking back, in 5/2023 I was told I need a crown to the tune of $1061. I am now questioning if this work needed to be done.
@@Diane_R I chose not to buy sauerkraut as it does not have garlic to work as a natural antibacterial rendering it somewhat useless. I found your recipe for the fermented vegetables. I have a ton of mason jars that will be put to use . I'm sorry about your dentist nightmares . Sadly most of the medical industry is nothing but a profiteering scam . If they cure you then you won't go back and visit them again. So aside from making your fermented veggie solution Im Going to try to find a periodontist with food reviews on Google for where we live . Thank you for your detailed responses to me 🙏
I just completed making my first screen complete from scratch. It is a lot longer than yours and after I finished making and installing it, I noticed it had bowed. The screen was on too tight. I have plenty of spare screen so will redo it using your book and 4 small bits of spline tips. Fantastic. Thank you.
Getting the correct tension on the screen is a bit of an art.
YES! Thank you for this.

Ironic they cant even get the picture color right on their web site.
Do you know if the FFHT models are quieter than FFTR? I recently bought a Frigidaire refrigerator to replace my 17 year old Whirlpool. One of the reasons I bought the Frigidaire is that my mom has an FFHT141425VW and she said it was very quiet. We bought the FFTR2045VW as we needed the size. It seems to work well but is somewhat noisy. The fridge registers 49 decibels on my sound meter app. I checked my mom's fridge, which is super quiet, and it registered at 39 decibels. Not sure if it's the model difference or size difference. I wish mine was that quiet. Fortunately, it doesn't run all day like some fridge owners have said.
I don't know if the FFHT model is quieter. I suppose you could look up the parts diagram and see if it's the same compressor/fan. My refrigerator rarely runs and my electric bill did go down after replacing the circa 1980's fridge. I do clean the coils every 6 months. It's a pain. So far I am pleased with this refrigerator. I've had no problems yet. We did hit our heads on the freezer handle a couple of times. You quickly learn not to stand up into it when you have the bottom door open.
@@Diane_R Thanks. A tech came to adjust the auto close on our door and stated that these refrigerators are not quiet and that there are some even louder. I asked why many of the positive reviews stated that it was quiet and he had no answer, other than, "what's quiet to one person may be loud to someone else." Other than that, the fridge seems pretty good. I may remove the back panel just to make sure nothing is lose or shifter during transport.
I'll ad the the room acoustics could make a difference too. Maybe something to absorb the sound might help. Mine is surrounded by 2 walls and cabinets, leaving only the front exposed. I'm sure that is a factor too. Lastly, it depends on how good your hearing is too.
Lovely hike man, place looks so enchanting and alluring!
Did she just say run them over with a car ???
Thank you so much. It’s so hard to find legitimate honest reviews on meat grinders. I’m glad I found this review.
Agreed, a lot of reviewers are taking some sort of compensation. I still like the grinder. It's been chugging away grinding up chicken thigh bones in spite of Lem recommending not to do so. It did struggle on whole bones, but I got smarter and used a cleaver to cut the bone in half. It make it much easier. I would not hesitate to buy another Lem product.
Great video
Thanks!
Excellent breakdown on this grinder. Thank you! Just starting research as I'd like to get a manual grinder\sausage stuffer. Very helpful!
I haven't tried the sausage stuffer option, so I can't speak for how good that works. I have been making cat food with it and have been grinding up chicken thighs and bones. Lem says not to grind up bones with this grinder, but it is holding up well. For sure the quality of the grinder is good.
Well described. Thank you.
You are welcome.
