Tennis fans are always prisoners of the moment. We're worse than fans of any other sport in this regard (other than maybe combat sports). Sinner is playing really well right now. Better than anyone at the moment. In the long run though, my money is firmly on Alcaraz to be the better overall player.

@@sandman1347 absolutely disagree with this. Main reason being their style of stroke play. Sinner is the more measured player, he has a lower chance of hitting winners, but higher chance of keeping the ball in play and wearing down opponents. Alcaraz takes more risks, going for big winners. Meaning his ceiling is maybe higher because when things go well, he will be unplayable. But when you consider an entire career, Sinner is more likely to be consistently playing good tennis and winning big matches, whereas Alcaraz is more likely to have some ups and downs. IMHO

@@aldobonaso3481 I can respect your opinion on this, however, what I think is far more likely is that Carlos will reign in his aggression with age and maturity and properly calibrate his risk/reward mechanism. I think Carlos does indeed have the higher ceiling and, as such, will eventually be the better overall player. Right now Sinner is more disciplined, more mature and is (somewhat surprisingly because Sinner was a late starter in tennis) more the finished product than Carlos.

There's a quiet reality to Sinner's defensive, horizontal play--it's effective but boring, much like that of Djokovic. Sinner should stick with what works, but he shouldn't be surprised if his fan base is never quite as big or loud as he thought it might be.

Do you know what he thinks or feels about his fan base? If he cared that much about it, he would play for the audience more. It is pretty easy to do that you know? But still, at every match he played, he has a strong support at the court. In Rotterdam, people supported him as much as local players. He is basically a hero in his country at 22. When he won AO, everybody (especially his fellow players) swarmed to him with congratulations. I think he is more surprised with the support he has and happy about it.

@@gugendir Sinner seems like a good guy, and he probably is happy with his level of support. My point was broader, and gets a bit to why Djokovic (and his fans) may show frustration sometimes at not being as admired as the other members of the Big Three, despite having won more major titles. If a player's primary strategy is to stay on the baseline and outlast the opponent, that is usually just not as interesting as a strategy involving taking some initiative once in a while. Sinner rarely takes the initiative, not only because he doesn't have to, but because he probably wouldn't do as well if he did.

You seem to decide that he will stay as the same player for the next 5-10 years when he isn’t even the same player as 6 months ago. I don’t even know how he will be at next year AO, good for you if you can guess his whole career already. And I don’t think there is any similarities between Jannik and Novak except some parts of their game. They cannot be more different personality wise, on court behaviors etc.and that can affect people’s perceptions. I just saw Holger Rune’s tweet to Jannik, congratulating him for Miami and how he inspires him. If you become an inspiration at 22, I think you are doing pretty well.

@@gugendir Sinner may change, but he will be changing from a very defensive base. Look at the Miami Open statistics. For the top-4 seeds + Dimitrov, Sinner averaged the fewest net approaches, at 10.3. Alcaraz, who is younger than Sinner and thus has had less time to "change/develop," averaged 21.5. It is highly unlikely that Sinner will change his style of play to close this gap, no matter how long he plays. I don’t care about personalities that much, except insofar as they affect styles of play. Sinner seems like a good guy, but he rarely takes the initiative in points, because he doesn’t have to. Sinner is clutch, I.e. his game level rises proportionally to the importance of the point. Could you comment on how quickly he hits the ball? It seems that opponents get overwhelmed by how quickly (on the rise) he hits the ball (similar to Federer) and combined with his power, the balls arrive at warp speed all the time.

way too early to say sinner will be no1 heading into us open. He was the most under rated player on tour now people might be getting carried away. i cant see him winning RG, so wimby will be key. 1300 points is 1 poor showing at a major/one major victory. don't write novak/alcaraz off.

Sinner probably won’t make n.1 don’t get me wrong. He is incredible . But clay is really not in his wheel house. And there is every chance Djokovic takes RG and tournaments in the run up to it.

Sinner is basically guaranteed to do better in the clay season than he did last year and that is all he needs to catch up to Djokovic.
Sinner has troubled the best clay court players on clay, he can get to finals and semifinals and win titles on clay.
Sinner was also injured in some of the clay season last year.
