Gill, this specific review should be aired on every channel as the most fair, respectful, and precise (perfect because it is error-free) analysis without the slightest exaggeration or bias. Even the most established tennis pundits couldn't say it like you. Stay true and fearless, Gill. Pure genius!
I remember a match from the '80s... it was AO, and it was John McEnroe vs Boba Zivojinovic (first actual Serbian tennis superstar from the '80s). Zivojinovic was well known for his killer service, at that time, and JohnnyMac...well, we all know what he was well known for, at those times. At one point during the match, where Zivojinovic was killing Johnny Mac, Johnny got frustrated so much, he kept arguing with the umpire constantly. It was constant pressure to the umpire up until one moment where it lasted for quite some time... and while Johnny was doing his stuff arguing endlessly with the umpire, Zivojinovic set down on his chair and took a huuuge beef sandwich, and started eating it like he'll never eat again. He never complained about how Johnny interrupted his winning strike... about how disgraceful was his behavior on the court, about how he should have been defaulted for his behavior (and if you are interested, you can find that specific moment here on YT, ... oh boy, it was funny to watch), but no... he set on his chair and started eating a beef sandwich, like nothing on earth is happening around him. Of course, Zivojinovic won, and Johnny Mac stayed pissed off. Moral of the story, when you are a pro tennis player, you go on the court and play! You don't look what the opponent does, you don't hear the public, you just play your game! Today, both of them (for their behavior) were not pro tennis players! They were amateur league players, although the level of tennis was quite high, they, both of them, were like two schoolboys measuring their ... you know what... to see who has a bigger one. Well, having bigger (you know what) can be impressive, but in the kindergarten... it's useless!
nailed it. if you are mentally tough, you are unflappable. this match was very telling about how mentally weak ST is. (We all know both guys are mentally weak, but this match really showed ST's true colors as well.)
Apart from the ball hit to the crowd and low key hitting the ball at Kyrgios a couple of times, Tsitsipas was not in the wrong. He was given a code violation for his wild return but Kyrgios was only given warnings for his abusive language and intimidating behaviour. Tsitsipas is not a good sportsman, but Kyrgios is not a good human being. He's selfish, arrogant, hypocritical and makes excuses for his bad behaviour. All signs of a bully. Agree with Gill on this one.
I have such a love/hate relationship with watching Kyrgios. He is SO talented, but it's like he won't ever fully apply himself so he can always fall back on blaming everything else for a loss. But, he also plays some really lovely stuff and if he didn't self-sabotage so often he definitely could have won titles by now. If he keeps his head, he has a chance. Tsitsipas really should know by now to block him out - the best way to deal with Nick is stonewall him and just focus on yourself. Easier said than done!
Kyrgios plays tennis for fun, he clearly enjoys it. But he doesn't really care about trophies and such like that. Some people are like that, they are not in it to be hall of famers and we must accept it.
@@mufasasdaughter4831 I get that, but I swear I've heard Kyrgios say he doesn't particularly 'love' tennis - he does it because he's good at it and makes money.
Titsipas DID hit a man on the neck after the ball rebounded off the board. So Titsipas should have been sent off the court. .. but according to the rules blood must be drawn or choking before it’s an offence.
perfect description of what happened: disappointed at Kyrgios as a human, Tsitsipas as a competitor. and the perfect word for Kyrgios: HYPOCRITE. he loves to get the crowd going and on his side, ostensibly for entertainment purposes. but when they turn against him, he is disgusted. a HYPOCRITE. a self-entitled juvenile brat, a socially narcissist hypocrite...
@nah 🖤 no, Tsitsipas is a human that Kyrgios will never be. but Gill Cross is correct. Tsitsipas admitted as much in his post-match conference. he allowed Kyrgios the bully to mess with his head. and he deliberately chose to lose points. Kyrgios is a DIRTY COMPTETITOR, but a competitor he is, using every trick in the book to derail his opponent. this is the reason why deep down he really hates Rafa Nadal; Nadal is able to switch him off, and that's what messes with Kyrgios' head...
Titsipas DID hit a man on the neck after the ball rebounded off the board. So Titsipas should have been sent off the court. .. but according to the rules blood must be drawn or choking before it’s an offence.
But why Nick was allowed to behave like that time after time? Bullying his opponent, berating the umpire telling what umpire should be doing, disrespectful to his opponent, umpire and the tournament???
Can't let antics of the opponent affect your play so much that you totally lose your way in a match. It is hard to do but the best players have learnt this skill.
@@emilychan105 And here lies the problem. Such behaviour should be "disqualified". I remember McEnroe's face when the umpire through in the white towel, it was priceless. He couldn't believe the match was over because of his "behaviour." Did it stop McEnroe's un-sportsman like behaviour - No, but it certainly curtailed it in future matches. So, a few more white towel throwing in matches and the 'Naughty' children will learn that their 'bad' behaviour has consequences.
Crazy ass match. Shud see how far Nick goes deep Rafa played lights out he played at a higher level today. Hope he slowly raises his level tonpeak at right time.
Great analysis. I think this match highlighted the glaring weaknesses in Tsitsipas's all round game. His return, his backhand, and a mentality where he winds himself up way too much. Nick took advantage of all of these things. The other players must know about those weaknesses too, and it will not doubt put a real ceiling on what Tsitsipas can achieve unless he can make real improvements.
Tsitipas used the return of serve very well. Nailing it straight through the middle of court and capitalizing on Kyrgios's lack of footwork as the match went on (fatigue). Drilling balls and volleys at Kyrgios was a shock. Tense match!
let's face it this match saved the bottom half of the draw and has created tremendous interest. Saint Nick is the hero here for saving the tournaments and increasing general interest in tennis while Tsitsipas's rages in dangerous behavior gets a total pass from Gill Gross et al whose big three sensibilities are shaken by Nick's classic McEnroesque bad behavior. Nick even was a gentleman compared to McEnroe.
It is disgusting, how professional tennis players have been allowed to get away with this behaviour for such a long time. I think player dissent rules are long overdue, or if they already exist, they should be exercised more frequently.
I thought the same, ...the umpire makes one mistake and Nick makes a massive drama out of it. Behaves like nobody is allowed to make mistakes, ....what a hypocrite! I felt sorry for his girlfriend, ...imagine she says one wrong word or breaks a glass at the table or something, ....and Nick just goes totally nuts. 🤪
@@jonbonesmahomes7472 Yeah but Karlovic is a completely different type of player compared to Tsitsipas, he is so much taller, far more immobile, less talented with his strokes etc, if anything he was physically incapable of consistently hitting top level backhand drives, owing to how tall he was and his slow movement. Tstitsipas on the other hand doesn't really have such obstructions.
@@bloat1235 Thats true but Tsitsipas struggles with his backhands for year now already .. It hasnt been an issue now in last few months.. That means he simply cannot improve it to the level he would be satisfied with..
@@jonbonesmahomes7472 it's very frustrating because what he struggles with is a very basic shot, especially for a one hander. The slice backhand is page 1 of the manual for one handers.
Tsitsipas hits a spectator by smashing the ball while looking in that direction. And no disqualification. Djokovic would get a death sentence for that. I am not a Kyrgios fan, but he was right - double standards were applied yesterday: Tsitsipas should have been disqualified immediately. For those saying that Djokovic hit a ling judge, while Tsitsipas hit a spectator - it does not matter. The rule does not differentiate between different "classes" of people on the court. Also it does not matter that Tsitsipas hit the spectator from the ricochet ball (the ball hits the wall, the bounces back and hits the man in the back of his head). It is a hit, and he should have been disqualified immediately.
Whether or not it hits anyone, belting balls out of play should he immediate disqualification. There was an umpire that almost lost their eye because Shapo belted a ball in anger. Also I think bashing rackets, throwing rackets near people should also result is disqualification. Ball kids could be intimidated or hit.
@@Cristobal512 That's a hit. There is no explanation in the rules, which says: if the ball ricochets and then hits the spectator, then player will not be disqualification.
I don't think he hit the guy even on the slow motion reply it's hard to say for definite and to expect the umpire to default him when it's that ambiguous is asking a lot - if you're going to default someone you've got to be 100% certain...
Kyrios is much like what McEnroe was. As much as they go a bit far some times with their behaviour, they are extremely talented and just can't handle the pressure they put on themselves. Kyrios knows he can beat anyone at his best, and he has proven that. When he decides to focus on a tournament, he behaves very well when winning (eg his Round 2 match). When he's on the brink of losing, his mental fight between a realistic belief he can win vs the reality of things not working out that way (eg his level has dropped off), he then slips into that poor behaviour. But remember, he prefers the team aspect of sport (he loved the Rod Laver Cup, playing doubles and he loves basketball), and when he's out their on the singles court, then he is his own worst enemy so to speak. I hope he can hold back on his behaviour and win this slam. It's probably his best chance. On the other hand, I'd also like to see De Minaur win also but he has more time to get there. Yes, I am an aussie, so even Kubler getting through would be a great story! However, I would also love to see Nadal win and go for the year slam. These guys are all in the bottom half of the draw unfortunately!
@Secret Wars - Michael Jordan vids channel I guess you are right, it's not the talent that's the difference, it's the new brat's being a complete loser.
@@aranighosh3945 maybe so, but Kyrgios has wasted his talent and could have at least won a slam or 2 if he applied himself. McEnroe definitely got better value from his talent and was a champion at serve & volley and a smart player for sure. At least he got rewarded with multiple slam wins in his career
Drama is a huge part of Kyrgios’ gameplan. He knows it messes his opponent’s focus and mindset. And he uses that to do his killer moves. My question is if he has been too much for the sports (Nick doing Nick things), when do we say that he is being too much? Judging by the presscon after this match, clearly Stef failed in realizing that he is an opponent and not someone who can control Kyrgios’ behavior. He admittedly said that he target to hit Kyrgios in the body to stop him from his tactics - he keeps talking and abusing everyone (him and staff in that game) during the entire match. Stef might be in denial, but clearly Kyrgios is in his head and trigger him to lose focus. It worked and now they are throwing trash talk to each other. Stef has to remember that Kyrgios does not respect him. He was not a buddy or someone he can count as one of his “peers” in the tour. They used to have an OK “mate”-ship, but only when it serves Kyrgios. Carper Ruud has been thru shitty exchange before, and Casper was smart enough to stop engaging because it’ll be an endless, nonsense drama.
the 4-1 is not reflective , all their games are 2017-2018 etc when Tsitsipas was 18-19 and Kyrgios 23-24 or so. The games of late are 2-1 , and the 2 losses are on grass where Tsitsipas is now building his game on grass. Not only because of the big issues he has which show on grass and he is building to fix, but also because grass was during past years either Covid period, or period he had issues with press in Greece or abroad or other outside court focus. This is first year he starts to look at grass.
Just to clarify and sorry if that sounds arrogand, Nick said he was a top 5 player on grass (not top 10), and he can be critizised for that as he's never reached a semifinal on wimbledon (top 4), he's reached quarterfinals two times (that's top 8)
The ball bounce from the wall and hit the spectator at the back of his head. You can tell because the spectator didn't react until he moved his head because it hit him.
Underharm serving and the server playing at a fast pace are a legitimate part of the game whether it's Kyrgios doing it or Murray or Bublik or Federer. So I don't agree that those things make Kyrgios a horrible human. The other critiques are valid. As to why Tstipas lost, I think a big part of it is that his arrogance made him lose his temper. He lost his focus and composure because he thought Kyrgios was an inferior player who didn't respect him enough. That's why he risked hitting balls into the stand in fits of rage. That's why he literally hit the ball long trying to pummel Kyrgios at net (it's a totally legitimate and sometimes savvy play to try to hit the ball at someone at net, but not if you aren't even paying attention to keeping it in the court). And that's why those service errors came in bunches. Because Tstipas was enraged at losing to someone he thought of as inferior. Tstsipas needs to start seeing a sports psychologist if he wants to live up to his potential. As to Kyrgios, we know living up to his potential isn't that important to him. If he's content permanently being the dangerous floater in the draw everyone should be terrified of playing and occasionally making a deep run, that's fine. Not every player has to be dedicated to being the absolutely best that they can be. Frankly, some players like Monfils were probably better for the sport before they tried to play a more winning, but less fun brand of tennis. But Kyrgios shouldn't take out his anger by insulting the linespeople.
Gill, you can't say hitting a ball full pelt into a crowd of people, missing the head of a spectator by 2 inches is the mark of a 'bad competitor.' That was 100x worse than any of Nick's antics. Stef very nearly caused injury to a crowd member. Nick said a few choice words to the umpire, and I feel he had every right to question why Stef wasn't defaulted. Are we basing defaults off whether a crowd member has good reflexes now?
Applause, Gill great analysis as usual. Kyrgios is like the Dennis Rodman of tennis. Tsitipas needs to grow up. He is poor loser. The best response to Nick’s antics is just to not react and beat him.
Is this a street hustle or a professional sport in it’s supposedly elite centre? Why should anyone expect or tolerate any antics from anyone?? Why is this walking hypocrite of a man child even allowed to step on the court and cause a ruckus?? This bozo first talks about big things and then berates a line judge for having no fans. Gets away with constantly throwing jibes and insulting every official on court, causes disruption during opponent’s service games and spits on spectators.
Tsitsipas is one mama boy. After every loss he is going to trash opponents. Nick can'nt shut he's mouth, but he never trashes opponents without a reason.
@@adinfinitum1879 cause he already does that on the court where it matters….granted that Tsitsi in Medvedev’s words is ‘a little kid who doesn’t know how to fight’ and needs to toughen up mentally if he wants to win Slams.
It's a growth experience. When playing someone like Nick, see his antics as humorous, silly, and a time you get to breathe and regroup. I know it's easier said than done, but turn your back to the antics and use the time for breathing and centering.
It was a great match but the Umpire should've issued warnings to the players earlier. A line must be drawn. Entertainment and drama should only be allowed to go so far. If not, it can become dangerous and create a dangerous precedent.
I actually think Tsitsipas’s actions were significantly worse…there’s a difference between being a total a**hole (Kyrgios) and putting spectators at risk of physical harm (Tsitsipas). And it’s absurd to me that there was basically no punishment for Tsitsipas drilling that first ball into the stands. The rule is stupid. Drilling a ball into the stands should absolutely result in a default, regardless of whether the player is lucky enough to miss hitting a spectator or not. Lastly, this just underscores why Nadal/Djokovic have 42 combined slams and Kyrgios/Tsitsipas have 0…the former are mental gladiators and the latter are overgrown babies ruled by their emotions. Pathetic
You are wrong because for Tsitsipas it was only a bad moment , not a whole bad behavior. I agree that he put spectators at risk and shouldn't continue, these mistakes are unacceptable . Kyrgios is uneducated and a bad character indeed. Too pity because he is a great talent for tennis.
Exactly. It bounced off the wall and hit the fan while still moving pretty quickly. That deserved to be brought up here. I do see Nick’s obvious concern with that part of this.
Hi Gill, Just out of curiosity. Why do you say that you "roll your eyes" when people say that Nick Kyrgios is bad for the sport? It seems to me that Nick doesn't add much of anything to the sport (other than controversy.)
Look, i don’t condone Nick’s behavior. But, yikes. I’ve been a competitor my whole life. What Nick does is strictly NOT abuse. It’s annoying, it’s not model sportsmanship. But it’s grade-school. Like, handle it, and move on. He also gets fined… All. The. Time. He’s not doing anything with impunity.
@@EyeColorAnalyzerUnika Didn't realize he'd physically spit on anyone. I'd definitely say that's abuse for sure! If he just spit on the ground in someone's general direction though, then yeah, asshole, but not abuse. Linesperson comment, again, sticks and stones... it's not like he's in a long-term relationship with the linesperson, systematically gaslighting them... it's a stupid comment in the moment. So, linesperson, do your job, and hell, be harder on Nick with your calls as a result... The behavior I've witnessed of Nick seems to be far more self-destructive than abusive to anyone else.
I thought Kyrgios would win this one beforehand, given that he can get on to Stef's weak backhand quite well. Stef really walked into Nick's trap though. In the 70s, Connors would try and disrupt Bjorn Borg with similar tactics. Borg would simply turn his back. It seemed to irritate Connors more than it irritated Borg. Stef really needs to learn better emotional control. Nick knew exactly where that psychological weakness was and exploited it shamelessly, a la Connors. Both of them behaved disgracefully.
This is my observation - every time Kyrgios plays, in any Grand Slam tournament (I don’t know the lesser ones), there will always be drama. He always argues with the umpire, quarrels with his opponent, etc., etc. Just plain nasty fellow! And his filthy mouth, the words that come out from him, oh, oh, I can’t stand him at all! But Wimbledon keeps on putting his name in their list!!! Why? Because he draws crowds to every match??? Games at Wimbledon can be more fun without this Kyrgios around! This is just me expressing my views!
Kyrgios’s endless ranting and delaying tactics are just boring. The people that like him are not real tennis fans. He brings things down to gutter level with his constant swearing and belittling of staff. ‘Car crash’ TV it may be but it lowers the sport. Feel sorry for Tsitsipas which is a rare thing for me.
I've been a tennis fan all my life and love Nick. What's worse smashing a ball into a crowd of people very nearly causing injury, or ranting at an umpire? Stef behaved worse yesterday. And before you bring up Nick's previous behaviour, he has behaved appallingly in the past and rightly been reprimanded when he has. People brushing over Stef's atrocious conduct yesterday because Nick said a few bad words are just hypocrites.
@@Rossg2805 Utter nonsense. Nick is a pathetic lowlife. The fact he truly believes he’s entitled to his moronic whinging because he earns millions is playbook narcissism. Tsitsipas’ mistake was not punching him because Kyrgios really deserved it yesterday.
I have been watching Tennis for decades and would like to see kyrgios get a lifetime ban for his appalling and reprehensible attitude and behaviour. Lower than gutter level is what he represents !!
Love Kyrgios. Yes he is wrong for berating umpire Shld have lost points but he's great for the game. Nadal who I also like shld have been docked dozens of points in his career for the time between serves. Just because he doesn't rant and rave it is still irritating for players, fans etc he bends the rules all the time.
The way you made the distinction of Tsitsipas being the worst competitor, but Kyrgios the worst human being of the two was spot on. It seemed like Kyrgios's strategy was to get Tsitsipas to come down to his level and as soon as he saw Tsitsipas rattled Kyrgios became all business and straighted up as he took and kept the edge over Tsitsipas.
That was my reaction exactly. I am disgusted by both. Nick's behavior throughout the match just CAN NOT BE ACCEPTED. There should be line where player can not talk that much with referee(insultin like it's nothing). With Tsitsipas, I'm disapointed with the way he just lost nerves after second set. I've never seen such behaviour. And if it was only that ballin to stands, but no... He started to go for Nick really strong. It was really dissaponting. Yes.. People are getting on our nerves sometimes, but you just cannot lose your temper and start phisicly attack opponent.
Tsitsipas needs to learn to control his emotions. He was the same when struggling with Alcaraz in Barcelona. He kept trying to hit Alcaraz. That's narcissism. He needs a sports psychologist. I know because I am a psychologist. Humility is very useful to achieve As for Nick, he was more in control, even if he is an ass. As for tennis, Krygios and Alcaraz are playing the best tennis, by a distance. Really hard to see anyone defeat Nick.
Agreed on the psychology, but disagreed on the tennis. Kyrgios is always a dangerous opponent for anyone on grass, but he looked better than he actually is today due Tstsipas's poor returning. And Kyrgios is highly erratic in his play quality. I wouldn't be surprised if he loses one of the next two matches where I think he will be the favorite and would be shocked if he wins the title (possibly having to go through both Nadal and Djokovic).
As a professional, wouldn't you think that nick himself exhibit traits of overt narcissism? He needs supply, is grandiose. The supply from peoples reactions, the needs to become the protagonist whether a win or lost. He is also somewhat machiavellian in terms of social manipulation. Tsitsipas is not completely wrong about the cleverly disguised bullying.
You live in a parallel universe. Kyrgios is a playbook narcissist. He expects other players and umpires to put up with his pathetic behaviour because to use his own words ‘he earns millions’He even claimed there’s no need for him to apologise for spitting a spectator because he got fined…. Enough said.
You're a psychologist but you're excusing Kyrgio's toxic behavior? He was responsible for causing that circus of a match. He's abusive and an instigator who resorts to hinderances and toxic behavior on and off the court. It's a tactic he uses to rile himself up whenever he plays a top player that can challenge him. Tsitsipas didn't handle the circumstances well he should have just ignored and tuned him out and focused on winning. But can we really blame him for reacting? Hopefully Stef doesn't fall for it next time and I hope the umpires start to reign Kyrgios in cus it's getting tiresome (from a tennis fans perspective ofc).
@@dickiesdocos He was twice reported for swearing by line judges, plus made a more audbile obscenity when talking to the Umpire. So 3 potential warnings, that I recall. Had the Umpire adopted a zero tolerance approach initially he'd probably have shut up, not wanting to lose a point, game, be defaulted.
Tsitsipas has done a good job of making himself a villain throughout his young career so far. The long bathroom breaks when things aren't going his way. The cheating with his father during matches- no coaching allowed. The smashed ball into the crowd yesterday. It's adding up quickly for him. Used to like the guy but have just gotten so disappointed with him...not only for all of this but also the way he melted down in the 2021 FO final. Just not a guy i care too much for anymore.
I didn't see the match - just the highlights but looked like Nick was playing amazing, but the swearing the spitting, all of the antics that he and other players do - bashing rackets on the umpire's chair, chucking rackets near ballkids etc. All of that should be disqualification and even suspension, depending on the gravity. The umpire that almost lost his eye, for example. That should have been a 6 month suspension but the verbal stuff needs dealing with too. Penalty games would put a stop to Nick's antics. Nick seems to have big issues. His getting cross with the crowd is like Medvedev getting tetchy about the crowd and then painting a sob story. But Stef comes across as very spoilt and arrogant and has had other occurrences of tantrums like when he left the court mid set like with Alcaraz's match. Belting balls into the crowd is way out of line, whether or not it hits anyone. I am disgusted with both players, Stef should not put anyone in danger, and the tennis tour needs to end the nonsense with Kyrios (and others). I am surprised they have umpires willing to put up with that crap!
Tsitipas lost his temper several times, hitting both into the crowd and aiming twice at Kyrgios. But Kyrgios ironically never actually lost his temper, he just went into abuse mode at the umpire. Kyrgois's main complaint was that the umpire was bias against him because he received a code violation for "swearing" but Tsitipas received nothing (not even a warning) for the "far greater crime" of endangering the safety of spectators by smashing balls into the crowd. Swearing is nothing compared to endangering the physical wellbeing of kids and adults near the court. Kyrgios was right.
No he’s a hypocrite and an awful person, no idea why you’d want to idolize someone like that. Not saying tsitsipas was much better, but Kyrgios is just an example of how not to act as a human being imo.
Great comment of this match. Agree 100% with your opinion of both players. To me it seems that some of these top players are so ego-centric that they don’t care about their behavioral influence on young aspiring players.
Krygios is just a child. I have no interest in watching him because his childish behaviour completely cancels out any “good” tennis. I’m here to watch grown ups only.
stef has his antics but at least tsitsipas does show some kindness and humbleness from time to time kyrgios just bad mouths everyone complains and brags about fans and beating top players
'Disgusted with both of them'. Said with such vigour as well... I respect it. Not going to pretend I didn't find that disgusting behaviour highly entertaining, though...
“I am disgusted by both of them” is the comment of Wimbledon thus far, as far as I’m concerned 👏🙏🏻. Great distinction between Kyrgios as a human & Stef as a competitor. IMO Stef won’t ever transcend his psychological weaknesses until he creates boundaries with his enmeshed family.
Like it or not getting your opponent into the vortex of chaos is a really good strategy. I just trash talk lmao 🤣 but honestly John McEnroe hating on kyrgios was the most insufferable thing about that match
The constant talking, muttering to himself right before stef was serving is what annoyed me the most. If stef pulled that on Nick, nick would complain right away no doubt. When your opponent is serving you shut the hell up
I don't think either of them are disgusting. They are both great. Professional sport is tough and they are both tough guys. Tennis needs to toughen its image from the boring pin up boys of the past. Anyone who doesn't understand that is a fool.
If these kind of rivalries atract younger fans to the sport then its a good thing i think, sport and tennis are changing and fans as well, not neceserely in a good way but it is what it is, Tennis is no longer GENTLEMENS sport
I completely disagree with the 'Kyrgios is good for the sport' thing. Without even considering how he is a hypocrite and all that, it's just exhausting. It's uncomfortable to watch; I don't want to watch a match where one guy is whining and abusing everyone the whole time This is not good sports drama, this is not 'being a character'. Monfils is a character. Meddy, who has his issues, is a character. Gaston is a character. He's good for box office? sure, let's get a couple of players like him in the top 10 and see how it works day in day out. I would pay to see him once just to say I saw the show (and hope it's on one of the days where he feels up to it), and then I would avoid him like the plague. Tsitsipas was awful as well.
@@GillGross Yeah I guess, but I don't know if that non-tennis crowd is going to be, let's say permanent. And if the Kyrgios way becomes the normal way i know a lot of people like me would stop watching (and i'm not THAT old), it's just annoying and exhausting. I'm from a country that doesn't have tournaments, only 1 Challenger, so I have to fly over to see the high level pros and I cherish when i get that chance. I don't want to waste my money or my time on this circus. Congrats on your channel, I really enjoy it, have been watching for a while now.
I agree Let's not forget though of the two players one is 23 the other 27 One has been top 3 in the world the other never top 10 One has 9 titles including a masters 1000 and the tour finals the other only 6 and masters 1000s One has been to a GS final the other never past a quarter and not for 7 years So Nick can be as smug as he likes but I would argue he has more natural weapons than Steph and what's he accomplished?
I think i heard a commentator saying ' Nick steps in even on Stefs first serve because he has this short backswing that most players don't that's natural to him. ' Somewhere along those lines. I'm not sure if this is more correct or what Gill is saying he reads the toss is more correct, but it's interesting to note. Getting on behaviour, when i saw both post match interviews Stef is the nicer guy and he makes good point. But he still doesn't have an excuse for his behavior. But Nick's not nice and the winner at the end of the day. Good luck but I hope he takes Stefs point about arguing fruitlessly with the ref, which adds stoppages and focuses just on playing. But he wont. The crowd loves drama. And drama follows Nick. I just hope he doesn't run into a lower ranked player and starts losing on the scoreboard. That's what the crowds really after.
I watched the rest of this video. You have to give Gill a 10/10 for his call not just on the match, but Nick as a human and Stef as a competitor. Love it. And he hits the nail on the head. Very nice to listen too. And i always say sometimes Gill's talk on tennis is as good as watching the tennis. He captivate you or the tennis enthusiasts from start to finish. That's big thumbs up.
Yes, he bullies the opposition, the officials, his 'box, his opponent's box (!), the spectators and anyone available! I try to like you Nick, a fantastic player and I know you do good things at home, but then you let me down again! Stef you are right but you have to handle it!

Yeah, Gill is a tennis genius!
so enjoying an update every day by you Gill..& 100% correct take on both players!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!!!
@@abbiem5357 yeah and why not. Many of us do work for money and not necessarily for the love of the job.
I think the ball did hit a fan, after it rebounded of the wall, so in Kyrgios mind he should of been defaulted
The Umpire said that Tsitsipas could only be defaulted if he injured a Spectator.
Titsipas DID hit a man on the neck after the ball rebounded off the board. So Titsipas should have been sent off the court. .. but according to the rules blood must be drawn or choking before it’s an offence.
Totally agreed with you Gill.
Nick was so irritating while Tsitsipas got so rattled and totally lost it!
perfect description of what happened: disappointed at Kyrgios as a human, Tsitsipas as a competitor. and the perfect word for Kyrgios: HYPOCRITE. he loves to get the crowd going and on his side, ostensibly for entertainment purposes. but when they turn against him, he is disgusted. a HYPOCRITE. a self-entitled juvenile brat, a socially narcissist hypocrite...
@ Anthony sums up tstiatis quite nicely
@nah 🖤 no, Tsitsipas is a human that Kyrgios will never be. but Gill Cross is correct. Tsitsipas admitted as much in his post-match conference. he allowed Kyrgios the bully to mess with his head. and he deliberately chose to lose points. Kyrgios is a DIRTY COMPTETITOR, but a competitor he is, using every trick in the book to derail his opponent. this is the reason why deep down he really hates Rafa Nadal; Nadal is able to switch him off, and that's what messes with Kyrgios' head...
@nah 🖤 the h2h is 6-3 in favor of Nadal.

@@Petal4822 sorry, you must be imagining things. that was not reported at all.
"Nick doing Nick things". I completely agree. Kyrgios plays every single match that way. Tstisipas should've been expecting it and done better.
Ya. And Nick was in control
This match exploited the real weaknesses in Tsitsipas's game, both technically and mentally.
A friend of mine uses the analogy "throwing their toys out of the pram" a lot, I think it's pretty fitting for what happened here today.
Crazy ass match. Shud see how far Nick goes deep
Rafa played lights out he played at a higher level today. Hope he slowly raises his level tonpeak at right time.
Dude the quality of your analysis is something else. Spot on!
Really wanted to hear you unload more on these two numpties but I'll take what I can get. Great analysis mate!
@@meles3740 So funny to ever compare this loser to Mac.
Tsitsipas's backhand return is a huge weakness
It is disgusting, how professional tennis players have been allowed to get away with this behaviour for such a long time. I think player dissent rules are long overdue, or if they already exist, they should be exercised more frequently.
I thought the same, ...the umpire makes one mistake and Nick makes a massive drama out of it. Behaves like nobody is allowed to make mistakes, ....what a hypocrite! I felt sorry for his girlfriend, ...imagine she says one wrong word or breaks a glass at the table or something, ....and Nick just goes totally nuts. 🤪
Tsitsipas has to learn from Evans when it comes to bh slice.
I mean imagine stef with evans' slice, would have an easier time with a lot of matchups.
Imagine Karlović with decent backhand drive..
He would have been unplayable..
This kind of reasoning doesnt work..
Tstitsipas on the other hand doesn't really have such
obstructions.
@@bloat1235
Thats true but Tsitsipas struggles with his backhands for year now already ..
It hasnt been an issue now in last few months..
That means he simply cannot improve it to the level he would be satisfied with..
@@jonbonesmahomes7472 True, perhaps you're right.
He didn’t hit a spectator
The ball hit the wall and then bounced to hit the spectator's cheek
These guys are all in the bottom half of the draw unfortunately!
difference is that McEnroe is much more talented than Nick Kyrgios
@Secret Wars - Michael Jordan vids channel I guess you are right, it's not the talent that's the difference, it's the new brat's being a complete loser.
@@aranighosh3945 maybe so, but Kyrgios has wasted his talent and could have at least won a slam or 2 if he applied himself. McEnroe definitely got better value from his talent and was a champion at serve & volley and a smart player for sure. At least he got rewarded with multiple slam wins in his career
McEnroe wasn’t an uneducated lowlife. That’s the main difference.
@@martinpakura5439 Mac got better value for his talent simply because he had more talent.
I guarantee that if Carlos Ramos was umpiring, he would have NEVER allowed this situation to get THAT out of control!
Great review! Thanks for it!
Hi Gill, where do you find all these statistics?
The ball bounce from the wall and hit the spectator at the back of his head.
You can tell because the spectator didn't react until he moved his head because it hit him.
"Nick has a lot of character...
Issues."😂
He never said that the underhand serving and serving at a quick pace makes kyrgios a terrible human, you need to work on your listening skills
@@lcguerrerocovo lol
Gill, you can't say hitting a ball full pelt into a crowd of people, missing the head of a spectator by 2 inches is the mark of a 'bad competitor.'
That was 100x worse than any of Nick's antics. Stef very nearly caused injury to a crowd member. Nick said a few choice words to the umpire, and I feel he had every right to question why Stef wasn't defaulted. Are we basing defaults off whether a crowd member has good reflexes now?
Gill gross is in the house 🏘️...

I think the ball that tsitsipas hit ricocheted off the wall and hit a spectator. Great video!

It was a great match but the Umpire should've issued warnings to the players earlier. A line must be drawn. Entertainment and drama should only be allowed to go so far. If not, it can become dangerous and create a dangerous precedent.

Elite commentary
Awesome analysis Gill:). On both the match and the behaviour. Brilliantly stated bro!
great objective analysis as always
Pathetic
Great point about comparing with Nole and Djoko (include Federer as well, then we are 63-0!
Both players have to work on there mental game from different perspective
Gill , Great vid as always! Can you maybe talk about stefs backhand grip, for me it looks off but I don’t know exactly why?
Ball did hit the fan
The ball hit the spectator. It first hit the wall, then it bounced off to hit the spectator's cheek
Thumbs up for your explanation Gill!
Nick thinks because he has 'fans' he's free to abuse anyone for anything with impunity.

Love Kyrgios. Yes he is wrong for berating umpire
Shld have lost points but he's great for the game.
Gill, wonderful way to summarize that match. I too was disappointed in the two of them.
Thanks!
Absolutely agree with Gill’s analysis
Tsitsipas needs to learn to control his emotions. He was the same when struggling with Alcaraz in Barcelona. He kept trying to hit Alcaraz. That's narcissism. He needs a sports psychologist. I know because I am a psychologist. Humility is very useful to achieve
As for Nick, he was more in control, even if he is an ass.
I wouldn't be surprised if he loses one of the next two matches where I think he will be the favorite and would be shocked if he wins the title (possibly having to go through both Nadal and Djokovic).
bingo! Steph is the one with the real problem
Umpire should have given Kyrgios a point penalty early on! Tsistipas was reacting to his ''getting away with it'' ,again!!
A point penalty for what? He was given a code violation but seemed to stay within the rules for further punishment.
@@dickiesdocos He was twice reported for swearing by line judges, plus made a more audbile obscenity when talking to the Umpire. So 3 potential warnings, that I recall.
You sir, hit the head on the nail of how i feel about Tsitsipas now. He'll never win a slam. Like *EVER!!!*
Was the argument that Stef's ball hit someone in the crowd after rebounding off the wall? (Nick claimed he saw video of it!?!)
Thx!

IMO Stef won’t ever transcend his psychological weaknesses until he creates boundaries with his enmeshed family.
As always spot on Gill,
Like it or not getting your opponent into the vortex of chaos is a really good strategy. I just trash talk lmao 🤣 but honestly John McEnroe hating on kyrgios was the most insufferable thing about that match
I have a question Gill. On one of Nicks underarm serves, he doesn't even let go of the ball. Is that actually allowed, he played it out of his hand.
thoughts on agut vs tfoe?
Gil, you're a great broadcaster. Loving your channel. Thanks for the great content.
Fantastic commentary.
Thank you, its nice to hear someone with some brains.
Excellent
Beast mode Kyrgios
The constant talking, muttering to himself right before stef was serving is what annoyed me the most. If stef pulled that on Nick, nick would complain right away no doubt. When your opponent is serving you shut the hell up
Nick Kyrgios is the most Disrespectful player in Tennis History, and to see so many cheering it on is Sad to say the least...
Loser, lmao.
I don't think either of them are disgusting. They are both great. Professional sport is tough and they are both tough guys. Tennis needs to toughen its image from the boring pin up boys of the past. Anyone who doesn't understand that is a fool.
@@michaellincoln3739 finally found an open minded human being! so relieved....
Love the thumbnail
I agree, it's exhausting seeing him argue all the time, and he indeed is a hypocrite
The thing is, you're a big tennis fan. He gets non-tennis fans to watch. My texts yesterday reflected that.
I agree
Let's not forget though of the two players one is 23 the other 27
One has been top 3 in the world the other never top 10
One has 9 titles including a masters 1000 and the tour finals the other only 6 and masters 1000s
One has been to a GS final the other never past a quarter and not for 7 years
So Nick can be as smug as he likes but I would argue he has more natural weapons than Steph and what's he accomplished?
Brandon Nakashima handled Nick's serve pretty well, today.
Right, nick had 35 aces
Hi Mr.Gross I am doing research for a silly horoscope paper, could you tell me your solar star sign as well as your chinese animal sign? Thanks!!!
Kyrgois is a bully and it is true he has an evil side. Tsitsipas was not going to win but Kyrgois made the game so stressful.
@ George should you make the game easy for your opponent. Half the battle is mental.
Yes, he bullies the opposition, the officials, his 'box, his opponent's box (!), the spectators and anyone available! I try to like you Nick, a fantastic player and I know you do good things at home, but then you let me down again! Stef you are right but you have to handle it!
Circus aside, Nick easily could've won this in straight sets.
Could have DIDN'T .
I don’t mind - we probably haven’t had guys who hate each other since Connors v McEnroe
both players where terrible yesterday... feel bad for stef tho
