- The Spatz3 gastric balloon is the first and only fully adjustable gastric weight loss balloon. Approved by the FDA in October 2021, the Spatz balloon has several potential advantages over current intragastric balloons. These include the ability to down-adjust for balloon intolerance, and up-adjust to boost weight loss. The average weight loss in the US Spatz study was 15% of body weight, the most demonstrated by any gastric balloon to date.

Im actually in the process of getting it done. Your video made me much more comfortable.. I am currently 83 kilos due to underactive thyroid. I'm willing to be 65 kilos by the end of this 🤷🏽♀️ I have 3 children so the fact that it's reversible makes me comfortable. Lets see how this works out 🙆♀️

Would you recommend 6months or 1year ballon for someone who weights 88kg ?
Can you Scuba dive with a Spatz balloon, because of pressure?
I worry about intractable nausea with this and device migration as was seen it it’s predecessors. Does this new iteration solve some of those issues? This is why I’m leaning to ESG.
Nausea is absolutely a side effect of gastric balloons, and early removal is still necessary. From my experience, down-adjustment of the Spatz balloon 100% works to relieve persistent intolerance symptoms, which is an advance. But predicting intolerance ahead of time is nearly impossible. While ultimately the choice of procedure must be an individual one, ESG is overall easier to accommodate to, and there are no lingering symptoms. The weight loss is overall higher and more consistent as well. But for the right person, a balloon can still be remarkably helpful.

More cost as compared to the Allurion. Isnt this more invasive?
The Allurion balloon is not yet available the US, so I can't comment on the cost. As for invasiveness, the Spatz does require placement and remove via an endoscope, whereas Allurion is theoretically non-endoscopic unless an early removal is needed, or a complication occurs. The Spatz balloon has a longer dwell time (8 months in the US), compared to Allurion (4 months). The good news is that there are now many different, non-surgical weight loss options.
