I think it’s a great map and I love playing on it a lot, but whenever I pick Engineer on that map, be it on offense or defense, I have no *idea* where to place *any* of my buildings.
Figure out a way to be most efficient. Think about you're building placement. "Is this gun in range of that doorway?", "Can my gun be spammed out from that doorway?", "Is this gun locking down a crucial choke?", "Is it worth building here? How much Uber does that medic have?" etc., etc.

Same, when Im playing a class like scout or sniper and on a huge killstreak I think to myself “Wow my aim is on point today” then cant hit shit and die
I just can't get over how banging these thumbnails for the stock engineer series are, yeah, it's been 2 years (wow), but god dayumn; love the thumbnail art.
Honestly I always overlook stock weapons, due to the other weapons being more appealing for certain situations, using ranger for defensive and frontier for offensive (I don't have the panic attack and I can't aim well enough for widow). Because who needs normal shotgun when you have one that fixes buildings for less ammo or one that gets crits from kills? Of course I use other stock weapons because all the other weopon's downsides outweigh the stocks, such as most other flamethrowers having an airblast cost or most other wrenches not being as helpful for sentries. I'd just like to say, thank you for opening my eyes to the stock shotgun
I am not going to lie, I LOVE the shotgun, as you said, it is satisfying when you hear that bang and ding, I also love the Halo music, Keep your Awesome work up! I'm loving it
That point about letting go of your aim expectations is so good. Like for me, when I'm playing direct hit soldier, I'll miss all 4 rockets and die like a dumbass if a target is in my face and I'm trying to track him. But then an enemy soldier tries to bomb at me and I completely freak out and panic and accidentally kill him with a flick airshot while screaming in terror.
I've got a festivized plaid potshotter shotgun and i lost count of how many times ive just went total "Texan scout" during casual, its just so consistent and satisfying
The fact that made me want to play engineer wasn't because he could build buildings, it was because he was a man who uses a shotgun as their primary weapon and was not as slow as the soldier, pyro and heavy. Oh, and also because he's not a scout.
6:41 I think you might have develop that habit from the extremly large viewmodels the game has by default. Keeping your aim and chest level to reduce how much you have to move it will usually result in the shotgun taking a decent chunk of the screen. You used to use a custom animations thing that prevented that but they eventually aded the small viewmodels that everyone useses now. That's just my gess on how that came to be.
Uncle Dane makes so few videos that when one comes around it just fills me with dopamine head to toe! Hope you are doing good and wish you a relaxing summer. Or action packet summer. What flouts your boat :)
A good engineer with their sentry is like a Scout-Heavy Combo* where the Scout can heal the heavy and the heavy never misses but the scout is slow and the heavy can't move. *(with the level 3's rockets acting like a soldier occasionally backing them up) Pair that with the other buildings, The Life-saving dispenser and the game-winning teleporter, and it makes a Good Engineer almost like having an extra two players on the team. The average pub 'Engineer' however.... that's more like having half a Player.
Just want to say how much I appreciate the advice on aiming by just kinda chilling out and not paying attention as much, saw this video today, hopped into a game of pier and got 3rd as battle engine and could actually aim my shotgun shots and it felt amazing
I like using the mini sentry as an alarm of sorts. I usually just rove around, but when my sentry starts taking damage or shooting something I go right over
It’s like a sword and a shield. Yeah, you can use each individually, and one is most definitely more effective at causing harm, but together they become far more than they are individually. The sentry is a constant threat that draws fire and defends a location, and the shotgun is a surprisingly strong, short range hit-scan perfect for finishing off softened targets. Used alone, each is effective, but together they shine brightest.
dane's aim is so interesting, his cursor perfectly snaps to his target in a such a perfect way. the way he aims is so good I feels like some salty player spectating him would think he's cheating.
behold! 7:55 a second of Guts' theme from Berserk! I dub thee a man of culture and deem you deserving of a large amount of respect. Rest in peace, Kentaro Miura. Godspeed.
@@yashasgoel9019 No worries dude I am still just a bit frustrated that Dream got away scott free even with his behaviour. Also you forgot the O in "sorry".
I always run the shot gun on soldier. The shotgun lets you hit sweet one two combos, and doesn’t damage you at close range As therussianbadger once said “there is a range where rockets should *not* be used”
I've been trying to make more of a point of getting good with certain stock weapons like the stock grenade launcher and the shotgun is definitely a part of that. I think it always helps to master a stock weapon (that's not melee) so you don't always have to rely on sidegrades.
Our uncle's "flick to the floor between shots" is what I like to call The Bifocals. By pulling your crosshair "down" it doesn't "get in the way" of what you're looking at (whether that's a rational impulse or not, it's instinct). This forces you to take a brief moment to reassess where your target is going, what's going on around you, etc.
The TF2 specific tip for aiming with a shotgun I've found helpful is to just play Scout for a few full games at least; you HAVE to be real close and aim real solidly to be effective but you have the speed and mobility Engie lacks, so you have basically a little handicap for learning. So when you do decide to play the most fun role in TF2, the Battle Engie, you can take that exact same aiming style but add on the strategy you have to employ to make up for your loss in speed. Additionally, playing Scout a lot makes you understand how a Scout moves and thinks, so it gives you a bit of inside knowledge on how to fight a Scout when they inevitably rush you down.
Scout, in my opinion, is the best class to play to improve your aim. It's arguably one of, if not *the*, hardest class to aim with by default due to the fast play style. However, it does pay off on other classes once you get good at it.
7:10 I really hate this about myself I can hit 1/4 shot but when am in 1v1 or just you know mine-sentry or demonight aka thing will kill me fast if I didn't hit 1 shot on them my aim freakn sucks
An unusual question, but I want to know how you made the "splicing topographical map" visual at 2:43. Its looks amazing as a subtle background texture and Im curious as to how you made it, and if it was by accident or through experimentation.
Am I the only one that gets more kills as a shotgun engineer rather than a scout? I feel like enemies know what a good scout can do, with the ability to dodge and do high damage, but quite a few people underestimate the power of an engineer, so when they meet one without a sentry, they think that engineer is as vulnerable as a medic. Also, about the medic part, a good medic can bite back quite harder, especially with the 100% random crit chance ubersaw.
While I agree with Uncle Dane's view on just playing to improve your aim, this method will take longer than actually taking the time to create an aim improvement routine. Whether that involves 3rd party aim trainers or community aim train maps is up to you. The reason both Uncle Dane and LazyPurple say they play better when they feel more relaxed and don't think about their aim is because they are relying on their already present skill and honed aim mechanics. As a new or struggling player aim training is a must imo.
I think he's parroting what b4nny said about the aim trainer thing, I do not understand why else he would think he knows something on the subject of aim. Doing some sort of low pressure aim training is incredibly helpful for me currently. As an anecdote, I notice that currently, if I relax too much, I slip into my bad habits a lot. When trying to improve your aim, thinking about it and being very deliberate with your practice is incredibly important (like any other skill). Improving your aim is often about breaking bad habits and replacing them with new ones, and autopiloting doesn't really accomplish this.

I'd just like to say, thank you for opening my eyes to the stock shotgun
you go mister engie
Wasn't expecting the Halo music, love it.
I really thought that “wait what?” At 6:00 was gonna be about him taking a medkit while being healed
I've got a festivized plaid potshotter shotgun and i lost count of how many times ive just went total "Texan scout" during casual, its just so consistent and satisfying

7:30 That Soldier made me cry 😂😭💀💀
The fact that made me want to play engineer wasn't because he could build buildings, it was because he was a man who uses a shotgun as their primary weapon and was not as slow as the soldier, pyro and heavy. Oh, and also because he's not a scout.

This is one anime I would never skip the intro to
6:41 I think you might have develop that habit from the extremly large viewmodels the game has by default. Keeping your aim and chest level to reduce how much you have to move it will usually result in the shotgun taking a decent chunk of the screen. You used to use a custom animations thing that prevented that but they eventually aded the small viewmodels that everyone useses now. That's just my gess on how that came to be.
Crazy ol' man with a stock shotgun in hand.
Uncle Dane makes so few videos that when one comes around it just fills me with dopamine head to toe!
Hope you are doing good and wish you a relaxing summer. Or action packet summer. What flouts your boat :)

Did you ever *get* tf2?
“Because believe me, I totally will do that, but sometimes, I won’t.”
Why was that so badass
Cause he killed a scout, more atmospheric with the sounds and slow motion
Also, it's a reference to his song
I appreciate your use of the Guitar Hero version of Surrender.
Out of all the Uncle Dane vids this one has my favourite outro. Keep up the good work man!
For anyone else wondering where they heard the first background music before, spookston with if x in warthunder would be historically accurate.
What
all the background music here is from halo
Shadoenix i meant the very quiet background music from the main part of the video.
Yeah I thought so too. I stopped paying attention to the video for a sec and realized that I've heard this before.
A good engineer with their sentry is like a Scout-Heavy Combo* where the Scout can heal the heavy and the heavy never misses but the scout is slow and the heavy can't move.
*(with the level 3's rockets acting like a soldier occasionally backing them up)
Pair that with the other buildings, The Life-saving dispenser and the game-winning teleporter, and it makes a Good Engineer almost like having an extra two players on the team.
I love the stock used to be my favorite

Additionally, playing Scout a lot makes you understand how a Scout moves and thinks, so it gives you a bit of inside knowledge on how to fight a Scout when they inevitably rush you down.
yeah lol scout mge is like resistance training for battle engie
Scout, in my opinion, is the best class to play to improve your aim. It's arguably one of, if not *the*, hardest class to aim with by default due to the fast play style. However, it does pay off on other classes once you get good at it.
You game very well pardner!
3:40 i never thought i would see a phoon reference again, ty for the nostalgia, Uncle Dane
Its looks amazing as a subtle background texture and Im curious as to how you made it, and if it was by accident or through experimentation.
it was created by shounic, go look in the desc
as professional as the commentary here is i will admit that most of what brings me back to this video is the soldier ragdoll at 7:31
Am I the only one that gets more kills as a shotgun engineer rather than a scout? I feel like enemies know what a good scout can do, with the ability to dodge and do high damage, but quite a few people underestimate the power of an engineer, so when they meet one without a sentry, they think that engineer is as vulnerable as a medic.
Also, about the medic part, a good medic can bite back quite harder, especially with the 100% random crit chance ubersaw.

What a coincidence that you put this series up with this background music, as I was starting to get back into Halo myself!
