      Even /with/ the pick tools, it was rough for me getting that cap off. I worked at it for like 20 minutes straight, picking and clawing before it snapped and went flying.
      My diaphragm wasn't ripped, but I figured it'd be good preventative maintenance.

    Just subscribed! Very clear video and amazing quality. I plan to move from stage 2 mk5 (Manual) and get an mk6 (DSG) and go stage 3 with it. I am buying all the parts I want to change for the mk6 like, PCV Valve, timing chain, coil packs, spark plugs, etc. They said this is a common part to fail and seeing you install it gives me confidence I can easily do it on my own.

      @@CraftyWorkshopBuilds Nice!!! That's amazing!!! When I first get it I'll go stage 2 but within a year I'm definitely going big turbo on it with an LSD with meth kit. If I can push 400 to 450whp on stock DSG and motor I'll be very happy. I wouldn't need anymore power than that. Since the power to weight ratio on these cars are amazing.

    My guy...Thank you! Great informative video... . I'd tried to remove it with a flathead but it was much easier with the hook, like you suggested. My top cap was brittle and broke when I was prying it off, but as long as you don't break the bottom part, you're good...
    I have a lot of tools but didn't have a good hook set, so I went to good ol Amazon and ordered one of those, the PCV diaphragm, and a new air filter while I was at it. Your smart little dipstick trick gave me a good idea that this tiny part might be the cause of the error code P0507 I was getting...
    With the top cap off, I cleaned the build-up out, and noticed a clear rip in the thin stock diaphragm. It makes me wonder if all or most of the engine issues we've had with this vehicle relating to breathing and the Check Engine or EPC light isn't all tied to this flimsy OE part...Putting the new, more durable, part on was simple, but you want it to snap when it goes over the tabs. I used a rag and rubber mallet to lightly tap on the cap above the tabs to get it to snap into place easily...I also utilized the original, longer spring, like a lot of people suggest is the best route...
    With that job done in 10 minutes or so, I swapped the air filter out real quick, replaced the engine cover, and gave the car a start...
    On first start, the car stuttered a bit, idled roughly for about 30 seconds, then stalled out. I immediately restarted the car and the CE light was still on, but it seemed to be running a little smoother. After about 20 seconds or so, the RPM's dropped from 1100 to around 850 and held steady...I hooked up the diagnostic tool and had a reading that showed the same errors, P0507 and P2187. I cleared the codes and the light went out and the car was idling well. Took it for a quick spin and took another reading, and had no codes or lights illuminated on the dash. So that felt good...
    Time may show me otherwise, but it kinda looks like your video helped another man learn something, and save some cash! Much appreciated...

    • @CraftyWorkshopBuilds
      @CraftyWorkshopBuilds  2 роки тому +1

      Much respect! Yea, the pick tool was the best tool that I found to remove the cap without breaking it. The stock diaphragm is a common failure part, when it fails it causes other problems as well. Hopefully your CEL stays off, let me know how it runs after a couple days. I'm happy I was able to help, thanks for watching.

    The best way to remove the pcv cover is push a flat head screw driver in between the cap & housing towards the tab & the plastic will pop over the tab. Just make sure you line it up with the tab & do not pry at the plastic because it will mess up the housing.
