Hey guys! This is my new channel where I go over strictly gta online content: youtube.com/@giggity280 If you’re interested in gta online, please go check it out!!
The engine did actually change a little bit from the mk5 to the MK6. It went from a 2.0T FSI to a 2.0T TSI which was a revised version of the previous engine. Higher flowing fuel pump, injectors, and went from a timing belt to a timing chain design 👍
But. On the edition 35 mk6 they put the golf 6R/S3 T FSI engine but detune it from software although it carries the same k04 and forged internals. With just a remap on the edition 35 you got yourself something similar in power with the mk7R but having FWD and being lighter it’s more agile and faster.
@@thf1403it’s not faster than an mk7R AT ALL. Mk6 GTI’s are great but have far more problems than the mk7Rs on top of being slower and much more complicated to tune. You can easily push 360 hp on a stock mk7R. Try to do that on an mk6 GTI and you will blow up anything and everything.
@@ittorasetsuxx8077 i was talking about the GTI EDITION 35 which has the s3 engine. Not the gti with the first gen ea888 engine. This one can hold 400 hp on stock internals. And yes. Belive me. A 300hp edition 35 is faster then a mk7 r from a roll.
@a1160757 The fsi/tsi CD angeover was still on mk5‘s: 2009+ got the tsi. I’m a former vw tech and mk5 enthusiast. No I don’t know EVERYTHING, but I do think the Mk6 in MY eyes is a very ugly duckling, almost as bad as the mk3 which I also greatly dislike.
I’m 15 and my parent just bought one of these with a six speed, super stoked to get my license in a couple months 😊 so grateful for my parents as well.
I have mk6 gti with K04 hybrid turbo upgrade, downpipe and intake. That car is really one little rocket. It handles 350+ HP without any issues, also fuel consumption is very good and regular maintanance is not so expensive. However it has some predictable reliability problems which could be fixed. For e.g. timing chain tensioner (update it from stock and there is no problems at all), intake manifold (flaps rod could fail and you need new manifold which could be expensive if you are trying to put OEM, but there is OEM suppliers which aren't that expensive, so that isnt big deal), some engines could experience balance shaft failure because of screens on oil passages (newer revision of balance shaft has bigger oil passage hole and it is less prone to failure. Balance shafts is not that expensive, but work on them is very difficult), injectors could stuck opened (you need to immediately turn of engine and best solution is to replace injectors with set of 4 new, also it is not so expensive, but if you drive with open injector, engine could be damaged). Every used car has some potential problems, so Mk6 GTI has also, but tuning potential is awesome and performance is very good especially when it is tuned. Also braking and handling is good with decent amount of ride comfort. I am using that car as daily for several years, overall I am very happy with them. With good maintanance it would last long.
I love my mk6 so I was super excited to see your video on em! Even though it isn't a bullet, I can find TONS of info on them and the community is super passionate about them. Overall it's been a great daily driver, and I enjoy the drive to and from campus. The cherry on top is that I can make it fast if I want to spend the time and money due to the absolutely insane after market and availability. But it's just a daily for now. The most I would do is a stage 1 tune as long as it's my only car.
Yeah I did full bolt ons , fmic , tune , but after 2 years isn't not enough, building it atm , going big turbo , je pistons , and methanol , it should be fun by the end of summer
A truly amazing video, for a family who will always know which car is always going to be loved. This is my fourth Mk6 and I don't see myself ever buying anything newer. I love this car! my current is sitting at 309Hp, not finished yet, and always looking for new ways to make her more power and me smile!
Mk.6 has beautiful proportions. The side profile especially is jaw-dropping for me, mainly because of how low the hood line is in relation to how high the roof line goes. Not to mention how the A pillars swoop up (from the hood to the roof). I want to give credit to all angles of the mk.6, as I appreciate the more curves to its body, compared to its older angular brothers, the mk.7 and mk.8 golf's. It's as timeless to me as the G35 Coupe is timeless for its perfect body proportions. I do have the mk.7.5 GTI, and I did own a G35 coupe before it, and honestly I do/would appreciate to be given the opportunity to be able to wake up, walk out the door and admire these cars and their spirit.
Yea, i got a MK6 GTD, lovin it. Even tho the Mk7 is better in many ways, the looks i would say is not one of it. It has the cool modern look, but i think the hood is too long compared to the rest of the car and also with this more blocky design it lost character compared to the MK6.
The only people who didnt know the R32 was 4motion musta been the same ones who didnt like the MKVs looks lol. Original owner here still enjoying MKV as much as I did the day I drove her off the lot late September 2006.
Best MK6 GTI video ever. I love it! Great job. I drive an MK6 2dr manual GTI (purchased new) and love every single reliable mile of driving. Currently with 113k miles and has cost me less than $500 in unexpected maintenance costs. IT IS RELIABLE. But, you need to maintain a GTI. If you don't regularly maintain a GTI it will fall apart. Otherwise, bulletproof.
i've heard a slightly different version, where the mk3 was an ok successor to the mk2, but the mk4 was hated for its extra weight, sloppy suspension and the 1.8t being quite boring to drive in stock form. The mk5 was just better than the mk4 in every way (expect looks in my opinion) and fixed all its issues. I own a stock mk4 and its not much of a hot hatch, the 150hp 1.8t is not a bad motor but its pretty damn slow for a 1250+kg car. I hate the stock suspension as its not very good at soaking up bumps, but at the same time the car has too much body roll and does not take corners very well. Even with only 150hp its quite limited by the suspension most of the time. A stock mk5 or even a mk3 gti would gap me both in a straight line and through any corner. With my plans for a rear sway bar, stiffer springs and and an extra 50hp my mk4 will be alot better, but even after all thats been done its basically gonna be like a stock mk5 that looks better🤣
I'm loving my mk6 GTI so far. The EA888 is such an easy to tune engine! I'm only on stage 1 and it feels like a different car already. I have a video on it too. The mk6 is more reliable than what people say as well. Just keep an eye out for the tensioner or get a 2013+ and you should be safe. The biggest complaint I have with the car is the lack of top end power. Coming off an 8th si, the way this car makes power is the opposite. I was used to revving out to 8300 in the SI but the GTI start to fall flat on it's face about 6000 rpm (right where the SI would begin to make its power) however, the GTI feels more powerful and being that It's tuned way faster. Not to mention the handling is very comparable to my 8th gen SI. The mk6 truly is an amazing do it all car when you also add its a hatchback. The shift feel is also really nice I should add
The power actually drops off before 6k with the stock turbo. I upgraded to a k04 to get more upper rpm power. 350hp is a blast with these cars especially with the DSG.
As others have mentioned, the mk6 GTI got a completely new engine the EA888 chain driven 2.0 turbo, vs the mk5's EA113 FSI belt-driven. The mk6R got a stronger version of the mk5's FSI engine with a k04 turbo. I own an APR k04 mk6 GTI autobahn Edition with DSG, and an mk6 Golf R and they are the best looking of the modern golfs in my opinion. They still have smooth curves that newer ones dont have anymore, with a simple yet well built interior.
hey mark, not sure if this would be very popular but a deep dive on the fiat 500 would be sick. I'm a big fan of weird little cars like that lol, and I think the 500 abarth rly goes unnoticed by most.
Bought a MK6 2012 Adidas Edition. Parts are cheap, tons of options to add or tweak. Not super hard to repair or change stuff on it. It looks awesome from the inside and outside. I love it.
There is a mistake in your video, the Mk5 and Mk6 GTI did not share the same motor. The motor from the Mk5 GTI was the EA113, which is a belt driven 2.0 liter. The motor from the Mk6 GTI was an EA888 Gen 1 motor, a chain driven 2.0 liter. The Mk6 Golf R, Mk6 GTI Edition 35 and the Mk5 GTI share the same motor, the standard Mk6 GTI motor is entirely different from them.
Just to add the R has a different motor than the mk6 gti. The GTI of this gen used a TSI Ea888, while the R used an upgraded version of the early mk5 motors, FSI EA113.

Hey Mark, could you please make a video on cars which are cheap but amazing for tight corners, like i am looking for a car which would perform well on high speeds on tight corners and i am sure it would make a great video. Thanks!
Owned my mk6 for about 3 years now and I’ve given up on it. I paid 10k for it and overall it’s spent half its life in and out of the shop. Only to have another issue every other month. I asked around and was told by many that the mk6 is a ticking time bomb and the engine is a money pit. I didn’t believe them till I got mine. Now I just let the thing sit there maybe I’ll junk it who knows
Interesting. I never thought of the mk5 as an ugly mistake. It was a new fresh start to save the GTI brand after the terrible mk4. But I guess opinions varies in different parts of the world. The mk6 was branded as 10% better and everyone was wondering why it was only made to be 10% better. As soon as the mk7 came along everyone sort of forgot about the mk6
In Europe at least, the general consensus is that the mk3 was a bit limp (not a proper gti) and the mk4 was better but still not great. But the mk5 was VW getting the GTI back to where it once was. This is the first time I’ve ever heard anyone say the mk5 was the bad GTI 😅 and actually the engine in the mk6 wasn’t that great with its dodgy timing chain issues. The did in fact change the engine 😅 the mk5 had an ea113 fsi and the mk5 had an ea888 tsi 😂 do your homework
Let me explain something to you Josh the unwise. Cars are not the same when built in different countries. In America, the MK5 is easily the least popular option of the whole line. You can find one under $1k if you look hard enough bc no one wants them. Do your homework
I disagree what you said people think people in usa and Europe thinks MK5/6 was the best people hate the 7/8 Im grabbing a mk6R and mk5 gti 4door in the future.
Hey I just became 18 and signed up for a driving school to get my license. I also work part time and thinking to buy Golf 6 or 7 GTI as a first car on my 19th age, the price is not really a problem but my question is; is golf GTI too much for a first car? Because i really love them and wonder when its okay to get one.
Nah i wouldn’t say it’s too much! You just have to drive carefully which is possible with mk6 gti. I have to admit that i like to floor the gas pedal more than i probably should😂but it is really easy to drive and wish i had mine as my first car! Glad i have it now haha
@@Chillbertti thanks for the tip, but im getting a polo as a starter because i dont trust myself and to save money, the gti is going to wait another year 🥹
You need to do some more research on your VW history. The 1st Golf to have AWD was a Mk2 Golf Syncro, then VW developed the Rallye Golf an AWD Super charged I4, next was the Mk3 A59 that didn’t go into production, then the Mk4 R32 AWD VR6 6sp manual only came in 4 colors and only 5k produced made in 04 for the States, then the Mk5 R32 made in 08 same as the Mk4 but different body and only came DSG in the States.

Mk6 had some issues wastegate timing chain belt tensioner other than that it was a great 🚙
Is this a sign to get a mk6?
Owned my mk6 for about 3 years now and I’ve given up on it. I paid 10k for it and overall it’s spent half its life in and out of the shop. Only to have another issue every other month. I asked around and was told by many that the mk6 is a ticking time bomb and the engine is a money pit. I didn’t believe them till I got mine. Now I just let the thing sit there maybe I’ll junk it who knows
Looks like you’ve bought an abused one or a lemon.. had mine for going on 6 months and only took it to the shop to get mods done lol
Just don’t get the sunroof I bought mine two years ago with 55k miles and a good warranty I’m going to upgrade to a mk7.5 here soon
Don’t think I didn’t notice the Skyrim ambient music
I will not sit here and take Frosted Flakes slander 😤
Mitsubishi Gallant pls
Noted man
I disagree what you said people think people in usa and Europe thinks MK5/6 was the best people hate the 7/8 Im grabbing a mk6R and mk5 gti 4door in the future.
Bro what do you mean you don't understand TPMS. I'm the first one to complain about too many sensors and technology but TPMS is literally just useful
Amy Schumer in a pt cruiser thanks for getting that in image in my head.
Love how you used Skyrim music as background music lmao

Is that Far Horizons from Skyrim playing in the background?
Bartoletti Mission
You are incorrect about MK6 R motor. It is not the same as MK6 with mods. It's an older EA113.
I just liked your video. 🎉
I wanna get a gti but I heard they have oil leaking issues can anyone confirm or deny this?
I like the mk5 more then the mk6 but I didn’t like all the plastic on it. Miss my r32 😢
I am absolutely loving my mk6 gti tho. Just came up on 90k miles installed a intake and down pipe. Deff a fun car
Mk5 is more reliable than Mk6. I love my Rabbit.
Shitting on my mk5 looks. Lolz, definitely love the spice the GTI brings though
I’m going to start living out of my GTI
Hey I just became 18 and signed up for a driving school to get my license. I also work part time and thinking to buy Golf 6 or 7 GTI as a first car on my 19th age, the price is not really a problem but my question is; is golf GTI too much for a first car? Because i really love them and wonder when its okay to get one.
Nah i wouldn’t say it’s too much! You just have to drive carefully which is possible with mk6 gti. I have to admit that i like to floor the gas pedal more than i probably should😂but it is really easy to drive and wish i had mine as my first car! Glad i have it now haha
@@Chillbertti thanks for the tip, but im getting a polo as a starter because i dont trust myself and to save money, the gti is going to wait another year 🥹
@@1NEPZ i had a polo as my first car aswell! It was a 98 model year shit box but still a fun car
@@Chillbertti I just got a golf for my first car, I don’t even trust myself driving alone but I already wanna modify it haha
I hate the style of the most recent GTi 😔😔
