    Some of you have pointed out that Exile Island is the one season I missed, agreed. Terry made it imperfect but it was close. All other seasons have 2 interruptions, therefore screwing up a non perfect pagonging or a last minute tribe swap ala All-Stars where the winner is from the other tribe.

The problem with Gabon is you are looking at swapped tribes where as with Vanuatu and One World. Gabon is the EXACT SAME as Vanuatu literally (without counting Randy) if I said to you i watched a season where there was a tribe swap 3 people from the same original tribe went home at the beginning of the merge then the winner came from that tribe is both those seasons.

    Eh, I love a good Pagonging every once in a while. You have to really appreciate the amount of self-discipline and strategic and physical skill it takes to utterly dominate another tribe (assuming it's not Fans vs Favorites). I consider Redemption Island a pure Pagonging. Matt was voted out of their tribe, so he no longer was part of their tribe post merge. In my opinion, whoever comes back into the game from Redemption Island doesn't belong to either tribe. They are basically a free agent, so Boston Rob got rid of the free agent and then Pagonged the other tribe. So it was as pure as possible with a RI twist.

    People think Pagongings are bad because it they think it means that players aren't actually playing the game, which isn't necessarily true.
    A Pagonging means that the players in the power position have done everything they need to, both socially and strategically, to keep their power position.

    Pagongings can be really entertaining at times, seeing the underdog go all the way to the end like in Vanuatu makes for great television. Similarly, when you have big characters like in Cook Islands and Heroes vs. Villains it can be enjoyable.
    When you see a one-man (or woman) show like in Borneo, Thailand, Palau, Redemption Island and One World though it can become a bit boring, but at least you can appreciate the winner for their dominance.

  • @justinrittenhouse3496
    @justinrittenhouse3496 3 роки тому +21

    Although the pagonging is a predictable strategy, I find it very entertaining and very effective. The genius behind it cannot be denied! It provides a common enemy for every player so it makes sense for everyone to stay together even when in the long run it might not be the best idea for some players. Very few things bring people together like a common enemy.

    This is why Marquesas was such an underrated season: because it was the first season to fail a Pagonging attempt.
    John Caroll of Rotu has all the power in the game at the Final 9: he had his alliance of four, plus Neleh and Pascal, and with that group of 6 it was clear Maraamu was screwed. But because of John’s own ego and cockiness, the 5 outsiders turned on the Rotu Four alliance and took them all out, making it the first season where the winner was sort of up in the air. It was also the first season where the final 2 was from two different tribes!

    We didn't have single Pagonging for 20 seasons, when in Survivor 44. The Tika 3 of Carson, Caroline and Yam yam, somehow navigated a 3 tribe merge. Where until the final 4 they didn't lose anyone, we almost had a three tribe pagong. I'll still count it since a Tika still won the season. Heidi making it to the end just made Yam yam win the game with no basically competition.

    What started to really annoy me about Palau that so many people are nowadays saying how bad the Ulong tribe was, while the truth is that it was Koror being strong. But the weakness and Strength was mostly on strategic level and teamplay.
    Yes, Ulong screwed many times on decision making and instead of cooperation they almost negated each other sometimes.
    But it was Koror work ethic and leadership that truly shined and destroyed Ulong tribe in a way we never seen before.
    Another point. Not sure if something can be considered to be an entry to this list, if the 'destroyer' tribe sole survivor wins the whole show 😀Truly women ended up being their own worst enemy on that season :-D

    So like I really love exact-words lies. But like. The trick to making exact words lies work is that your reveal of it has to highlight the things that shouldn't quite make sense. In Vanuatu, Jeff is like "Did I say anything that made you think you were merging?"
    And it's like yeah, Jeff. You DID say things that made them think they're merging. You gotta play it off more like "Oh, I see how you got the wrong idea from that, but I did say..."
    He should have played off the "Our merge went well" more like
    "Well, I'm glad it went well, that's exactly what we hoped for. That should mean that when we actually merge the tribes, it should be a pretty smooth transition."
    Then at the response be like
    "It sounds like I wasn't clear. I didn't give out new merch or a new name. And I DID say we were trying something new. We've done merges on every season. I didn't say you were merging. You're just sharing the beach."
    Like, the trick is to make the response not be "You son of a bitch" but "Awww, shit, that was clever!"

Like Boston Rob says it is a lot harder than it looks to control five other people and to make them all think they are going to the final three with him. Then when he started blinding people like Grant and Andrea it just made his game even more impressive. Rob made every single person on that tribe extremely comfortable that there was basically no fear of going home for any of them. Even though there was only six Ometepe and zero Zaps left. What about these three seasons?
    Survivor: All-Stars. You could say there was a pagonging even though the tribes were originally split into three tribes. After the merge, the plan was to eliminate all the original Mogo-Mogo members. But then Shi-Ann won immunity and that forced the original Chapera members to vote out Alicia. But then Shi-Ann was voted out the next vote and then the Chapera members had to turn on each other.
    Survivor: Exile Island. You could say there was a pagonging even though the tribes were originally split into four tribes (for 2 days). Once the merge hit, the Casya members eliminated three of the remaining La Mina members except for Terry because he kept winning immunity. When he finally lost, he was voted out.
    Survivor: Tocantins. After the merge, the three original Jalapao members with the help of Erin eliminated all the original Timbira members, but then voted out Taj before Erin.

If even one more person had gone out before him, then maybe, but I still count it as pure and perfect, because they did eliminate all of them as soon as they could, only deviating when they had no choice.

    You forgot All Stars, which was essentially a Pagonging but with the last boot being delayed a round due to an immunity win.
    Speaking of which, the common fan name for a sort of Pagonging but with a few breaks in between to eliminate outsiders within the majority is a Kucha-ing. Seasons with Kucha-ings:
    Australian Outback
    Africa
    Exile Island (technically a Pagonging with the last pick off delayed til Final 3 due to a ridiculous immunity run)

    I'm glad they swap tribes up when something like this happens now. It can be fun to watch for the first 2 weeks or so, but then it just becomes such an obvious snowball that it gets kind of lame. When one tribe is down 3-4 members against the other, you kind of know exactly how the challenges are gonna go. They have extra hands to make camp life much easier, and they can give some members of their tribe much needed breaks during the less important challenges. In the early seasons when they didn't give every contestant a plethora of medical checks and vitamins on a daily basis, sitting out your strongest during a reward challenge so they could carry in the immunity was a huge brain strat. Being able to save that energy for the more important challenge is lowkey unfair. It's not quite as prevalent anymore *because* of all the daily vitamins the players get to keep their energy up, but steamrolls still happen and I'm glad they swap it up now. It makes for a boring season usually.

    • @meredithwhite5790
      @meredithwhite5790 3 роки тому

      @@Lsaldana92 I don't think minority pagongs are the same as a majority pagonging. Because it is only possible by the majority tribe turning on each other and self-destructing. Those seasons are a lot more chaotic and unpredictable (except through the edit) and are usually fun to watch. The reason why pagongings are usually boring is because the season gets too predictable and people are too afraid to make a move and not enough people play to win.
