      They always say it’s amazing because they got the pack for free most times and if they criticize the pack too much they’ll get kicked out of ea gamechangers. I don’t trust their opinions anymore tbh. When they keep getting these packs for free they forget how expensive they are

    I'm a bit bummed that you can just solve the mystery in just a few hours and then there's no need to go back. At least in the Jungle Adventure game pack, there are reasons to go back to the rain forest to explore the different type of dungeon layout and discover another relic with unique powers. But I still kinda like the pack for its weirdness theme because that's why I like The Sims universe in the first place lol.

      Bearing in mind it's a Game Pack vs an Expansion Pack, I think what they have put together is more than reasonable. I'd like to see this kind of quest in the Jungle Pack.
      I wonder if they could design a dynamic quest system where you'd have a certain amount of replay ability.

    Sims 3 World Adventures gave you 3 towns and tons of different adventures that each took longer than an hour to complete, plus kung fu, playable mummies, snake charming, wine making, relic hunting, boulder smashing, and dungeon construction. Sims 4 Strangerville gives you *one* "town" with ONE adventure that only lasts an hour, and two "new" things Sims 3 actually had in base game (Laptops and Military Career). Talk about devolution. >.>

      EA did change their naming conventions so they could avoid comparisons, but look at price. Sims 4 Game Packs cost $20, just like Sims 3 Store Neighborhoods. You still get a larger town with more content from say Midnight Hollow than you get with Strangerville.

  • @bi0hazard921
    @bi0hazard921 5 років тому +718

    The biggest problem I have with the Sims four is that it’s all stuff we’ve had before. A example in the Sims three you could be in the military right off the bat but in order to get the military career or you have to spend $20 with this pack. It’s like they put little things that they know people want in these big Mundane packs

    • @TanyaOwens
      @TanyaOwens 5 років тому +35

      So, I'm going to verge from your opinion because tradition is nice, but it is ridiculous to have another version of the game and just create and resale all of the old stuff from the previous version. They should be doing new excited things that was never done in the sims before and try to find a way to continue some things from the past. For instance the base games should've come with seasons, generations/parenthood, toddler stuff, and pets, that should not be separate packs. And the Expansion and Game packs should be things that were never in the game before or enhanced ways to do things in the game. Get Together is brand new, that's fun. Strangerville is brand new, that's fun. But Outdoor Adventure is a poor tribute to Bon Voyage in sims 2 and Jungle Adventure is a watered down version to World Adventures in Sims 3 and it shows. Get Famous, with their new fame system amped up celebrities from sims 3 while toning down the annoying paparazzi, that is good. Get to Work is also done quite well, though a bit differently from Sims 3 and that is good.
      I want developers who keep the integrity of the game along with developers who are new and bring a fresh perspective, perhaps developers who have worked on other successful games who can bring better and enhanced game play. Some story progression/mysteries to solve, etc while keeping it sandbox

    It’s such a good idea, but executed so badly. They should have applied more of the Jungle Adventure method. Multiple aspirations and skills, collections, variants on play through... this is just, as you said, a new town with an hour and a half of new gameplay.

    • @ruiz1264
      @ruiz1264 5 років тому +26

      VS M Nah, they should’ve made it CREEPY StrangeTown was such a gold town in Sims 2 and in S2PSPP because it had a great story but they tainted it with Sims 4 vanilla quirky shit, there was a murderer, a military family, a clone of a rich woman(the real Bella Goth died in Sims 3 Lunar Lakes) and a dissapeared Garage Mechanic.
      Everything Sims 4 touches it turns to childish shit, in Sims 2 and Urbz the graphics could be shit or good but they were teasy and sexual af when flirting, they had real characteristics, in Sims 4 they don’t even touch their lips or show the cockiness of Sims 1-2.
      And I don’t want to complain about everything but if you want to pass Sims 4 as COMPLETE PG then don’t put this stuff in, because you’re ruining it for the original audience because of Sims 4's focus on younger audiences.
      And they have the platform, never did they have the level of detail to Sims, Houses and they decide to make it that pathetic and buzzfeed-y when it could attract to teen audience

    I hesitated on watching the ending of the vid, because I was contemplating buying this game, but now I’m definitely not. I was so hoping there were some ties to Strangetown. I don’t care about Stranger Things, and the fact that they basically copied that show really gets on my nerves. They could have done something really unique and cool with the Strangetown storyline and tied it in with Bella Goth. I feel like they really screwed up here, and chose to franchise on a super popular tv show rather than creating an interesting sim storyline. That’s literally the only reason I was excited for this pack was because I thought it had ties to Sims 2. Ugh- *sigh*

      What did you expect it's EA? I to wanted Strangertown to be in someway similar to Strangetown from 2, sadly I knew this would be the outcome. No missing Bella Goth, no aliens and remember all the interesting and weird families from Strangetown; Curious family, Specter family, Beaker family, Smith family? Also more on Bella Goth, her entire run in 4 is just a let down compared to 2. I was hoping with the inclusion of aliens, they would've added the storyline from 2, maybe after you've played long enough in the game, but nope. No more conspiracy theories on what happened to Bella, no Caliente sisters being part alien, just some bland sims with no back stories.

    Funny thing tho, I bought this package years ago when I was new to Sims 4 and had a hard time warming up to it because, in my heart, Sims 3 will always be the best for me. And I bought it mostly so I would have more stuff and more aspirations. But, I never actually played in the town itself. So I had no idea that it was an actual story to it. Until yesterday when I chose the town for the first time, and when I was introduced to the story, I realized that I could not play my original idea for this thing.
    However, the few minutes I actually experienced, made me very curious. So I just took the sim I had into a new gameplay, changed aspiration and some traits, and started it. And after finishing the story like, 20min ago, I gotta say, this was really fun! The story, the mystery, it was just so thrilling and I really enjoyed it. To be honest, after playing Sims 2, 3, and 4 for YEARS, this is my favorite pack they have ever made, mostly because of the story!
    It was like I didn't play The Sims anymore, but an adventure game! Don't get me wrong, I still think Sims 3 is the best series, but in package ways, Strangerville is the best one by far for me! I actually came here cuz I wanted to see what others thought of it, and since I didn't want any spoilers until I had finished it, I had to wait for it till now- and I have no regrets!

    I liked the direction this game pack took... more weirdness and good and evil stuff, and an attempt at a storyline... but, theres always something about the way EA makes stuff that always seems pretty "corporate" and "committee made" rather than made out of a passion for the game. I mean, I'm fairly certain I read somewhere that the people who make this game don't even necessarily play it... they just make it. That seems... wrong. You're creating art. You should be passionate about what you create instead of it just being "a job" because it very much shows in the quality of what you create.
    All in all... I am just highly reminded of that new episode of black mirror... bandersnach. If he chooses to work with the company to make the game, the game fails. But then if he goes off an makes it himself he goes crazy and kills his dad... so.... I guess thats something to worry about. Wouldn't want the maxis crew to go crazy and kill their dads.

      I think, for the better or the worse, the eventual sucessor of TS4 will need to follow a different concept. If the idea is to make a game with some better graphics, a new engine and some new features, while going back to the very basic barebones of content out of the box, then you'll have an hard time to convince yet again the TS players to come from a game they may have invested hundreds of bucks worth of extra content. Ideally, a new sucessor would necessarily have to feature OUT OF THE BOX a lot more content and address some very important problems of the current title, such as the limitations of the size of loaded maps (which nowadays tech should be perfectly able to load one map with no loading screens in between sections/homes). Still, we can't forget this is still distributed by EA, so those guys must have the devs under short leash to milk as much money out of a game that still sells, and invest the fewest on a possible new title).

Sims 2 DS is more about management though, where the PSP one has a story scenario about your car breaking down in a strange desert town, and unraveling the mystery of why zombies and ghosts are rising from the graves, and why an evil scientist is controlling other Sims.
      Really, the handheld Sims 2 games were just weird because even the GBA one had its own storyline about a weird paranormal TV show in a desert town lol.

      Jaylen, then you really can't truly comment on the game then. I was like you, I heard all of the bad press about TS4 and didn't purchase it when it first came out. But TS4 is so laggy and crashes so much, even with mods like overwrite, etc. The Sims team/Maxis did not fix what was broken in TS3 and the game is just not playable unless you play a limited number of EPs. Christmas 2018 I got TS4, Get to Work, Seasons and I discovered I like the game. The sims team made lots of enhancements and they do give a bit of free content with updates. So, purchase the base game at a discount, I even heard that it was free once once on Origin and make an informed decision. The best thing I like about TS4 is that building in TS4 is way better than in TS3 or TS2 and that alone makes me prefer it over the previous games. The fact that you can play all of the worlds you purchase is an upgrade. You can't do that in TS2 or TS3. So, don't just go by gripes and complaints or overly perky reviews, try it yourself.

      Right!!! I had sims 4 for like 2 months with all the expansions. I really TRIED to like it, it truly was just boring, I usually love exploring the town and going out on my sims games but just the fact that there is always a loading screen which is like 3-5 minutes for me... its just blegh. You end up just staying home to avoid loading screens. I also hate how cartoony ts4 is, even though it is beautiful but especially that 2d map. The emotions system is useless cause I play my own game and imagine how they feel by myself, it's also kinda buggy and wierd at times. Jus went back to ts3, only have 2 EPs and am having more fun than I ever did on ts4. Perioddttt

      @@TheYoutubaki IKR?! They are just giving us fewer content and overpricing it to milk the game. Sims 3 is by far the most complete sims game I have played. Even Sims 2 is far more enjoyable than Sims 4. The modding community is the only thing keeping it alive.

      @@CozyButtonz the replay value of the sims 3 is enormous as well. I have every expansion pack except for wa, showtime and ip, and I keep revisiting to create marvellous stories. I must have devoted at least 5000 hours of gameplay over the last 10 years, if not more. This year I discovered the modding capabilities and I revisited again. @@TheYoutubaki Same! Sadly I think the value of the sims is now going down the drain. Sims 4 is horrible. What makes people think Sims 5 will be any better. They are trying to cater more towards kids now instead of the old sims players. Sims 1, 2 and 3 are still the best games in the franchise. Hopefully EA will redeem themselves. Happy simming! 😁

    I can't imagine playing this neighborhood after "solving" the mystery. One improvement they could make though is turning off all the annoying popup messages asking your sim to join clubs or go on dates or such (assuming you have those related add-on packs). "No, I don't want to join a club in another town"

    Good review as always LGR, being a long time fan of the sims series like many others I just dont think there's anything at this point that will make me like the sims 4. And it's sad to say that after the 27th pack. Hopefully in the future sims games they will go back more toward the old ways.

    An aspiration just for this one neighborhood? Oh, come on EA. When are they going to understand that their style of pre-planning specific scenes and then building the entire gameplay around those is the main thing that makes The Sims 4 worse than its predecessors, where they just added to the rules of the world and let the simulation create the stories?

    Honestly compared to the other dlcs I'm rather fond of this. It completely changed up my gameplay and gave me something to do. Honestly with sims 4 being the way it is I find myself not leaving my home lot much. I don't know why maxis thanks it's a good idea to create these cool stories yet always hides them super hard or blocks you off by forcing you to either bring your whole family or split them off with a loading screen. At the end of the day the game is just fundamentally flawed. Otherwise I would have loved this in sims 3.

    SPOILER ALERT
    You missed one thing though. It adds a new death to the game: death by the mother plant. This can happen under two cases. if you attempt to fight the mother plant alone, you will fail and the game will warn you that she is too strong for you to fight alone. If you attempt to fight her again, you will..well.. get devoured by the mother plant. One more way is if you're fighting the mother plant with your friends and you lose, you and all of your friends will become possessed and you will again *surprise surprise* get devoured by the mother plant. i find this especially interesting and i think the death is kind of graphic. Anyways. Dont expect much of strangerville because its a game pack, not a expansion pack. sure, if it were an expansion pack it would have been better, but thats something else. Basically strangerville is as good as any game pack goes.
