- Tearing into a nasty first generation iMac G3 that had been long coated in rotted beer and who knows what else... it was gross - What should I do with the insides of this thing? After much cleaning of the outer casing and some glue my cat Augie has an epic little cat house
Couple mistakes made during this video - Right from the start I say its "Slot-loading" drive when it is the tray load, and the speakers in this first generation were also Harman Kardon ! Unscripted and many beers drank while recording the first disassembly :)

Idk about the life about the crt tho how long it has been on but i would only destroy it if it was a long runner

I saw your post on Facebook of the iMac cat house and it was the most adorable thing! I've been watching you since I was about 11 years old (I'm nearly 28 now for context) so it's different seeing you take one apart without the use of a sledgehammer or pickaxe haha. These things are notoriously difficult to disassemble without breaking any of the plastic clips, particularly around the display bezel, so I wouldn't feel too bad about it. They're incredibly brittle at the best of times and this one was clearly put through the wringer already. Love the content!

My unit was left in a humid place and still works like a champ
These old macs still work after taking a lot of abuse, like @ComputerClan 's Macintosh IIvx, horrible, yet still works.

my parents the blue one growing up. it couldnt play games so i got a repurposed dell pavilion. CRT screens arent to be slept on. if it werent for the weight and size they would still be relevant. just toss the case in the dishwasher to clean it

That’s not an iMac G3. It’s actually an iMac DV Lime, with a Power PC processor running at 400 MHz with 512 MB RAM.
Original OS:
Mac OS 8.6
Later OS:
Mac OS 9.0, 9.0.3 or 9.0.4
Maximum OS supported:
Mac OS X 10.3.9 (350 MHz) or 10.4.11 Tiger (400 MHz)
This is a tray loading iMac G3
The DV version was a slot loading
My iBook G3 “Snow” is has 500 MHz G3 in it and 256mb of Ram and it as Mac OS X 10.3.9 installed on it I went from Mac OS X 10.2.8 to 10.3.9
And your cat actually likes it, that's pretty good! If you ever put that computer on a network (not sure why) you could name it BEER.
For the iMac, you could try to overvolt the crt and see what happens to it.
I think it would be great to make a goofy case out of wood for the internals. Maybe add some big speakers in the case and throw music on it.

I had a similar one but grape and came with the keyboard and puck mouse, paid £20 but that was also in the dark, got it home and realised it had no logic board. Doh. Never mind, made my money back on the kb/mouse and turned the iMac into a cat bed. Win win!
