I Bought A Box Full Of JBL Bluetooth Speakers

- This interesting eBay auction caught my eye, A lot of JBL speakers listed as melted and broken, To my surprise some just worked out of the box and many others only need very basic repair
In this video I check out the haul of JBL speakers and figure out what the condition is of each unit, Some remain in line to be put in a blowout video as I originally intended for this lot. Today I get all the talking out of the way on the subject - Enjoy!
Garret please have a update on the JBL speakers.
Hmmm :P Well the stuff I had deemed good to smash or blow up I have put in a box for whenever I can make that project, I ended up with more stuff from this seller too
Some of the units in this video are actually store demo units! So all buttons but a few are useless and they can only be used with an AUX input, they were glued and screwed down to the shelf
@@GarretClaridgeMeerkat ok thanks
@@GarretClaridgeMeerkatand some the speaker have super power so just
So turn the speaker on as you know
And preess and hold the bluetooth and minus button for 10 Seconds until led flashes
The reason those flips you tried weren't making any noise is possibly because within the JBL app, you can turn off the feedback (power on/off/bt connect noises) so they don't make noises at you when they turn on
Imagine needing an app for a Bluetooth speaker that all you use for is to play music.
It's one more reason why I'd just rather build my own than buy an overpriced speaker that relies on an app in order to function
@RealEpikCartfrenYT you don't NEED the app, it's optional, the speaker works out of the box without it. On the newer speakers it offers an EQ, Features like I mentioned above, and occasionally a firmware update, none of which is required to use the speaker
@@RealEpikCartfrenYT Imagine making such a comment without doing a second of actual research.
It's one more reason why I'd rather not get angry as my first response to anything.
@@cfothough never owned a jbl so how should I even know in the first place? My Bluetooth speaker was one of those $5 things before it died.
@@RealEpikCartfrenYT I had my jbl boombox 1 for 5 years and only had the change the battery once and it’s never had an issue with software. Also they are really good if u buy multiple it’s like the apple ecosystem for Bluetooth speakers expensive but built to last
i remember watching you when i was like 10 years old, glad you are still making videos all these years later!
Yoo this is so nostalgic to me, I remember watching you like 12 years ago... Time flies 😢
Yea it does….I don’t really remember when I first started watching him but yea you’re right
I was like 6 when I started watching this.
But I am 8 now.
@@Gotmorerizz92bro get off da app
Bro this was like one year ago
Love the screensaver on your TV with the late Molly sleeping on the amp. Nice collection of JBLs!
The JBL Pulse 4 is in Demo Mode, which basically locks it to only auxillary input and only will power on when plugged in. The only way to fix that is to hold down the Bluetooth and Play/Pause buttons for 10-15 seconds, then once they power off turn em back on.
Yo
its the pulse 3
Which also explains why it has the holes the mount uses.
HERE BEFORE THE JBL KIDS
hahaha right
Fr
What are jbl kids?
@@generalzod7959 usually kids from 9 to 13 years old that post "jbl bass test" videos of their crappy bluetooth speakers playing random bass boosted music, which is not a problem, the real problem is, they think those portable jbl speakers are the best speakers ever made and they will make sure to tell everyone about it like its the second coming of jesus, when in reality those are disposable speakers meant to be thrown away after a couple of years and they have a very mediocre sound quality
my jbl speaker stopped charging after like a year
I used to watch your old destruction videos alot when i was younger. I'm so happy to see you still doing videos :D
Those plulses are probally demo models🤔
That woukd also explain the screws on the back
And also why not all the buttons work I guess
Explains a lot 😂
I was checking your channel like every day was so pumped for this video!
My guess on the larger tube style speakers is they were plugged in 24/7 and in use 24/7 in various hospitality environments. Restaurants, waiting rooms, hospitals, etc. And also places like automotive shops, home workshops.. Obviously, charging circuits and lithium batteries are not really meant to do that. Lol
The ones with the screw holes in the side were probably wall mounted
glad to see you again garret as always. thats a pretty good score id say. some of the hardware in there could be worth something!
I love your content never stop uploading 🔥
Gonna be epic seeing all those speaker blow outs! Crazy how much of a fire hazard those things are...
1 of my friends went thru 2 of those things in a year. One of them almost caught fire and then the other one started expanding from the battery. I would recommend getting the Oontz angle 3 instead it's a pretty good speaker for cheap
Garret, your channel defined my childhood and Im so happy to see you are still alive and thriving here on UA-cam, and in general. Lifelong fan, here to stay. -Nick
Thank you for opening up those JBL’s. I have a flip5 and a Xtreme2 and wondered what they looked like. Didn’t want to open them up because they work and sound great!!! Have had them for a couple of years.
For the 2 Xtreme 3’s, try plugging it with a universal computer charger (45 or 60w ; 19v, 3,4A)
this is why i subscribed, your content is still good till this day, been watching you since your first speaker smash party
Just realized it he is almost to 100k let’s goooooo he definitely deserves it loved the video btw 😀
I think the real issue is people leaving them on the charger wat longer than needed or never taking them off. Ive seen business owners leave them in places for years without unplugging them.
No, people just use more powerful PS, so they are blown.
However if they had good charge circuitry and batteries that would not be a problem
Nah it’s not the old charge 3,flip 3,flip4 and xtreme 1s all have cheap batteries and poorly made matters they have fixed it with the new version my charge 3 battery expanded so I just brought a cheap one and it’s lasted longer
those are awesome speakers! I've thrown mini parties with them and the extreme 3 and the charge speakers are amazing, the pulse series is just beautiful, i wouldn't blow them up at all man good for a collection
You are darn close to the big 100k, Garret! Keep it up!
He already has 100k
@@Bopit5665 that comment was made 9 months ago, I saw him reach the big 100 a few weeks ago. Probs best to check the comment date before posting about it.
It's always amazing to see you uploading, Garrett! Sadly no speaker blowout in this video, but I'm sure they'll just be added alongside the Bose Acoustimass subwoofer, and the iMac speakers to create an awesome speaker blowout video!
haha for sure, for the jbl blowout I want it to be very fast paced so this video is the talking side of things
@@GarretClaridgeMeerkat Yeah this video is just for explaining and reviewing what you got in the speaker lot you bought, and seeing what works and what doesn't. But is that big blowout video coming sometime soon? If you want to keep it a secret, that's absolutely fine with me. Love your videos btw. Incredible content. And thanks to you and your awesome content, you got me into the audio world, and I absolutely LOVE audio ever since I found out about it through you. I have indeed subbed, and I'm a HUGE fan of you and the amazing stuff you do! Just want to say thank you! 😁
@GarretClaridgeMeerkat but jbl speakers cannot connect with mixer amplifier 😅 I can read passive radiators 😂
@@XDAVIDCHAOS He's gonna open them up and hook the speakers directly up to his amp(s).
How much did that entire box cost? Could you also tell me the EBAY user that you bought it from? If you dont mind.@@GarretClaridgeMeerkat
90% of all burnt JBLs are because of people using LFM (Low Frequency Mode).
LFM is made for the manufacturers to test if the speaker works properly.
that makeup coated charge was in low frequency mode when i got it, tried the shortcut and it sounded like shit hahaha
Most JBL speakers have a low-frequency mode that disables the internal HPF. There's a button combo for each (volume down and Bluetooth button iirc). Have fun!
Its not a lfm mode or any of that bullcrap. Its just a debug mode which removes all dsp and sounds like shit
@@theloudspeakernerd-tlsn9322it sounds like shit but the drivers will move and warp like crazy and some jbl fans like to flex about it for some reason
@@theloudspeakernerd-tlsn9322lfm is a nickname. everybody knows what it actually is
Those countertop JBL tablet style Google assistant devices are probably store display units and were never sold. Either they're in demo mode or they need to be flashed. I wonder if maybe those burnt ones got too close to a camp fire or maybe fell into a camp fire!
i wonder if they even have real webcams inside i wanted to find a webcam demo so bad, they would be cool basic email cheekers haha
That's a nice score! You could definitely profit off of some of that hardware. I'm surprised you got a decent amount of working speakers. They all could have been broken. Looking forward to the blowouts!
I see your videos since i'm 7 years old man... I'm 20 and still watching some ♡
The JBL Pulse speakers and those JBL View whatever tablet seem to be in store demo units. I remember trying to connect to one and all I was able to do was turn em on and reset but was only able to play the demo music. Basically those disable a bunch of features for demo purposes ofc. The tablets could most likely be reset but can't really say since I don't know much about them personally.
Also fun fact for all the JBL's besides the Clip 3's, If you hold the Bluetooth and Volume Down button while it's on for 12 seconds or until the lights all come on, you can put them in Low Frequency Mode. It basically disable's the JBL's DSP stuff and plays all frequencies cleanly through the speakers so they can play like 5 Hz if you wanted it to lol.
I freakin LOVE my Charge3, I thought the speakers were blown but it was a dead battery pack, replaced it for like $15 and good as new!
This Pulse 3 is just blocked up. You need to plug into the charge and hold the buttons Power & Bluetooth for 10s.
Got quite a few JBL speakers myself. For many of the models you can mute the statup and alert etc sounds in the app. For the extreme 3s. They dont actually charge over USB. They came with their own charger.
And for the melted ones. To me anyway, that doesnt look like a battery fire. There wouldnt be much left of them if the battery did go up. Either they were left on something hot. Or else could be some sort of chemical reaction to something they were sitting on.
hate when companies like JBL, and apple force you to use their chargers.
@@lukeson8934it’s not forcing you to use their charger, you just have to use the right type of charger. Just like a device that uses micro USB can’t be charged using USB type C.
@@hotwheelshuntingukyeah and JBL forces people to use DC Chargers instead of USBC because when the Extreme 2 and 3 came out USBC wasn't fast enough yet to charge them properly
The ones that are drilled out were likely Retail demo units.
That flip 4 isn't supposed to have the dust cap popped out like that. Probably happened when the battery went
R.I.P JBL flip 4
@tater6959 I hate the JBL Flip 4. I've heard that the flip 4 has a pretty terrible battery lifespan.
I have a JBL charge 3 that I got since release and I still use it everyday sounds nice and super convenient to take with me these should also have a link button and they should be able to wirelessly connect to eachother
Welcome Back Garret. Another Blowout JBL speaker
I been watching this dude for a long time
you can do a reset for the ones that are lighting up the LEDs but not showing up in bluetooth or doing anything relevant, there are many tried methods, hold the power button for a lot of time, hold power + bluetooth, I don't remember which one works.
I bought a charge 5 full price because I wanted to see what all the fuss was online surrounding these things, I can say its a solid, relatively decent sounding, well built piece of kit. I personally feel I paid a bit much on the price to performance side of things but I think I also may just be spoiled with my JBL PA equipment from the 90s haha, 4 18s will do that to ya I presume lol.
I have a jbl partybox 300 and what a beautiful bit of kit honestly
Yeah PA will do that. Got 2 sets of huge Peavey speakers and they blow me away. Makes all the small Bluetooth speakers seem dull.
Lol my google assistant went off watching this 😂😂.
Those speakers with the drill holes are display units, and usually get permanently attached to a store shelf.
You almost have 100k subscribers, that's amazing!
The one perfect flip 4 was working but the startup sound was turned off in the app
Oh damn I've already hard wired it to bypass the amp 😒
@@GarretClaridgeMeerkat but you can still use the amp for other projects
Let the jbl die smoke
You are the first person I subscribed to on UA-cam
lol hooking up all those little things at once with the crazy wiring was awesome
Hay garret with the flip 4 or 3 you need to keep the button down so i will make a sound and it let you know its on
Ooohhh boy! The legend is back!
I love your vision wached them since I was 6
What do you do with the JBLs afterwards?
Nice to see you again pal!
I wouldn't trust any of those speakers. Those batteries are supposed to have protection against overcharging.
Very nice score! Great to see you 😎🤩
Connect them all to a linux system and use parec and pacat to send the music to all at ones, you can sync them by using the buffer. Joke ;) Just blow them up.
There is a bunch of thing you need to know about these speakers that they have apps and a bunch of service modes dsp controls but great video
where i can buy a similary box fully a jbl speakers?
aliexpress has the exact drivers to most big bluetooth speakers and many better ones too but for reselling them these prolly great
The JBL clip on would probably make a great hockey puck 🏒
The JBL pulse speakers were probably store displays, looks like they were screwed down to a shelf. Someone else said they were in demo mode too.
Hope you get your hands on a Boombox (1 or 2) one day, these have a whole lot of excursion for woofers that small haha
The legend is back🎉
man thats a good deal!!! those extreme 3s are worth some money for even parts!!!!!!
For such sound they costs any cent, Xtreme 2 or Xtreme sounds really better.
In the jbl app you can turn off the start up sound on the flip 4
The pulse 3 was just in lock mode if it’s turned off all the buttons work
i love jbl content and your vids
Please use the cs 800 to blow them if you still have that amp
That amp already broken
If there are screws on the speaker, means it was used as a demo unit prob, to hold down the speaker for stores and etc...
i love the screen smashing in the intro :P
They look pretty nice. Kinda shaped like coffee cups. 😋
Where do you buy all of this
Good stuff. Good to see a new video.
Ain't no one talking about the cute cat in the beginning?
Those pulse speakers were mounted on a store display, those are the holes those mounts use.
OMG IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS TO HAPPEN YAYAYAYAYAYA
Cant wait to see the blowout of some of these and also cant wait to see what you do with the link views
You are back again
Yessss!!! Another GC blowout video!
Molly😢. I had to put my 14 year old Chihuahua down for kidney failure. I didn’t want her suffering. It was the best thing to do based on the suggestions of my vet.
Those Link Views definitely look like they're store display models. Not sure if they're running Android or some custom Linux OS though. If it's running Android then there's a chance you can get a normal launcher installed and use it like a networked media player.
Wow finally a new vid 😊
Yeah finally new video! ❤️🔥
Sometimes JBL batteries sound like bombs
I thought Garret was dead, but he's still alive
For the two speakers with the screw holes, I am pretty sure they’re there because they were stolen from like a Walmart/Tmobile type store and the screws were used for mounting same with the ones with the screen they seem to be in store demo mode
I’m surprised that xtream 3 looks brand new
you can use party mode in diffrent jbl bluetooth speaker
Those link views look like a model you would see on display in a store in pretty sure you can actually get out of demo mode but you might need a code so might have to factory format in some way
I bought the JBL flip six. It sounds pretty nice! Review coming soon!
Only for pop music, on rock or electronic - they suck.
@@mykyta_go5hko what is your suggestion for a better small speaker that can fit in the palm of your hand?
@@godisgoodatht All Flips are bad. I have Flip 4 GG with metal cone drivers and Flip 5 wich i wanna to throw away. I use an old speaker - Charge 2. It is old, but sounds powerful and amazing. I also use my Charge 3 GG.
garret clarigde your video is good ✨
jbl pulse are not broken but are in demo mode, then you can only play music with power supply and via the audio jack plug
16:44 my JBL charge 4 went crazy 😂
Hi Garrett Claridge. Can you test the SONY GRX80 please?
The master blaster at it again 😃✌🏿let’s go!!!!😀😀😀
God.. I miss you garret!! Still watch your shit to this day, I am a bit confused what happened to your teeth but I hope your health is well, all luv!
Look up a tutorial on how to take them apart its actually pretty easy on some of them
You can tws the jbl clip
Hi Garret, I have an idea: If you really want to blow some of them that don't function well, don't use your amps. You know that JBL Xtreme 3 has a really powerful amp which has 100W RMS, which the speakers of flips or charges can not handle. I suggest you to blow those speakers with a JBL Xtreme 3, and thank you❤
The pulse speakers are in usb only playback mode. To turn this off and use them as normal, conenct them to usb and hold bluetooth+play
JBL are great speakers I see you have some big ones to
The portable jbl speakers all sound like dog shit
