    Hey everybody! I know it's a huge question and I've already lost subscribers over it, but yeah my teeth are gone due to a bone deficiency. I was breaking teeth very easily and for years the broken teeth remained un-pulled constantly hurting and eventually cased me to be poisoned, after the point where I only had my two front teeth left that's when I had them all pulled and took a break from UA-cam
    I will most likely get false teeth but for now my gums are still healing and I'm learning how to talk and eat all over again, multiple videos were recorded in my time off however hearing my own voice on recordings would really upset me, and still does. I get excited and sound like Sylvester the cat ;)

    To open these, I first have to gently pry all 4 sides to get the side of the cabinet to come off the driver. Next, it’s basically a 10 minute process of digging into the corners of them trying not to break it. I was able to get all of mine open without breaking them. Best thing, they just snap back together, no need to glue! From memory, I did scratch myself once. You’re not wrong, it’s difficult.

    The evolution of Bose is definitely interesting. For a short time in the mid-seventies they were considered a "Hi-Fi" company and moved some product even with ever present doubters. Killing off their reflecting/direct series of speakers they went into "lifestyle" audio keying on small satellites with a separate woofer box and table top music boxes. Side ventures included working in the OEM purpose built audio systems in cars, high-speed coil feedback car voice-coil inspired suspension systems (w/ GM's Cadillac division), and aviation coms (Telex was fading) markets. They had hit and misses but managed to sell big numbers of their lifestyle satellite/woofer systems, even opening many Bose stores as well as selling through mass merchandisers by tightly controlling the retail prices these merchants sold at so not to undermine their own stores and direct marketing. By this time there was no audiophile aspirations instead a money printing machine selling to the very non-audiophile masses. Wife acceptance factor can not be underestimated as surround systems with large box speakers were waning. As the whole home stereo thing morphed into phones as a new growth market Bose once more changed gears going into earphones, ear-buds, and Bluetooth speakers. Early ones were just that and not that good audio wise. But through the years Bose was a recognized name they proved they could still leverage. Bose OEM car systems peaked and fell sharply as manufacturers sought out other audio companies that remembered audio before no highs, no lows, must be Bose had better range and more power. Bose wasn't out though. Oh no, they did improve those earphones and ear-buds and made Bluetooth their "new lifestyle" range. They captured the large aviation market through attrition of other former brands too. At the end of the day though I simply wouldn't consider Bose as a person who always valued audiophile quality. I'll give them kudos though for using audio to enable an impressive money making machine. Your video made that pretty clear in a humorous way. To think I was on the verge of buying a set of 901's in 1977 as a high school senior. I called up Lawrence Hi-Fi in Birmingham Alabama only to find out they quit carrying Bose because they had too many limitations and much better speakers at the same, even less, price points were far superior in their words. I ended up purchasing a pair of ESS AMT 1B speakers and was very happy. It's 2022 and I still have those and they still sound pretty darn good. Glad I woke up from the pseudo "Hi-Fi" Bose has always excelled at.

    • @djijspeakerguy4628

      Funnily enough, they don’t even sound horrible with the supplied subwoofers, because they have DSP in the powered ones. It makes them sound clearer in the treble, and the subwoofer also extends higher than usual. They are basically using software to make their cheap hardware sound better. In the passive ones, they just have a super intricate crossover. Kind of an interesting idea, but I prefer when they are actually built well.

    • @derSkedda
      @derSkedda 2 роки тому

      @@djijspeakerguy4628 yeah, bose has been like that forever. Either they use very well thought out enclosure designs and horrible drivers or they use both and slap some really good DSP on there.

  • @JessicaFEREM
    @JessicaFEREM 2 роки тому +3

    bose audio is fine, just don't buy them without the EQ unit, because you're not paying for high quality speakers, you're paying for the EQ to those speakers.
    if not you could probably EQ them yourself, but at that point just get better speakers.
    I have some of their headphones and they're pretty good, but I got them for $30 so maybe that's why I'm not super mad at them.

    I’ve seen a grand total of 3 different versions of these drivers. The original cubes from this generation had smooth fabric surrounds and paper dust caps. After that, they switched to fabric dust caps. After that, they went back to these paper dust caps and the ripple surrounds. I think there may have also been a 4th version with ripple surrounds with fabric dust caps.
    Really old ones had metal frames, rubber (I think) surrounds and plastic dust caps.

    • @PlatinumEagleStudios

      The versions with the ripple surrounds actuallt have higher excursion than the first versions. And they sound the best in my opinion.

  • @scottyfixit
    @scottyfixit 2 роки тому +6

    Bose's magic has mostly been in their "magic" EQ box/controller. I believe it has a dynamic eq based on the volume to make low volume bass stronger in smaller speakers but allow for louder volumes by decreasing the bass as volume/signal climbs. They sometimes do a little extra magic with chambers or speakers with a larger excursion range, but generally the speakers individually are nothing exciting or of a higher build quality. By staying with small speakers, they can, however, sort of produce a cleaner sound as they don't have the mass of a large woofer to keep in control, but they usually go for quantity of small speakers in larger PA boxes to make up for the lack of driver size. Does it make a difference? Meh.... maybe to the trained ear, but you pay a lot usually for the name itself, which sometimes cancels out the difference.

    Yeah I’m not the biggest fan of the cubes. I personally like their pro audio (their passive PA speakers to be exact) and their older home audio. Like the 101s, the acustimass 321 series ii, VS100, and their environmental 151s. Granted the 101s, VS100s, and the 151s all use the same cabinet but with different drivers and covers.
    I have 2 VS100s I got off eBay and put one in my new home theater system. I really like the way they sound! Very clear full and crisp sound. Im only using one and its the center channel.
    But yeah I agree. The cubes are a neat idea but not their best speakers.

  • @faithless8888
    @faithless8888 2 роки тому +5

    I own an acoustimass 10 series V system which is connected to a Marantz SR8015. With that model they changed the cheap plastic satelites to full metal built satelite speakers, which is a serius improvement of builtquality. But for the rest I guess they remained the same. Now this setup I only use for movies and videogames and I think they sound really good. Probably because I use them with the bass module they came with, which does that EQ thing they use. Because even in this setup, where you need an external amp, they let the output of the amp go in to the bass module first, before it goes to those satelite speakers. So the module definitly messes with the signal.
    But for music, I prefer my set up in my study, which exists of two B&W DM580 speakers with a vintage Philips 686 stereo receiver. Never fails to amaze me.

But ya for the money you can do better if you're not totally caught up on out of sight or small foot print speakers.

    I think will be amazing to see for each type of speaker you destroy, the AUDIO POWER AND FREQUENCY you are using LIVE input, to see what's the limitation of the each speaker. I think all this destruction then, will be in the name of SCIENCE and QUALITY purpose. Give it a try, and you will have great results in views and subscribers. Cheers!

    Amazing to see you uploading again! Great job on blowing those speakers. Typical disposable tech using heaps of glue to hold it together.

    The whole point of the subwoofer was it separated the channels

      Yes, and was the key ingredient in making the cheap speakers sound OK, the subwoofer would output a high pass signal with heavy equalizer settings

    Bose 901 are legendary for the "unlimited" wattage myth? They could be had when found with damaged cabinet. Would be interesting to see how they pan out. Thanks in advance!

    honestly not saying them Bose speakers are that great but they defo need Bose's DSP to sound decent
    those drivers also look very similar to the ones in the SoundLink Air, but in these the cones etc just look glued in, and the SoundLink Air has Neodymium magnets and a metal basket
