Hey everybody! I know it's a huge question and I've already lost subscribers over it, but yeah my teeth are gone due to a bone deficiency. I've been on here since YT was a separate company and remember seeing your antics back in the days, glad to see ya still around. And you confirmed why I hate these things, they never sounded good.
To open these, I first have to gently pry all 4 sides to get the side of the cabinet to come off the driver. Next, it’s basically a 10 minute process of digging into the corners of them trying not to break it. I was able to get all of mine open without breaking them. Best thing, they just snap back together, no need to glue! From memory, I did scratch myself once. You’re not wrong, it’s difficult.
More and more high end brands using glue and break-away tabs makes me think it's all just business and none of them really give a fk. Keep going man! I like your videos!
The evolution of Bose is definitely interesting. For a short time in the mid-seventies they were considered a "Hi-Fi" company and moved some product even with ever present doubters. Killing off their reflecting/direct series of speakers they went into "lifestyle" audio keying on small satellites with a separate woofer box and table top music boxes. Side ventures included working in the OEM purpose built audio systems in cars, high-speed coil feedback car voice-coil inspired suspension systems (w/ GM's Cadillac division), and aviation coms (Telex was fading) markets. They had hit and misses but managed to sell big numbers of their lifestyle satellite/woofer systems, even opening many Bose stores as well as selling through mass merchandisers by tightly controlling the retail prices these merchants sold at so not to undermine their own stores and direct marketing. By this time there was no audiophile aspirations instead a money printing machine selling to the very non-audiophile masses. Wife acceptance factor can not be underestimated as surround systems with large box speakers were waning. As the whole home stereo thing morphed into phones as a new growth market Bose once more changed gears going into earphones, ear-buds, and Bluetooth speakers. Early ones were just that and not that good audio wise. But through the years Bose was a recognized name they proved they could still leverage. Bose OEM car systems peaked and fell sharply as manufacturers sought out other audio companies that remembered audio before no highs, no lows, must be Bose had better range and more power. Bose wasn't out though. Oh no, they did improve those earphones and ear-buds and made Bluetooth their "new lifestyle" range. They captured the large aviation market through attrition of other former brands too. At the end of the day though I simply wouldn't consider Bose as a person who always valued audiophile quality. I'll give them kudos though for using audio to enable an impressive money making machine. Your video made that pretty clear in a humorous way. To think I was on the verge of buying a set of 901's in 1977 as a high school senior. I called up Lawrence Hi-Fi in Birmingham Alabama only to find out they quit carrying Bose because they had too many limitations and much better speakers at the same, even less, price points were far superior in their words. I ended up purchasing a pair of ESS AMT 1B speakers and was very happy. It's 2022 and I still have those and they still sound pretty darn good. Glad I woke up from the pseudo "Hi-Fi" Bose has always excelled at.
When I was in the army back in the late 70's and early 80's, the Bose 501 and 901's ruled every barracks in Germany! They were king shit when the music and good times were at their best.
what's that remote you use? It looks really cool. I'm glad you're back I've been watching your videos for a long time. It actually helped fuel my love for audio and technology.

Funnily enough, they don’t even sound horrible with the supplied subwoofers, because they have DSP in the powered ones. It makes them sound clearer in the treble, and the subwoofer also extends higher than usual. They are basically using software to make their cheap hardware sound better. In the passive ones, they just have a super intricate crossover. Kind of an interesting idea, but I prefer when they are actually built well.
@@djijspeakerguy4628 yeah, bose has been like that forever. Either they use very well thought out enclosure designs and horrible drivers or they use both and slap some really good DSP on there.

I own an acoustimass 10 series V system which is connected to a Marantz SR8015. With that model they changed the cheap plastic satelites to full metal built satelite speakers, which is a serius improvement of builtquality. But for the rest I guess they remained the same. My first couple pairs of speakers were 201s and 301s. If you used them within their limits they were great.
