Install Winch Electrical Disconnect For Off-Road Vehicles

Install winch disconnect switch and fabricate sheet metal bracket to mount in engine bay. A power interrupt or electrical disconnect adds a safety factor to your winch equipped vehicle. Disconnect is added to the positive lead between battery and winch. Winches are hard wired to the battery and have high amperage draw. A shutoff is essential if there is a problem. I made this video installing simple disconnect on my Jeep Wrangler Ecodiesel but these methods can be applied to a wide variety of vehicles. I used the Blue Sea Systems 6006200 m-Series Battery ON/OFF switch.

300 Amp Rating on the switch I used. It’s a BlueSea Battery Disconect.

What size and thread pitch bolts did you use to mount your custom mount to the empty bracket?

Hope you can help me with my dumb question… I recently bought a disconnect switch and want to setup like you did. The manual of the switch indicated it’s has “negative polarity” and requires to connect to negative… did I get the wrong switch? Or only battery disconnect requires such setup…

Not a dumb question. I would definitely follow the manufactures instructions on switch you bought. Switch I used is simple on/off. It is a battery isolation switch. Stopping the current from getting to the winch. Thanks!
