I bought a 1990 YJ in 97 with 69K miles. It was a 5 speed with a 4 cylinder. I used to drive it on the highway all the time. I had it over 100mph quite often (that is the hillbilly speed limit in Northern NH LOL) The only issue I ever had with it was not being able to have a cup of coffee in it without spilling it. I put 125K miles on it over 6 years then my son drove it for 2 years before he left for the Marines. At 230K miles it still looked and ran great. No rust, no major issues. It needed a clutch when I bought it and the front rotors had a recall but it was due for brakes then anyhow so that saved the labor cost of a front brake job.

I've had two DJ-5s which I bought from the post office for $600. When the first one died, I got another, also for $600. That's how much I liked them. For those of you who do not know, the DJ-5 is a Postal Jeep. The 1975 models I had came with an inline 6 engine. One of the spark plugs was practically unreachable because it was right up against the cab wall. I don't know what you call it. Another problem was that the DJ-5 requires 18lbs of pressure in the front tires and 26lbs of pressure in the rear. I discovered this the first time I had to put air in the ties. Eventually I replaced them and told the guy who put the brand new tires on NOT to put the standard 35lbs in them. He didn't listen to me, which I found out the hard way as soon as I pulled out of the tire shop. The vehicle was all over the road... no traction at all almost like driving on a slick track. Not only was the info in the vehicle's manual but also on a on a steel plate attached to the dash. Even so, I loved those little 'Light Utility Trucks' and which I had one to day, right hand drive and all.

Rode in friend's CJ5 with 304 V8, going down highway about 40 mph on fresh falling snow, he did something caused the jeep to do a 360 or two before it straightened out. A pucker moment.
Around 1979. Short wheelbase I think caused it.

P.S. O.K., I've got it. The Jeep's present owner is your grandson. That's great, Scotty. My wife and I spent a month on the Mainland this past summer. We put 3,750 + miles on the rental car we drove. We had two rental cars on our trip, one for four weeks. That was a 2021 Grand Cherokee with 3.6 gas engine. Our second rental car, which we only had for the three days we were visiting my sister and her husband in San Diego, was a 2021 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport. We love Jeeps. To my wife and I, but, of course, more to me, Jeeps are part of our family. An essential part. Keep up the great work with your UA-cam Channel, Scott. Andy McKane, 6 October 2021.

I’ve had several jeeps from a jeep Cherokee XJ to a jeep grand Cherokee Laredo to a jeep patriot and as long as I have been taking care of them they’ve always served me well the problem is is that people use and abuse these vehicles and think that they can just go off running with them even though they are bare stock

I've seen AMC jeeps from new till hundreds of thousands of miles, only requiring regular maintenance. Seems that people expect all of them to be money pits straight out of the factory
Now, after a certain point in time after chrysler got a hold of the name, that's a different story and a different jeep.

I had a 1991 Geo Tracker and bought new out in the burbs of Chicago. I moved back to the far north side of Houston. My brother and I decided to go visit my Grandmother in San Antonio. On the way there I had the sunroof part of the softtop flipped back but still had the rest of the softtop on. Halfway to SA I got pulled over by the Texas Highway Dept and I pulled over and asked what was wrong? He said I caught you doing almost 100 mph. I started laughing. He said it's not funny and I said your exactly right the only way I was hitting 100 was falling off a cliff especially with the top open. The top might as well be a parachute to slow me down. Anyway he said he could have mixed us up and after checking my license, reg, and insurance he let us go. 100 mph? Those things had like 89 hamster power. I got stuck in a ditch and my friend pulled me out with his four wheeler. Man it would shake going down the freeway. By the time we got where we were going I had rheumatism and no fillings in my teeth.
