To clarify there is supposed to be one Azure dragoon not just one dragoon, the Azure Dragoon is the best dragoon of the many dragoons.
ah OK that makes so much more sense! I knew I was missing something. I suppose then do they all have some magic to them that allows them to leap?
Generally all Dragoons have some draconic or aetheric power they use for their jumps, Azure Dragoons are mainly special since they get enhanced power straight from the Eye of Nidhogg
@@CaffeinatedDad Dragoons have mad hops dont question it its cool
ESTINIEEEEN
(He's the Azure Dragoon)
I literally did this when I loaded this video xD
Yup, me too XD
It's a necessity to do this.
I can't say Estinien anymore without adding it.... thank you JoeCat
doing the lords work in the comments section. I appreciate you, stranger.
So, historically speaking, French dragoons were horse-mounted musketmen. In Final Fantasy, however, it was early localization's attempt to shorten "dragon knight," as Japanese often uses less characters for bigger words. So the reason they can Jump Good is because the original Dragon Knight/Dragoon was a knight who could fight on par with a dragon, including in the sky.
How can Estinien fly into the air? 100 pushups! 100 situps! 100 squats! 10km run! Every! Single! Day!
Estinien isn't even a rank S 1 hero though....

ESTINEEEEEEEEEEEEN!!!~~
(He's the Azure Dragoon)
Estinien is the Azure Dragoon, they have ways of riding the wind.
I think he is introverted husbando material for someone out there in the world.
I honestly was waiting for someone to say that lol
IIRC: the reason dragoons are able to "fly" like that is basically a specialized technique where they channel aether into their legs, potentially wind aspected but I could be wrong in that, but they use it to propel themselves into the air as though borne on dragon wings, and allowing them to use their spears to strike down wyrms from above.
Aka, huge anime jumps!
Its essentially Shunpo from bleach. they use their aether to create a spring board effect and to solidify the air beneath their feet while airbourne.
Important. When you start doing your own leapy kickies always make sure your twinkle toes touch ground outside the AOE before it goes off or you'll get transformed into a floor tank.
Always watch the bad circles lol
Fun fact: The pole dance used to be a skill the Dragoon learned back in HW: Ring of Thorns. It's no longer in the game, but we get an upgrade to Full Thrust somewhere in the 80-90 range that gives us pole dance 2.0.
Otherwise I just gotta say. The armor IS one of the best Lvl 50 gear set imo. To this day I still wear it sometimes bc its just so iconic.
I'm not a DRG guy but that armor absolutely clears.
Also, there is a level 50-something FATE dragoon npc that still has the pole dance move: Sir Alaimbert of the Spiked Butt. Yes, that is his official name.
I'm fairly sure Ring of Thorns was all the way back in ARR, but yeah it was the one AoE ability Dragoons had at the time, until it got replaced with the line AoE in... Stormblood, I think?
@@Deuzen_FIN It wasn't replaced, they had both at the same time. And that was the entire core issue, because Doom Spike was clearly superior (higher potency and lower TP cost) compared to Ring of Thorns in almost every way, only thing unique about it was it having slightly increased potency when used after Heavy Thrust. So it was removed because most of the time it was just a waste of hotbar space.
Players can still use Ring of Thorns... just not in this game. It was added as an emote in Monster Hunter World.
Dragoons have super human leaping abilities from their dragon powers that enable them to “fly” as you describe it.
It’s not really their dragon powers that give them the ability to jump high. It’s aether manipulation. Enhancing the muscles in their legs with aether they can do jumps that make them appear to be flying
Ah, so basically, the whole never missed leg day idea?
In FFXIV, all classes use magic to some degree. Which is usually where all the flashy stuff comes from. DRG jumps are one of those.
magic is such a mundane way to say it, its essentially aether manipulation.
No fly. Jump good.
The Scotsman: Yeah yeah.
Ah. I wrong.
You can tell who is cool and important, here, by the names that Caffeinated Dad pronounced correctly, which were, of course, Estinien and Caffeinated Dad. Really enjoyed your videos on GW2, as I'm very new to it, and I'm delighted to see you're also an FF fan.
Theres an actual lore reason for their edgy armor too. Its super spikey because that way if a dragon tries to swallow them it'll tear them up from the inside.
That's so damn cool lol
I am *loving* Dragoon. And yep, you did a 40 on the curb for your predecessor homie!
Dragoon despite having the floor tank status has been a ton of fun! Something I don't think I was prepared for!
@@CaffeinatedDadfloor tanking is lore accurate too! Ishgard has maybe a few dozen dragoons in their entire army because most people dont survive the rigorous training :D plus dragoons despite being melee fighters have to be able to channel aether with a good deal of control on par with some mages, though its all channelled to enhance their leaps and thrusts. The best dragoons in lore can even change direction mid air! Though most cant.
I am obssesed with the way you talk like you are the most entertaining storyteller there is on this platform.
This is seriously high praise, thank you!
I’m glad you’re here to explain the lancer/dragoon quests because I skipped all the dialogue
"How can he fly?!"
"Not fly, just jump good."
Welcome to Gridania, the magical land of racism
Just the planet in general, everyone starts off hating the beast tribes.
It's kinda ironic, that 'Pole Dancing' move that asshole of a lancer was doing, was actually one of the original Lancer/Dragoon Moves from 2.0, specifically part of their AOE combo back then... when TP was an issue as well.
Why would they remove something so amazing!
Aaaaw I was hoping to catch the livestream where you finally meet The Gigachad Estinien! Glad you are enjoying the quest line.
Foulques falling of a cliff might be somewhat anticlimactic, it, however, is fits perfectly with the story told in the lancer questline. Ywain always talks about how important courage is for lancers and that lancers' courage is based in resolve and composure. Foulques claims he has a better way, instead using bavado and anger. And in the end he dies panicking, his anger and bravado shattered, his resolve and composure failing him. Proving his way inferior to Ywain's/yours.
That. Is an excellent detail that I missed! This is great!
"I wanna see how the Dragoon fits into the story." :)
:D I am sure this is nothing
its like Voo-clay, I weep for the Ishagardians in the first expansion. The French Elves will not be very happy.
They were very distant from the start but man they were not happy with me being there in general
I still feel pretty bad for Foulques. When Ywain was like, “well, fate dealt him a bad hand” or whatever, I was mad. It wasn't “fate.” All the bad stuff that happened to Foulques was within people's control. Apparently no one bothered to investigate whether Foogley was actually the only thief. Maybe it is realistic though that a guy like Ywain, who represents Gridania's establishment, is unsympathetic to the people his city fails. So the lancer story ends up being very interesting to me.
Gridania kind of fucking sucks lorewise., and it's telling that it's the only citystate that doesn't get any development. Like if there's one thing I'd call broken about FF14's world building, it's Gridania without a doubt.
Once you start looking into Duskwight lore you quickly realize "Oh... all of these NPCs are villains or purposely written to be assholes". Which is... not great?
For a game that goes out of its way to humanize the beast tribes and even oppressive fascists, it's kind of shitty that they have a dedicated villain race they never do anything meaningful with.
Estinien is awesome. He gets dragoon jumps the rest of us can only wish for.
I miss the spammable poledance jump. We sort of got it back but now it's no longer spammable and is part of our rotation.
Poledancing will never not be funny to me lol
Let's call this arc....
The Legend of Dragoon.
I wanted to use the title, enter the dragoon
@@CaffeinatedDad
Awww, but Legend of Dragoon references the OTHER old PS1 RPG from a loooong time ago.
So glad the dad did DRG before Heavensward. It really adds to the experience, IMO.
Congratulations on becoming a Pole Dancer.
Thanks I hate it.
I know it probably comes across weird, but the reason some NPCs seem to not recognize you during some quest lines is because if you started as a Lancer, you wouldn't have made a name for yourself by that point in the storyline. So think of it as kind of going back in time as you unlock classes and stuff XD
Little note: Coerthas is far easier to pronounced than you think. Cur-thus. Cur is pronounced exactly like the word "Cur" (curl without the L), and the "th" is pronounced like in the word "think." Why is it pronounced like this? Because a LOT of Ishgardian things are pronounced as if they were French names. The name "Fortemps" is pronounced like "for Tom." It's weird.
balloons are a type of Bomb. a voidsent(demon) in ffxiv but are often dangerous enemies in the series that will nuke an area near death. Balloons i think are lesser ones
Don't worry about having a lack of buttons to push in combat. Dragoon has the longest single target combo in the game once you get to 70 or so.
1:22 it was... A TEST OF YOUR REFLEXES!
(if you don't get this, that's fine. *do not look it up.* you will get there eventually)
Welcome to our human missile delivery service
The lvl 45 Dragoon armor is still my favorite
Gigachad Estinien
I want to make a hype video for him lol
Of course you're doing an exorcism in Gridania. That forest is fucking haunted. No other region is bending over backwards for the stewards of the land, only Gridania, and it's because that forest is magic Chernobyl.
It’s not flying, it’s Jumping with style.
There are times in ARR and Heavensward that really make you wonder, am I that strong or are they just that weak?
Yet another banger video 😂 So funny
I assume polls, the viewer voting kind, will continue a theme of having you play the poster class for the expansion. Dragoon and monk are bonkers to play masterfully. Though dragoon is getting reworked for Dawntrail and monk just about always gets a rework.
I love dragoon I have 18 characters that have dragoon unlocked
Yeah, doing job quests is always funny because they're written with the assumption that your current job is the only job the WoL knows. Like some asshole will show up and start causing problems, and it's just like "Y'know I could just swap my job stone to my main job that is like 20 levels higher, clean up this whole mess right now? No? I'm not a high enough level in *this* job to fight them? Alright then." Like I get why, would be almost impossible to write the job quest stories with that level of potential path variations, but I would love for just once for someone to start shit and then we just change jobstones and smash them into the core of the earth then and there lol.
You are able to pose with your character by drawing your weapon ('z' by default) and typing '/pose' in chat. Every class has a different pose. For some reason, male and female characters do different poses. As a male dragoon, you can do the Kain pose. Which gives me feelings since I loved FF4 so much. Sadly women dragoons don't get the Kain pose which is a real shame.
it's '/cpose'
Dragoons just know how to jump good ;D
If you want a way to deal with your Frustration wait till you get into Foundation and pick up the Dark Knight quest. Im not saying this because im a DRK main, But rather because its hands down the best class questline in the game and well the DRK quest voices alot of the things you are saying.
Vauxclairt is most likely pronounced "voclair"
Would you have guessed I'm terrible at pronunciations, lol
The whole 'anime jumping' thing is supposed to just be how dragoons are, human heat-seeking missiles with godlike jumping ability. It's actually a shame the player characters have such a tame implementation of that feature.
It would be cool to go through all the expansions with the canon job:
Warrior for ARR
Dragoon for HW
Samurai for SB
Dark Knight for ShB
Paladin for EW
Really sounds boring I’d much rather he do a job that he likes for each expansion.
The pole-dancing animation is from an old LNC/DRG that got pruned :(.
How ? He is a Dragoon.
But Why ? He is a Dragoon.
I want to know what he do for that ? Ahn, He is a Dragoon.
That's it.
"Estinien", you mean Foulques but worse(in ARR anyway. Obviously Estinien has had more time since then. I started as a Lancer so I still hate Estenien, but he is objectively better written at this point due to having more time on screen)
Estinien was a Duskwight in 1.0, so there's speculation that Foulques was sort of his replacement. Though that they specifically made the Duskwight the throwaway character is kind of shitty considering how many Duskwight NPCs they retconned, removed, or killed off going into ARR, especially considering their poor track record of how they've been handled since ARR.
Careful saying math time around FFXIV players
Math is Hard!
Anything but the prime numbers!
Just remember 1 isn't prime
D:
Yaaa I like ff14 gameplay alot but there's a ton of bs missions and hardly any voice acting. Big turn offs. One point fighting gods and dragons and then picking up flowers and balloons 😅😢
Estinien is Dragon Batman
Prove me wrong!
*ESTINIEEEEEEN!* ( He's the *Azure Dragoon* )
