One thing I’ve learned about red mage is that just because they can heal the party faster than a white mage doesn’t mean they heal the party as efficiently as a white mage
No but they bring Refresh to the fight which increases the White Mages efficiency significantly on top of their own. Also, for the love of Altana, Red Mages, Refresh your Paladins! Seriously, it is SO much easier on both us and you when we can reliably self cure to hold hate and with Paladins being one of the very few classes with Auto-Refresh it stacks wonderfully.
and even worse in FF3 ANY version they/Red Mages can't even use Curaga/CURE 3 and due to Particle beam's 2500+ damage EVERY turn Red Mages will NEVER OUTHEAL it since Cure 2 is their BEST healing spell in FF3 and its pure CRAP. AT 50,000 EACH for the 9999 dmage buyable Thrown weapons in FF3 that's the main reason to NOT use 4x Ninjas or even one Since Monks/Black belts can do 9999 damage WITHOUT having to spend millions of gil in return.
"Frederick, you were supposed to go to the supermarket ages ago! What happened?" "And so, in our typical granular style, here are 7 reasons why I have decided to stay home and play Final Fantasy instead..."
Glad to see the Red Mage get some love! My favorite class combo in FFXI was Red Mage with dancer subjob, I could solo ANYTHING, and an instant cast dancer Esuna was always useful! Dual wielding and I could regen my MP with refresh AND Aspir attacks, I could heal with MP or TP, there was no way to take me down!
RDM/DNC is still a popular combo for RDM in Modern. Though Aspir Samba isn't used all that frequently due to Refresh III's potency and how much safer it is to Convert these days.
I've played Final Fantasy Tactics like 3 times and even then I feel like I just only scratched the surface of what you can do with jobs. It's an incredibly complex and fun game
RDM in FFXI Chainspell is instant cast magic for 60 seconds and allows them to cast all spells instantly more or less for the time. It is not for 2 spells, that's Dualcast in FFXIV
I remember taking on and beating a ton of Notorious Monsters in FFXI as a Red Mage, either solo or as part of a Red Mage duo, that most full parties had trouble with. However, it was usually a battle of attrition as the Red Mage couldn't do high damage, but rather outlast most NMs by kiting them. It got trickier, though, if the NM had a Rage factor or if they developed resistance-over-time to Gravity, Paralyze, etc. Subbing Ninja and combining Utsusemi with Stoneskin, Phalanx, Haste, and other buffs could also allow them to tank under the right circumstances.
In base game it is overpowered, in mods it isn't so good as there are many buffed mobs and they are always on equal or above tier gear than you and almost always use the best abilities(some you cannot even get like teleport 2), not uncommon to fight Assassins that can one shot your members, Holy Knights, Summoners with Zodiac etc, Cid becomes almost a necessary character once you get him on some of the maps and even he can get destroyed by some enemies.
Before watching my 7 are: -ff5 freelancer since it keeps the passives of all mastered jobs - the red mage/black mage combo in ff12 zodiac age due to the high and consistent damage it does(if the pair doesn't count then shikari because it pairs well if not best with every other job in the game) -white mage in general cause to not have one is usually considered a challenge run -ravager from ff 13 since late game is essentially impossible without it due to some bosses casting doom if the battle takes too long -og monk from ff1 because money is incredibly tight in that game and monk excells at going gearless and does the most consistent plus high damage of all characters in the game -dragoon from ff3 probably because 90% of players needed it to get past the garuda fight on their first playthrough -sabatour from ff13 specifically vanille due to death, the paradigm shift exploit with death, and the bellonda wand to increase her success rates with debuffs.
The full jack of all trades saying is "a jack if all trades is a master of none, but often times better than a master of one" that seems to be very applicable here 😅
There was a mini red mage in xi who has a giant solo list. Nowa days you can kill most things at 75 with like two hits, but back in the day, hours of perfect work.
I know you (rightfully) went with the mascot dress speheres for FF X-2, but the Lady Luck dress sphere was pretty OP as well. Once leveled up, you had access to 100% crits as well as double exp. Pair it with sphere grids that gave access to mastered mage classes and I only had to switch to different jobs twice throughout a MQ playthrough. The only downside is the low defensive stats. Though, most fights are over so fast that it hardly matters
I loved rdm in ffxi when i played it back in the day. They could become practically immortal with their buffs and the ability to sustain their mp. Made a lot of gil from smn burn parties.
though RDM in Modern is still just as potent, Refresh Gear for Most Mages now is very accessible and while Refresh III on anyone is very welcomed its more likely your RDM will be busy front lining to do so for everyone and they'll just get a Double Ballad instead.
FFXI RDM was absolutely busted. The undisputed master of XI RDM was a Japanese player named Avesta. They were doing fights solo that most people would have considered impossible.
lol Tree the red mage xD. Yeah the arithmetician/calculator's ability in fft can be pretty op lol I remember my friend using it and casting flare like it was free all day. I am more of a monk but I do have much respect for the people who master calculator.
I remember having a late game levelling party on FF11 with two red mages. Normally you'd have to stop to let the healer(s) rest to get their MP back, but these two RDMs just kept refreshing themselves and playing smart, fastest levelling party I've ever been in.
In Tactics A2 Grimoire of the Rift, I think the best job combination for Humes was Ninja+Seer (Ninja with Sage abilities) Ninja for Dual Wield to double atk Seer for “Magic Frenzy” allowing you to cast a magic following it up with physical atks to up to 5 enemies in a single turn. Because of dual wield the physical atk follow-up was doubled. So you turn 1 atk into 3 to up to 5 enemies at once.
Imo it was better to add blue mage into the mix. Blue mage + seer means you can use magic frenzy on blue mage spells, which use atk for their damage, and can still grab the ninja duel wield suppurt for twin scimitars.
Minor error, Mascot doesn't have access to Blue Bullet abilities. Yuna can use Warrior and Dark Knight, Rikku can use White Mage and Berserker and Paine can use Samurai and Black mage abilities
Imagine a Tactics player getting full marks on every math test and when someone asks how they did it, they say it's because they mained the Arithmetician job 😂
The only other job I would have included in this if given one more slot is the Ninja from FFXIV. Because of Trick Attack and utility such as Goad, they were mandatory in high end raiding from their introduction through Stormblood. Hands down the most broken job the game has ever had.
I would mention Summoner, Blue Mage and most importantly Breaker for Stranger of Paradise, but good list and in the base game, no updates released, Cyclic Warrior was absolutely unstoppable when paired with Red Mage My personal job is Sage, because I gotta cast spells, Black Mage for life!
When in doubt, in the PS1 version of Tactics, you could put your Calculator on Auto-Battle and it would do the math bits for you to choose the formula that would hit the enemies the most while limiting damage to your party, if not outright avoid it entirely.
Your info on FF11's RDM was mostly wrong. The RDM had "Fast Cast" which reduced casting time of spells. In addition, they had "Chainspell" as the 2hr ability. It allowed you to spam magic as quickly as you could mash the button (more or less). RDM also had the unique ability of "Convert" which swapped the RDM's HP and MP with each other. It's been a long time since I mained RDM in 11 so unless they added it after I left the game they didn't have "Dual Cast". The RDM in 11 was mainly a buffer/debuffer. However, outside of soloing dropped off considerably in the melee department and after lvl 30 (again more or less) was regulated to the back with the other mages.
I was a big fan of DRK in Stranger of Paradise and SCH in 14. Never really got the hang of Cyclic Warrior or managed to get any level 500 gear. I think my highest gear on SoP was right around 401 for my Sage and Paladin sets 😅
I only recently picked up Sage in FF14 and I'm really not comfortable with it yet. Certainly powerful but hard to wrap my head around. And Red Mage...somehow I managed to level the class all the way to 60 (from 50) while doing the spell rotation completely and utterly WRONG, lol! Definitely sending this to my brother so he can froth at the mouth (again) about Chocobo Knights, and about Tactics in general, haha!
Not mentioning arithmeticians was criminal xD such a funny job so many possibilities Ff X-2 is kinda tough. Ok mascotte are the best stat eise but that luck reel from lady fortune or those alchemists...
FFTA2 Red Mage with Elementalist as sub, dual casting Fire Whip and Boulder Crush to bully your enemies to death while they wasted their turns being able to do nothing
Yaaaaaas FFXI RDM. Honestly it's kind of a tie between RDM and BLU for most busted job in the game but I think RDM edges it out because it doesn't have any parts of its kit restricted the way BLU does (both are monstrously OP when fully kitted out) EDIT: Chainspell doesn't work that way, it makes ALL spells instant for 30s
The arithmetician/calculator job is NOT a good job at all. It's the class's ability that is great and even broken, only if the ability is used by another job. If you let your character stay in the math job/class, your character will die.
@@paulodelima5705 Chemist is more broken than Mime on boss battles, but its lack of multi-targeting is a problem that makes it less suitable for random encounters than Mime. Chemist also uses a lot of expensive resources, while Mime conserves resources and is more flexible in how it can be used.
