You are the first professional who has identified a bone spur on the top of the foot, the “Metatarsal Cuniform Joint!” I am always amazed how some doctors dont have a clue! Much, much thanks!
@@silverstone9952 I’m experiencing top of foot pain in this area. I don’t recall my report of findings from either MRI or X-rays mentioning a bone spur. However, that does not necessarily rule out the beginning of a bone spur forming that is not yet detectable. At least in my opinion. Time and further films will only tell. I do understand that there’s arthritis in this area, which demands consistent movement/rehab or it literally feels like it’s locking up. And it will, if not tended to. At least I understand and know I cannot neglect it, or I’ll suffer the consequences. I've been experiencing some pain at the top part of my foot and your video and suggestions are greatly helping in pain relief. The lacing adjustment completely blew my mind how much a difference it made. Thank you.
So pleased I came across your video. I too have had pain in the top of my feet, especially my right foot. 11 years ago I saw a Podiatrist and was suggested to wear Brooks Beasts (mens since they have more foot room) with an orthotics and this has worked good until this past year. I had a knee replacement 12 years ago. I had a desk job and could tell when I had to walk that the top of my foot was hurting. When I'd get home from work I would take off my shoes and within 10 minutes they would feel better walking around barefoot. I got lower profile orthotics and it did not help. When I saw your video and changed the shoe laces so that top of the foot did not have the laces crossed it was instant relief! I recently retired early September and now help watch my grandchilden who keep me moving! The foot pain got WORSE and then I found your video! Feeling so much better now. Will have to follow up on stretching and exercises.
This is the best information yet I have found. I too have the exact same problems except I have developed a new symptom with bruising underneath the same foot. After doing some research I found out that I have a stone bruise. I noticed this last year for the very first time and then it happened again just recently. My problems are all contained on my right foot where I also have a rotated hip which rotates back and down on the same side. Thank you for your help.
Does a bone spur cause extreme foot pain and swelling? I just had an x-ray that said I have a bone spur on the top of my foot. When I get up from sitting and begin to walk, the pain is awful. I only had open shoes, so it is not from a tight shoe. Thanks. Your video is very informative.

I don’t have any bunions but i’m pretty sure I have the rest. the top of my foot is larger and rounded and I get pain directly in the middle all the time
I have RA and OA arthritis in my feet and xrays yesterday confirmed the area on the top of my feet, which explains a lot of my pain and the big bump there I have. My question is because my Podiatrist didn’t answer. My question is I have flat feet now- I used to have a decent arch, but over the past 20 years my feet went completely flat. Wondering if I should or could address that as far as the arthritis in the top of my feet are concerned. I also currently have Achilles tendinitis on one ankle and a bone spur, and was given a boot to wear . I need to get my knees replaced also so wearing the boot is going to be very hard for me I’m sure . I’m just wondering about the flat feet that nobody talks to me about and if it explains a lot of the pain I have . And my walking is probably not correct … the Podiatrist did mention to me yesterday that I have a ‘deformity’- that’s the word he used. I don’t know if he told me the name of it, but it means my feet point in word.. He said it’s something I was born with. I’m 65 now.
I’m not sure if you’re still actively responding to comments here, but I thought I’d explain my situation About a month ago I started a job where I work 8 hours a day, 3 consecutive days a week walking around on my feet. Prior to this I didn’t exercise frequently. Immediately after started the job I started experiencing foot and leg pain which is to be expected because I am not used to it. Btw I have been wearing an old pair of running shoes to work since they are the best ones I have to wear for this. The pain doesn’t really go away on my days off. It decreases until it’s more tolerable though. Recently it has been a bit better but I’ve started to become concerned about my right foot. My left foot is usually fine for the most part, but my right foot has a lot of pain. It isn’t a muscle pain though. The pain is in the upper top part of my foot. I believe it’s where the cuneiform bone is? I only have a very slight bump right there though, it is not like the lady in the video, though it is in the same area. After work that foot tends to hurt a lot more than my left, and the pain extends down into the base of my big toe. If I move my big toe the wrong way I can feel the pain going up my foot. This is more of an aching pain. Today(my second day off work), I noticed that my foot feels fine, but if I apply pressure to the bone part at the top of my foot then it causes a sharp pain. I’m just concerned because I find it weird that it’s only my right foot that hurts like this. If I try running or anything that’s a little straining to the foot then the pain starts up again only in my right foot. I don’t know if it’s something that just comes with the job and will go away with time or if it could be something like a stress injury? I’ve also considered if one leg might be slightly longer than the other as well causing me to put more pressure onto my right foot? That is something my grandmother has mentioned having issues with, but I do not know many details about.
Can you please go a step further, explain surgery for the bone spur, length of recuperation, ability to bear weight or not and can you drive? The pain of the bone spur affects my gait and makes me limp and also have hip discomfort.
Have achy/ pain on top both feet. Just from walking but up little inclined. Went to podiatrist 2018 X-rays should healthy feet. I was told to buy orthopedic inserts but were expensive and not to walk uphill. It’s back again waiting to see podiatrist Do you think tendons are irritated? The area between tendons feels sore like a sore muscle feels
I have a tightness at the top of my foot. Extending from the ankle to my big toe. Is this the same situation? It's right above the arch area. Any suggestions?
I can't believe I've come across this video now. I've had this pain for so long it's actually becoming debilitating and walking is proving difficult. I've had x-rays, an MRI and had a steroid injection (its effect wore off after 5 months!) and it's getting worse. I'm in Ireland - should I go back to doctor and/or podiatrist? Any suggestions are more than welcome. Thanks.
After being conservative by doing the shoe lace trick and cutting off the top flap of my shoes with left metatarsal bone spur i eventually had surgical removal of it. Ouch!
I have worn cartilage on the inside of both knees causing me to be bowlegged when walking. I suspect this is what caused my top foot pain and ankle pain.
Are those orthotics made specifically for her feet or can we purchase those somewhere? I also have pain on the top of my feet, but I sometimes also have some pain on the upper side of my feet. What should I do about that? I love wearing my Burkenstock sandals so I thought that maybe I should buy the Burkenstock shoes. Well, the shoes are a little constrictive for my wide feet. So I took the inserts out of the shoes and put them in my New Balance shoes. But I still have pain in my feet.

I have leg shape issues! Have all my life !! Could you help me figure out what is wrong with me ? And if there is ANYTHING I could do ? My legs have made me literally hate life :( I’ve wondered all my life what is wrong with me.
I just naturally started to tie my shoes differently and it's a big help. My arch supports and my bone spur are constantly competing with each other to see which one can give me the most trouble! I wear different shoes every day and change them also in the middle of the day if I'm working.
I try to wear different shoes all the time too. My car looks like a shoe store but to alleviate pain in a particular spot it is needed. I was pretty sure it was from arthritis because I had that already in childhood. However now bone spurs start and that is mighty painful. I am going to begin to take supplements for joint support, cartilage support and bone support. When looking at all the different ways in which this type of health is impacted and how it may be possible to see small positive changes I realized that this will likely be something that has to be applied for a long time, possibly a life long health aide to combat additional aging. Perhaps if I see it as as vital as the daily blood pressure pill that keeps me in a safe range then I will be able to better befriend the idea that this will also be a lifelong adjustment. I do remember the great satisfaction I get when I have gotten a diagnosis correct and with the help of supplements I choose successes can be registered. This is the outcome I am hoping for because then everything was worth it.
I am a nurse and I’m on my feet for 16 hours at times. I put in about 19k steps on average. My feet are killing me! I have the same issue the woman in your video has. I have had bilateral halluc valgus osteomy 15 years ago and I still have pain. I am interested in the orthotics. Do you have a separate video on that??!

Hi Great Video. I have exactly what you describe. I have Arthritis at 65. No obesity. My gate is off due to pain. Thought I would walk for exercise. But.... That is a bad idea. I used your lace procedure. That HELPED a lot. What Orthotic? I have a Medium Arch. Size 9.5. Wide of course. Thanks for the video!!! You are the foot Magician!! I can only wear SAS. 240.00 Per pair. Thanks Again! Ben

Great video, I’m 54yof and I jumped out of my ambulance last week and I now have severe pain in the top of my foot. I’m limping atm and find if I turn in the wrong direction I have excruciating pain across the top of my foot. Do you think this is something that I should get investigated or it may just heal over time? I know nothing about feet. Thx Late
I have started getting this pain since last one week.... On the top of the foot on my right leg...i want to know the reasons for the pain...
I think I have this, but my foot is swollen around the area on top the foot too… I’m panicking incase it’s a blood clot!
This spur is really troubling me too.what exercise can help me
m 43yr female had arthritist suffering alot while walking . so much pain on the foot n under the foot dr always suggested medication n lose some weight n i dont understand the video please someone guide
I’m 65 now.
I’m not sure if you’re still actively responding to comments here, but I thought I’d explain my situation
About a month ago I started a job where I work 8 hours a day, 3 consecutive days a week walking around on my feet.
Wow, I am having very similar problem. Right now on top of my foot is swollen and I am in so much pain
Sorry to hear that
Same it's hurting so much :(
I have a tightness at the top of my foot. Extending from the ankle to my big toe. Is this the same situation? It's right above the arch area. Any suggestions?
thanks a million great tip on the shoe laces
You are so welcome Denise!
Thanks.
What did the mri say
After being conservative by doing the shoe lace trick and cutting off the top flap of my shoes with left metatarsal bone spur i eventually had surgical removal of it. Ouch!
Man! Never thought to adjust my shoe laces. I have started to use a half size bigger though.
I have worn cartilage on the inside of both knees causing me to be bowlegged when walking. I suspect this is what caused my top foot pain and ankle pain.
I hv this pain from last year nd nothing works let's see wht can we do now
What over the counter medication or ointment reliefs on top of foot spur?
My feet is just like her's and it hurts bad how can I get a pair .my feet easy like her's however it's paining bad.. thought I had a blockage
Hi...A few months ago I overcame gout in my right foot then just recently I had it for a short while in my left foot. then it went but now I have a pain in the top and side of my foot. Particularly a small sore red area on the side of the foot. In the early morning I also have bad cramp in the same leg and calf muscle. At the moment my foot is slihghtly swollen too. It is so painful at times I have to to resort to Ibuprofen and painkillers. Any advice gratefuly received.......
Would love to know if she found a wider, deeper shoe that works for her -- or if you have one to recommend. Thanks.
I am having this pain in addition to femoral nerve pain and sciatica. I am not able to find any good physiotherapist around me (Bhopal, India). What should I do?
Hi.. I took MRI scan in that osteoarthritis changes in 2 nd metatarsophalangeal joint with subchondral cysts and edema.. what to do.. surgery is the option . My age is 60.. any other treatment is there..reply me thanks..
What insert do you suggest? I’m suffering
I'm having small sharp pinch on top of foot
My foot started hurting since last Thursday (On top) I thought that maybe a snake or spider had bitten me while jogging/hiking. lol. I adjusted my shoes hopping this method work for me because I'm suffering. My appointment it's not till Sep15.
Thanks doctor. I certainly appreciate your technique it made clear sense to me.
I hope you feel better soon!
The funny thing is, when I'm walking up and down it not painting but if I sit and when is time for me to get up and walk again. I have pain like crazy
Great information, welcome from Nepal
I am a nurse and I’m on my feet for 16 hours at times. I put in about 19k steps on average. My feet are killing me! I have the same issue the woman in your video has. I have had bilateral halluc valgus osteomy 15 years ago and I still have pain. I am interested in the orthotics. Do you have a separate video on that??!
Appreciate your video very helpful
