Excellent! Thank you for the video. I am faced with trying to repair my ONN ONC50UB18C05 50" TV, which decided, after 3 years of excellent service, to no longer turn on. The only LED indicator performs as it should when both the power on button on the back and on the remote are pressed, but the screen remains dark. No backlight and nothing visible on the screen with the flashlight test. I've searched and found mention that the EEPROM is a common failure point that *may* cause this symptom. In my 4 decades of working on IT equipment I always seen EEPROMs in circuits to save user settings, not operational firmware, as that would be either mask ROM or some other RO memory. But I'm willing to try replacing the Winband 25Q64JVSIO chip given it's low price and see if that fixes it. Your video was helpful in giving me a glimpse of the signal waveforms, because before I remove the old IC it would be nice to base line the before versus after waveforms, like you did. Your shop is very well equipped I must say.
Very informative, thank you. I have a multimeter voltage tester but not an oscilloscope, so I'd have to invest in one. It's amazing that one little chip can cause an entire TV set to not work, and given the cost of the EEPROM ($10 in your video, about $15 today), it's sad people will throw away an entire TV set worth hundreds, even thousands, of dollars over a $10-15 part.
Come on man... we know you and we know that with a well-equipped RT809H programmer you will teach us even the eMMC memories, it's only a matter of time... greetings from Mexico.
Enjoyed the video. I’m having issues with my tv doing the same as the tv on this video. I can not tell which is the correct eeprom on my main board. I really don’t have the proper set up to do any repair. Do you test and repair main boards? I would hate to replace the main board if it’s only a eeprom. Big difference in price. If you by chance do except boards for repair please provide your information.
I’m working on this same TV with the same symptoms. However I changed the eeprom and it did not fix the problem. I did find heating the area with the heat sink made the TV work again. However it was short lived. I believe the problem is the soldering joints on the main processor. Have not had time to remove heat sink and look into it any further. I look forward to your update video to see what the final resolution is. Thanks again for the great videos
Any update on this TV. I got the heat sink off. Haven’t decided if I should reflow or remove and reball. Just curious what you did or your thoughts are?
@@prideroofing3178 Just try to reflow first. I start with about 400 degrees for about 3 minutes, slightly pressing down on the IC with something once It gets warm.
Very useful information but like a novice Diy guy, what if I don't own a oscilloscope, is there another way we can test? Isn't there a EEPROM reader we can buy?

I have a question. I replaced the leds on my tcl 32s301 everything went fine until I started to put in the outer bezel for the screen as I have to squeeze a little to get it to clip on. I was very careful and I still broke the screen. Now the tv is garbage. Do u have any pointers on how to do this without damaging or breaking the screen? Like I said I did it very carefully and it didn’t work. Is there a trick on how to snap the bezel back in without putting pressure at all? Thanks
If you still have sound then wiggle the Long Flat ribbon connector going from main board down to t-con board to make sure the problem is not a bad connector going to the t-con. If good then just chance buying the $20 EEPRom chip. Personally I never seen that problem being a bad eeprom chip.
Great info on EEPROMs by the way. I loved the way you laid out the video, with the TV, the computer screen displaying the pinout, and everything you did. Very well done especially that intro! You get my sub and like. Were you able to fix the TV in the end? Any follow-up on this one?
😥A CLK SIGNAL IS THE BASIC THAT CREATED WITH THE PROCESSOR WHEN IT'S POWER UP. Sir, if you did not see a clk signal, probably means u are shorting ur gnd or vcc with ur new IC. Try removing the new IC leaving the emply tread mounting, power the tv up again see if the clock signal comes back.
Hi, I've got the E522VL Vizio Model and was wondering if you would know which one is the correct eeprom? TV is stuck on logo, I tried to tell it apart from size like u said but they are all the same size and I can't find a diagram for this board anywhere. Thank you

The mainboard part number must be exactly the same and probably there is a different panel type in every model. The eeprom will not work because there are differences in the software also and reading a few only bytes from the memory the processor tracks the error and stops.Software eeproms and nand on modern televisions are turning to a huge problem to the repairing process unless you own an authorized service center and deal with the same brand and models everyday so is easy to duplicate each model eeprom.Otherwise things are leading to disaster.
