  • How to check fuses, diodes, transistors, mosfet, voltage regulators in circuit and out of circuit boards, if TV doesn't turn on or has no red standby light then check the power supply fuses. Some fuses can blow out during a surge or lightning strike or shorted diode or transistor goes out.

This is by far the most helpful video I have found on this subject. I have an LED grow light and one of the drivers blew a resistor and I replaced it and it just blew the new one as well. I figured there had to be another issue somewhere down the line, so I have been trying to find a video to tell me how I can test each part of the driver. I haven't gotten to it yet but once I do this video is going to be a great help. Thanks so much, keep making great informative videos and I'll keep watching!

Thanks for explaining in simple terms how to check transistors and diodes. It appears that using the diode mode rather than the ohm setting on your meter is a much easier way to tell if you've got a bad one.

Its good to learn about basic electronics, but the truth is they do not teach of how to determine in bipolar transistor it is PNP or it is NPN and how to know by tester its pin is base, colecctor, emitter by reading not by position of a transistor or MOSFET transistor

Sub'd a while ago, but didn't thumbs up/comment (my Son just explained the importance of doing those things) so I'm back to correct that while refreshing my memory on the parts & procedure needed to fix our 42" Phillips TV! Your info/vids helped me identify the problem & clearly showed me how to repair it using a repair kit (or the easier but more costly replacement power supply board) however I wasn't confident enough with my soldering skills to attempt the repair at the time I found your vids (might have tried despite my fear if our TV only needed 1 or 2 things soldered but the amount of obviously bad "bits"on ours & amounts recommended to be changed or contained in the repair kit far exceeded my DIY bravery LOL) & I haven't been able to swing the cost of a new PS Board so the TV has just been collecting dust.... I quit watching TV a couple years ago so it hasn't bothered me but my Son is a gamer & really misses the big screen...his only wish for Xmas this year is having the TV repaired so I'm hoping to gain enough confidence to do the repair by watching more of your helpful vids...wish me luck!!!

This is super helpful. I am trying to fix a Halloween inflatable that has the "short circuit" light effect. These are "simple" circuit boards, however I am not a technician. I have tested everything on the 2 small circuit boards. There seems to be a transistor that is not functioning. Sadly I have tried finding the transistor number and have had no luck what so ever. Thanks so much for the great video it really helped a non technician like me.

Thanks for the great video! I have a little knowledge on electronics. I decided to dedicate some time to learn more about it because I have a few amplified speakers which don't turn on and my mission is to be able to fix them myself using only youtube videos like this one and others where they do repairs and explain how amplifiers work... Hopefully it doesn't take too much time. I saw a comment on a website where a guy mentioned "check the MOSFETs they may be the reason of the speakers not turning on.."
