Nice looking. Wish it was around couple years ago. built my own long ago with AOC 13 inch display, R-pi 4 4gb, vesa rpi mount, usb keyboard and mouse & touch overlay from old Fujitsu tablet. $189 not counting the donated touch screen.

It's a lot really. Could just attach the Pi to the VESA mount on the back of a monitor, then get a keyboard and mouse to achieve the same thing really.

Yeah I was shocked by the price, too.
You can get a portable 15,6" Touchscreen for ~ 150$
If you add the pi, SSD and a keyboard to it you are looking at another 100$ maybe. But that is consumer prices. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Could you show devices like this running a suite of office apps on the future, please? I don't know much about using a Raspberry PI as a productivity device, so Office software, connecting and printing from several regular and commonly-found printers, photo/picture editing/drawing, file managers, access to Google Drive, connecting exHDs, etc would be great.
    Cheers.

Those will work just fine, but printers is going a bit tricky because you have to make sure to find correct driver to install. CUPS might be a solution for that.
Picture editing is also just fine, but not with video editing because the GPU is not be able to handle heavy task on GPU IMO

  • @brookewestonctc
    @brookewestonctc 3 роки тому +31

Unjustifiable at that price. It's in the range of a low end AIO windows PC (and double the cost of second hand one). The whole point of RPI is its low cost. Charging the same as a (much better) PC is absurd.

Too bad Raspberry pulled a OnePlus and now it's nowhere near as cheap as it was back in the Pi1 days. Well, unless you are okay with the Pi Zero's performance. Too bad there's really no competition if you consider the software support and community where the Raspberry is miles ahead everyone else.

@ You have to admit, that first pi was really near useless for most tasks. For use as a microcontroller it was fine, but it had no practical use as a dedicated computer. I mean 256/512mb of ram in 2012 was near useless (again, outside of dedicated microcontroller style tasks). At least the Pi4 can be used for many desktop computing tasks.

That tends to be the problem with many Pi-derived products unfortunately. The 4(00) is/are pretty decent value by themselves (including cooling for the 4 and the accessories you need to buy for them, if any) but with the products built around them, you can get better performance (and generally better all round, for the most part) for lower cost.
If you’re building and designing the products yourself though, that’s something else but getting them prebuilt, I struggle to see why anyone would.

I have some constructive criticism. I'm not sure what causes this, since you are using 4k60 footage, could be your shutter speed, codec or camera or something else, but your footage is oddly blurred during motion. The panning shots around 2:20 when looked at on a good 4k monitor is oddly blurry or "jittery"? Hard to describe but this is the first time I noticed it on a video. It's hard to see detail during that panning.

nice unit, for sure. But 340$, on top of that you have to add your compute module, so you are in for almost 400$.
I understand that this has a cost to develop and manufacture on a small scale, but the value is definitely not there. And that is coming from a raspi fan (i have all the models from the start until now). For cheaper there was this laptop for a raspberry pi, with also the keyboard included, and a battery, hinge, etc...
for same or lower price, you can get all in ones with beefier cpus, or cool laptops...
Get something like that for 150-200$ (less features if need be).
Would make for a nice setup for kiosk mode, but not at 400$.

Building one yourself using a laptop spare 1080p display cost you just half that. if you don't mind 768p you can get away with even less and more display options.
Mind you the option for touch cost 60$ more, so 399$ when you can get a 144hz 1080p display or entry level 1440p 75hz + a pi4 8gb minus the touch for the same price in a worst case scenario. Heck, you could even pick up one of those portable 1080p or even 4k display and add in a 8gb pi 4 and still save some money.

Would be nice if they could find a way to install a UDOO RYZEN Bolt V1000 into the same display.

Can you also test the touchscreen for music game like Project Sekai or Idolmaster Cinderella Girls. I want to know the best touchscreen for some games like this but no one on youtube did it sadly

Loads so much faster than the SD card. The Pi is crap slow on the SD.

It's just sad that the pi foundation has shown no real interest in releasing a truly powerful SBC. The Pi4 is nice, but is about on par with a budget phone / tablet for performance. Would love it if they could release something as powerful as the Snapdragon 865 with 8+ GB of memory. They could support both the maker / budget friendly market while still offering a higher end product for those of use that want it. And yes, I own a Pi4 8GB, it's underwhelming....

Whilst it looks like a neat idea, it's damn expensive really. For the non-touch, it's about £250, with the near bottom of the range compute module (2G DDR, and no WiFi, or eMMC). But for 22 inch monitor (£95 or £120 with speakers) and Pi400 Kit (£100), I'd end up with a better Pi4 (4GB with wireless and overclocked) and I could actually plug something else into the monitor too if I wanted.
Who thought it was a good idea to build a monitor that wouldn't take a video feed in?
Also, who even makes 15 inch monitors any more other than for crappy laptops?
22 inch Iiyama touchscreen monitor £195 plus the Pi400 Kit for £100 and you blow this thing out of the water (assuming the Pi will recognize the touchscreen monitor) for about the same price. And I'm not even overly keen on the Pi400, I think it should have used a compute module rather than being a fixed spec, but it's still better than this.
With a little looking you could probably even get a VESA case for a Pi4 and stick it on the back of the monitor, add a Microsoft Wireless Keyboard for £30 and you can get rid of the wires.
