So unimpressed with Subaru. My Ford is at 208,000 miles on its original clutch and bearing. We've had 4 Fords with manuals, all made at least 180,000 miles (before rusting out in the Michigan salt season), none have ever needed clutch work.
@@RoccoReviews True. I live in a flat area and do a lot of highway miles. Environment matters too. Also just a look on JustRolledIn shows that a sufficiently clueless driver can completely grenade a clutch in 50 miles.
Ah, that sounds is all too familiar!!! Throw out bearing!! But you've done this clutch job before? I assume same video as 2017 Montana trip? Has to be same suburu video?
Hi Ivan, I know this isn't your usual deal, but a more casual mechanical repair video would be nice if you haven't already done the repair. Much like the old Mystique series :)
I’d love to hear your thing on how to help us home mechanics that don’t have a lift. Do you recommend car ramps, if so plastic or metal? Any other idea to make jobs like a transmission drop easier?
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics Thanks. I need to find some lower jack stands. My car sits low and big jack stands has the car severely angled if I only need to jack up one side.
Pilot bearing only spins once the clutch plate releases. The throwout bearing starts to spin as soon as it makes contact with the pressure plate, so this is definitely the throwout bearing making the noise👍
Not sure what year that is but I've got a 2007 that's on it's 7th or 8th throwout bearing. I can't seem to get one to last. They always have a little squeal or noise unless you ride your foot on the clutch and slightly depress the pedal. Actually had one blow up on me a few hours from home and had to tow it back home. Car has 250K on it.
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics it’s just the bearings. I think I’m only on my second clutch. It’s like there’s something wrong with the way it releases and the bearing rides ever so slightly on the fingers of the pressure plate so it’s constantly spinning and gets prematurely worn and starts squeaking. I did see someone had modified theirs to have a spring pulling slight tension back on the clutch fork to get it to release all the way. After the first one blew up I get nervous and change it when it starts making noise.
Really? 9 out of 10 times I've seen the disc wear thin and start to slip before the throw out bearing seizes up! Only other bad bearing was on that 09 Forester that left my friend stranded in Montana ;)
@@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics Peugeot/Citroën it's pretty much always like that. The disc is pretty worn at that point always but it's always the bearing that gives out first.
Any slipping? If not the car still has some time. Not much, maybe a couple of weeks at most. When it starts to slip, it's a death trap. Punch it on the on ramp, the engine redlines and you are still going 30. Then you put your Pikachu face on.
@@viking.200 ….and then he sold it to his neighbor who was one of my customers, blah blah blah….I do love Scotty though, and Ivan, both entertaining in different ways!
I've found that cars that are used primarily for inner city driving can wear out a release bearing quicker than the disc from waiting at traffic lights and stop and go driving.
It's just the built in diagnostics telling you that it can only be operated by a homosexual. It's a manual transmission so based on how to put your hand around the shifter it told the transmission module to sound the audible alarm to not be driven by a straight person. Basically, you're not Gay enough to drive an outback.
sound like the trow out bearing...i hate that noise
Cheap part too, not hard to swap on a brz but can't imagine the pain on a AWD car
The throwout bearing must be toasted. Completely seized up.
I knew from the "shorts" thumbnail that this was Pinehollow. I can recognize Ivan's sandals anywhere.😂😂😂
How can you be certain without the picometer results?
The duty cycle of the throw out bearing is at 100% F*cked!
Let's spend the better part of an hour reading thru unrelated wiring diagrams hoping for a no parts required diagnosis.
yup it needs a throwout bearing
Them “Jerusalem Cruisers” though!
Pimpin’! 🤣
Hate when the clutch outlives it's counterparts!

Throw-out bearing anyway!
Ive fixed tbis problem by honking a bunch of ac90 past the clutch fork boot lol, noise didnt come back, throwout saved 👌
Awesome seeing you on shorts too!!!
Have not heard that unmistakable sound since 1970.
I miss those old, simple transmissions.
Ivan, that's what happens when you're granny shifting and not double clutching.
Wouldn't double clutching cause twice as much wear on the throw-out bearing?
@@BigBlockSeason Missed the Fast & Furious reference 😄
Tim, you missed the Fast and Furious reference, but yes, double clutching is twice the wear on the throw-out bearing.

Definitely needs a thrust bearing, so yep, you'll be replacing the clutch at the same time👍🤣
your mom needs a thrust bearing
Definitely a TOB, but replace all while in there. Don't forget that pilot bearing.
Man I miss my 2008 manual Legacy, one of the best cars to work on and drive.
My saturns leaky oil pan lubes everything. I will never have this problem.
Don't need a scan tool for that diagnosis. 😉
FINNALLY IVAN is doing TikToks The Day is here. Very respectable
riding the clutch causing it screaming bearings and clutc
Are you sure the crankshaft is not magnetized? 😉

Looks like Fred Flintstone footing those pedals
As a Subaru dealer tech. We do a ton of these at the dealer, throw out bearings are real common on the Subbies
no way! what Dealer? I work for Joseph Subaru
Ya'll do a lot of engines to don't ya. Mostly due to lack of oiling .
The scream of tortured metal!!

Harbor Freight hydraulic floor jacks and big jack stands. Ramps are useless and dangerous!

Hey Ivan, please help me find that clip in which you repair new cylinder to the old key??? I really need that now...
Could it be a bad throw out bearing? Or maybe a bad pilot bushing/bearing. Should be a fun one
I still think you should look at some data.
Idk it might be the clutch position sensor and active lubricator
Yep sounds like the throw out bearing. Is the clutch slipping, hard to shift into or out of gear?
It's chattery lol
Throw out bearing too?
That throw out bearing is a unhappy camper 😂😂😂

Pilot bearing only spins once the clutch plate releases. The throwout bearing starts to spin as soon as it makes contact with the pressure plate, so this is definitely the throwout bearing making the noise👍
Let me check my clutch out today then what the best place to buy a clutch?
Is it always called a throw out bearing over in the USA? Over here we call it the clutch release bearing.
And here in Australia we call it the thrust bearing🤣👍🇦🇺
Thrust bearing is goosed!
atleast a throwout bearing

That's effectively what's going on with the diaphragm fingers 🤣
Release bearing worn-out. On that model the stock release bearing will wear off even if the clutch plate still has some life left.
Maybe it's just the bearing, but dismantling the whole thing to get to it, you may as well change the clutch :-)
It's definitely FUBAR lol
This is common with the cars I work on, it's 98% of the time throwout bearing that goes out first.
