@@ronaldderooij1774 If you look up the cost of a used transmission for a 2019 Outlander, you will see them at $3,500+. Any time used engines/transmissions cost that much, it is either something like a Viper or Jaguar, or they are piles of crap. There's a 2012 Suzuki SX4 for sale locally that I want, but the CVT transmission is pooched and there is only one within 200 miles of home, and even then, it is $2,000 with 126,xxx miles. Not that the SX4 is a common vehicle, though. These are all Jatco units. The same manufacturer as the ones used in the Ford Freestyle and DaimlerChrysler used them for awhile as well.
The Subarus don't seem to have much trouble, despite being made by Jatco. The honda civic CVT transmisisons can be had for really cheap, and the Corolla ones aren't terribly expensive, either. I dunno. Mazda is seemingly the only one still using a slush box transmission. Dual-clutch and CVTs are everywhere, making a Hybrid one of the theoretically most reliable drivetrains available in the new market right now. I think Infiniti is still using slush boxes as well.

I have a nissan maxima 2001 , not a CVT. trans started going at 202k miles or so, P0744. did a slow flush via 3x drain and fill with 1k miles between. old fluid was very dark but did not smell bad. after the slow flush using Valvoline Maxlife full synthetic ATF , Lucas and Seafoam transtune additives it became drivable but lost 4th gear (O/D) its been driven this way for 4 years and 41k miles and still going. about to get rid of this car as it served its purpose to give my son something to drive around while he saved up funds for another car and to ride out the higher price of used cars. it now has 243k miles
one thing to note, Nissans are like Fords when they age, their electrical systems turned to mush. almost every problem I have had since about 180k miles has been electrical related by a electrical component breaking or wearing out.

My Jeep Patriot with a CVT transmission (same or similar trans as the Juke)had the same whine, would go into limp mode, changed filter and fluid AND another filter element running between the transmission and cooler, whine gone, works good. See if the Nissan has the same filter, change it, will restore fluid pressure.

@@keysautorepair6038 I disagree. "most mechanics" misdiagnose in this area of the country. If the identifix silver bullet doesn't fix it, they say "it'll have to go to the dealer, we don't have the whatever-tool you need for the job". And of course the dealers seem to be only able to fix cars half a dozen years old at most.

There was the one guy who bought 6 AutoZone coils and plugs for his Pathfinder. He never mentioned the cat being stepped on sound. Just the jerking that it was doing. He had a leak at axle seal. I quoted him for replacing fluid with Nissan and replacing the fluid with Nissan. He laughed at me and said he would buy a new transmission before he did that. I laughed at him and explained he has no idea what that meant. We ended up back and forth. I told him I was only taking cash for payment. He tried really hard to get me to take his credit card. Then he started telling me he was gonna sue me and I needed to take him to the ATM so he could get cash. Back and forth he pulled 5 100 bills out of his pocket. I laughed again and said see that's why I would not take your card. He planned on canceling the charge. Don't ever take a credit card from a disgruntled customer.

That whining sound from that Nissan Juke was so loud. Usually when the trans fluid pump starts whining like that, it's already too late. But the Jeep Liberty, that's a tough call. It could just be a gummed-up valve body. But if there are any signs of metal in the fluid, it's toast.

If you go to the Nissan Stealership when your CVT is acting up, it's too late. Service your CVT often with fresh fluid every 30k miles. That way chances are that you will get a much longer life out of the CVT. Fluid is cheap, Transmission are expensive.

On that Jeep, there should be a menu to show clutch pack wear in %. For giggles, I would've done a clutch pack relearn because sometimes after a repair ( like that sol assembly or even a fluid change on a higher mileage trans) the adaptive strategy is too far biased to recalibrate on it's own. That being said, it may only work properly for a short time, which would prove excessive clutch pack wear. I've always hated the fact that Chryslers have the software immediately dump you into limp mode with the smallest glitch.

Please tell me that your wife no longer owns that car that always breaks down when you are away; like you are now. The problem started out as being an intermittent one as on occasion the trans would not shift out of second, pull off the road and restart the car and the problem would go away for 3 or 4 days and then reappear, replaced the valve body/solenoid pack and now when it goes to shift out of second it does a hard down to first every time. NEVER FLUSH,,,, only drain and refill... when the clutches wear, they put out almost microscopic particles thet embed in the casting inside the transmission, and tend to remain there if they arent caught in the filter,,, when you flush you dislodge all of that clutch material, and it clogs up oil circuits, shift valves, ect, then you start having problems,,, this is why so many have issues after a FLUSH...
