Thanks Bruce for the bike. it is a great bike and I am sure I will enjoy Switzerland even more now. Thanks Again.
sure thing, enjoy :)
These old MTB are great bikes.....yes the ones with no suspension are the better ones.....no worries on using or replacing tired old suspension forks.....mine is an old Trek 950 built in 1992.....set up with drops, wide slicks, fenders, lights and rack.....great commuter, touring and gravel bike.....I have mine since 1997....paid $30 for the frame and fork.....it's my go to bike still today......
I agree and hope to keep this one for a long while
Not a bad bike, I still love that style of bar. Your a good friend for letting him borrow it..I had the same one in 96. I'm currently upgrading the crap out of a next power climber. Yes crappy bike but on a budget with money over time I hope to prove these big box store bikes can become something worth while if you cant afford a g out of your but atm. Thanks for sharing definitely looking forward to your follow up.
Thanks for the good words Mike. I'm hoping to get back to this project very soon. I'm not familiar with that brand but overall I think bike can be good as long as the frame is decent.
Great find ! I loved the 90’s era GT mountain bikes. I too would dream of owning one. I never did but glad you picked one up. Love to see you race it.
Thanks for watching Rolando! Yea if I do enter this up coming race I will surly make a video on it.
This is a great deal and the paintjob is great. At that time was the paintjob absolutly awesome.
And the WD40 is a Universal weapon against all rosty parts😎👍
Man this is a really good Bike and absolutly in a good condition to upgrade ✌😎👍
Best Wishes and Big support from germany
Yea I'm really excited about this humble old GT. Thanks BM for stopping in!
Steel is real
I really think in the end I'll only have steel framed bikes, something I really like about them.
Steel is only one metal which is repairable and reliable after 20 or more years if you don't let it rust. Aluminium is mud, if you tear down thread on some screw or nut, you can throw it to dustbin, but steel is steel. They should make steel at least handlebars and that what is holding it in frame (I don't know english name), I am always afraid I will destroy threads when I want to tighten that, aluminium is really soft mud compared to steel and dural is still aluminium only with noble name.
@@Pidalin I would love to one day have only steel frames, at least I think I'd like that. All the steel bikes I have rode made me happy.
I always use Wd40 to clean my chain
Wd40 is not a lubricant
it does a pretty decent job of getting the gunk off. But I like to use lighter fluid, I feel a little like it's a dirty secret, but it works really well to clean the chain up.
What a deal!
Hey there man, thanks for stopping by!
Not sure but seems that the highest gear sprocket on the rear looks absolutly worn out, as well as the chain most likely. I like GT and the frame is rad but in my opinion you have to let go lot of componants in order to get a smooth ride with it.
Hey Cecile! Thanks for stopping by. I really haven't got a good chance to look it over closely, just got her back from my friend who was borrowing it a couple of days ago. I'll dig into it soon I hope and surly make a detailing what's wrong. I recently got one of them chain checking tools, looking forward to trying it out.
What happened to GT? Seems to have fallen out of favour these days
yeah that's true. I don't see them in professional racing like XC, maybe I'm wrong, but I don't remember seeing them.
@@Kenosha01 Ah yep looks like it.
Hello, how did you confirm this is 95? I have the exact same bike, paint decals etc and have been desperately trying to identify the year. Are you sure this is a 95? If you have confirmed the year somehow I can be confident mine is the same year
It's been awhile since I owned this bike but generally I try to check with the serial numbers, but if that doesn't help I like to look at the original advertisements, sometimes you can match the bike exactly, colors, parts etc. As for this one it's been so long I don't recall if I was really that sure or not.
Keep the bar ends!!
really? They not even like regular bar ends, it's all one piece, sort of just curves around.
@@BruceChastain Bikes from 1995 have bar ends😀
@@BruceChastain If you don't like them, get rid of them...
I can't believe I'm going to say this..... Drop bars?
@@thebikehippie6562 shhh I'm saving that for later, maybe over the winter...
Still got that handlebar?
the original one? I think so I can check if you want it.
@@BruceChastain really that be awesome if you could
@@brokenchopstickz yes I have them. Are you in Switzerland? If you can come get them drop me a line at bruce.chastain@protonmail.ch
Dude please remove that dork disk. It looks hideous.
Tune in for the next episode :)
