Omg! You're a Genius. I've searched and searched and searched. Nowhere on this platform. Thank you for being born into this world. You've have changed my life with this video. Great content. You've also earned a new Subscriber. A million thanks!
Omg! This info is priceless! So many others show you have to edit in landscape and then rotate in QuickTime... like if there wasn't already enough steps to create a video and it already takes forever ... this is massively helpful! Thank you 🙏👌🧡🧡🧡
Nice! Life saver. I was using my phone, rotating videos side ways, editing them in imovie, rotating back. What a mess. Finally. Thank you for saving my life!
This is the best advice on the internet about this topic, all other advices are use your phone or save flipped sideway video than use other app to flip again BS ways. Top advice, thanks again!
THIS IS AWESOME! Thank you! I've been looking all over for this info and it's been right here, and I'm even subscribed. I hope the UA-cam algo figures this out and promotes it more...seriously, I've been experimenting for a month and finally found this!
Thank you, just what I needed. I don't really shoot vertical vids but realize most contents are viewed on phones these days so I wanted to give it a shot. Saved me a ton of money and time
Great job! I've seen other videos on this topic, but this is the best so far. Short, to the point, and it shows a simple way of editing and exporting these videos.
Hi Brian thanx so much this video is super helpful! Nobody has taught this before...I only film vertically using my iPhone...my budget for now. I’m still learning how to use iMovie so any iMovie tutorials especially using the App would be awesome. I appreciate u Dude ⚡️💯
Thank you so much for the tutorial! 👍🏽This is exactly what I have been looking for as rotating the video won't suit my purposes because I need to add subtitles to my vertical video.
It recognizes that it's a vertical video in "my media" but when I drag the video down to edit it rotates it w weird way and has a stretched blurred affect that I can't seem to rotate /: I filmed vertically with a digital camera and using ingredients an SD card to transfer the video files. Please help
Rotate prior to importing in iMovie - support.apple.com/guide/mac-help/perform-quick-actions-in-the-finder-on-mac-mchl97ff9142/mac#:~:text=Control%2Dclick%20the%20file%2C%20then,to%20continue%20rotating%20the%20item.
Thanks man! Very useful! One point, though, that I realise only now: if I import video files that the computer views as natively horizontal (such as when filmed with camcorder, even if it was held vertically) and I turn those horizontal videos to vertical in iMovie, iMovie will still keep the black wings in the export. Now I am going back to verticalise my videos BEFORE importing them and will do all the montage again -- and then hopefully your advice works!
You’re welcome. Starting a new project as a App Preview will only output vertical. If you’re editing vertical in a regular project you’ll have to crop out the black wings.
Hm... I'm a bit confused. When I try to put the finished clip with no black background edges into iMovie, I have the same problem and the video still has the black to the sides. any advice?
For anyone wondering, select all clips & audio, copy then paste in the new app preview with a clip that's vertical and cropped so it pastes seamlessly.
hey there, while exporting it only gives me the option of 1200 x 1600 resolution :S what did I got grown? its a way to fix it without having to start again my movie?

Finally someone who explained this in a simple way!

Saved me so much time. Thanks
Thank you for looking into what "app preview" was and finding the work around to the limitations.
Wow. Who knew? Thanks a bunch for this tutorial.

Thank you so much for this. I was having a ton of trouble trying to edit verticals videos. You’ve got a new subscriber!!
I LOVED this - thank you, thank you! So many other video tutorials drone on and on about who knows what until 2 min into it. This was perfect!
The app preview doesn't appear at the end to export for me.
What if I have a regular video that I want to crop and make into a vertical video? Can I do this in iMovie?

Awesome to hear that! I’ll have more iMovie iPhone videos soon! Have you watch this one yet? ua-cam.com/video/ydDpR7y_9GU/v-deo.html
That's sick!! It worked and it made my life soooo much easier lol. I appreciate you!!
🤩
Thanks! So useful! Experimenting with some stuff for shorts and this is helpful!
My iMovie only seems to export as 1600 x 1200. Any idea how I can change that?
this video was so helpful! thank you
Thank you so much for the tutorial! 👍🏽This is exactly what I have been looking for as rotating the video won't suit my purposes because I need to add subtitles to my vertical video.
Any way to do this with imovie 9.0.9? I don't see the app in the drop down like yours.
It only works for the iphone video. The videos shot with camera doesn't work. I did shoot in vertical. Can you explain how?
Short and to the point... perfect. Thank you!
Super, super helpful. THANK YOU.
Thanks for the additional editing option. Definitely worth subscribing to you.
Brilliant - just what I needed - how come none of the other sites answering this question seem to know about this?
great tip this is sick especially now that everything is a reel

Super useful! Thank you!
What if you don't have any vertical videos to import to begin with? how are you supposed to do this in imovie then?
You can record vertical footage with your phone, then import that into iMovie

wow, thanks so much this really helped me
Subscribed for helping me. Appreciate your work ❤️🙏🏼:)
You can also just export in horizontal, drag it into keynote with a vertical template and the black bars hanging off, and export that.
Just the information I needed! Thank you sir!
This is SO HELPFUL thank you!!
GREAT VIDEO.
Perfect!! Thanks very much!!
THANKS!!! Subscribed!
Right on!!! Thanks for the info 👍

perfect dude... priceless, thanks for share
thanks man, you saved my $20/month )))
I-As per the instructions it works well, but unfortunately it doesn't export in 4K quality.
Thanks, very helpful!
that really helped tnx!
Thank you so much!!!
So helpful! Thanks 🙏
Thank youuuuu 🎉
Fantastic, thanks! You'd think Apple would make this a priority considering the explosion of demand for vertical videos for years now...
What if your video is finished editing in horizontal, can you paste it in the vertical the new app preview?
For anyone wondering, select all clips & audio, copy then paste in the new app preview with a clip that's vertical and cropped so it pastes seamlessly.
@@douglasoliver569 Thanks dude I tried without the vertical clip
Cheers mate! 👍🏆🇬🇧

Amazing can this not be done on your mobile?
It can be done on iMovie for iPhone, but it’s a little bit different. I’ll make a video showing how to.

Thanks
Thanks ;-)

Jesus Christ, you just saved my life. Wish I'd come here a year earlier is all
why is is tis hard why can you not just drag the video to full screen ....
Did not work
Which part?
This pisses me off.. this should be an option already without using this option of a work around.. it also only allows for 1080p res
Your thumbnail shows you holding a phone, but in the vide you use a Mac 🤦🏻♀️

Excellent tips. Thank you!!!
