    Thank you very much for sharing, I learned much more from you everyday . I try to buy decomposed granite but until now I couldn’t find. I’m in Sydney, flower power and some nursery don’t keep it ☹️.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому +2

      They're not available at plant nurseries. I just googled up DECOMPOSED/"CRUSHED" granite for driveways in Sydney and they are available in a lot of places. They are available at landscaping supplies or gravel and sand suppliers and quarries. The only draw back is you have to bring a trailer and buy half a cubic meter which will not last very long if you have a lot of succulents or you can share it with your friends. Hope this helps.

      No I don't dry them at all. In fact I actually get the roots wet first in seasol to remove old soil, then plant them in the soil. For the soil wetter. Look for seaweed(kelp) solution with compost and humic acid.

    Darling Liz excellent Topic u chose, definitely every newbie succulents grower wants to have more succulents babies from their favorite ones. But as I'm learning to grow I find watering as a task tell us how should we people who stay in hot &humid areas should minimize the task of appropiately watering succulents and their babies . As for some time it's difficult to have control on onself we water one and then all succulents in one go?

    Hi Liz, I'm have a couple of problems, when I recieve my purchased sucs from online, they come bare rooted and dry. When I potted them up I was dipping them in kelp/water mixture, ( I don't have the soil wetter but am ordering it today). They started showing signs of being over watered and lost all bottom leaves due to moisture, (I did not water them). I have taken them back out and have them air drying. What am I doing wrong? And if I just pot them up with dry roots I end up losing several bottom leaves from drying up even if I water. Any help on what I should be doing? And what is it you use to prepare them for the winter to strengthen them. Its getting cold here and I've gotta start worrying about the frost. Thanks for all your great videos and information!! Your my go to for succulent care!!

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  Рік тому

      You don't need to use soil wetter. Kelp is good enough to hydrate the dry roots. If they're wrinkly, then best to soak them indoors where it's warm.
      If you bought Echeveria in Autumn, you could pot them straight away in moist soil or dry soil but dunk the bottom half of the pot in some kelp water for a couple of seconds to encourage the roots to grow and reach for the wet soil. Just be aware that a lot of them go dormant at this time. Best time to buy them is on the last month of winter, so they have time to settle in their new environment and start growing roots when the temperature warms up.

    Hi Liz, if you dip your roots in seasol water and plant straight away will this rot the succulents? I'm worried cos I did what you said but from other ppl videos say not too water after repotting for a few days to a week? Is this the same thing? I didn't water the soil after I soak roots in seasol for awhile.

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому +2

      I usually leave it for a week and then check for soil dampness coz depending on the weather; sometimes I don't even water for 2 weeks until I feel that the pot is light. If the moisture is in the bottom of the pot, this encourages the roots to go down and gets established much quicker.

    What is soil wetter?

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому +1

      Soil wetting agents reduce the effects of repellence by lowering the surface tension of the water which improves infiltration. It increases the wettability of hard to wet soils, allowing deeper penetration of water into the root zone and makes it quicker for plants to take in moisture and nutrients.

    What is high nitrogen soil?😊

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому

      The source of nitrogen in soil is due to decomposition of organic matter. The more nitrogen a succulent gets, the faster they grow but the greener they become.

  • @panicmosem5969
    @panicmosem5969 3 роки тому

    I thought that fertilizer high in nitrogen was not recommended for succulents??

    • @GrowingSucculentswithLizK
      @GrowingSucculentswithLizK  3 роки тому

      That is such a generalized idea since there are so many different "GENUS" of succulents. Grown in different parts of the world and condition, each has different growing and fertilizer requirements.

    • @panicmosem5969
      @panicmosem5969 3 роки тому

      @@GrowingSucculentswithLizK I thought that also!! I thought it was funny that something used for growth would be discouraged, unless it had something to do with over-fertilization and burned the plants because of the high nitrogen content. I try using under a 5 on the N-P-K rating.
