Hi Liz, just wanted to come here and thank you for this video bc this video single handedly taught me how to make a really good mix for my climate. Majority of people here find it impossible to grow succulents and that too colorful ones and I've succeeded in doing it thanks to all of your lovely videos. Our climate gets 2-3months of rain with 38°c+ summers and winters dont gk below 10 either yet my babies had been very colorful and unproblematic. For years i didn't understand how to keep them alive but for the past 2years I've been very successful. Hi Liz, I’m a little confused, only because in the “colouring up” mix, I thought that Coco Peat would hold moisture and then not produce the stress you are after? Please help me understand how the coco coir helps….thankyou in advance 🙏🏼
The color of the husk is an indication of presence of minerals. Over time, it will break down and the succulent will absorb the minerals through the water therefore coloring the succulents.

Sounds like it’s best to start using a diva soil mix first to check out their resistance. So when you decide that it needs a non diva mix? Your succulents are gorgeous. Thank you for sharing..
Thanks for watching Maria Jenny. The problem with the Diva soil mix is it's hard to give out babies. I prefer to grow most of them on my master soil mix or Intermediate soil mix first so they can have babies and then I put them in the diva mix.
I have been looking for the granite in Sydney but I could not find it. Please share the photos of the granite bag so it will be easier for me to look for. Thank you😁

I finally found decomposed granite (per your advice). However, after rinsing them I did not get big pieces like you, but about half the size of your smaller pieces in this video. Could I still use them in my own Advance Soil Mix?
Liz if I may ask another question. Can you tell me the exact ingredients in the potting mix you use? I’d like to make my own. Maybe check the bag you buy? Thanks!
@@arshadabdullah7425 It says on the packet....This product is made from organic materials, including composted pinebark and contains living micro organisms including bacteria, fungi and protosoa. May also contain mineral and fertilizer additives.
Hi Liz This is awesome. I would like to follow your soil recipe. Can you please let me know the name of the fertilizer you use? I cannot see here in Texas that big tablets like fertilizer?
Growing Succulents with LizK Mam I already heard the name in your video. It will be great help if you can share the ingredients so that I can find any alternative or if you can share a picture with us. Thank you so very much.
Hi liz. All the stuff you mentioned here i dont have majority of the mix. I love all of your succs esp the colors of all of them. I want to have all of mine colored as well but dont have the proper ingredients.
All of the ingredients I use on my soil mix are available all over the world. You may just have to research what the alternative brand names are. Only my particular decomposed granite may be difficult but you can use other decomposed granite or pumice and add 5% zeolite for the mineral component similar to decomposed granite.
Wow! Learned So much Useful information today! I took notes and will be buying granite , coir, and seamungus. I never heard of seamungus before, but it must be amazing. This will take my plants to the highest level👍🏻
Hi liz, for crested succulents like aeonium or agavoides or simple moonstone ones, do you use your diva advance soil mix or is it better planted on other type of soil mix. Thank you. I was reviewing again your soil mix as here in Phil its near Summer so i am thinking of changing my soil mixture.
First of all, I don't touch any of my plants in summer since most of them are dormant when temperatures are really high. All the plants you mention have different soil mix requirement, dormancy period, water requirement. They also have different times that they can be propagated or take cuttings that will make them grow fast. The pot you use will also dictates what soil mix would suit them. Aeonium loves water so it needs a loamy fast draining soil. Agavoides likes a drier soil which means they need to be soaked when watering and left to dry out before watering again. If planted it in a CERAMIC POT, I use a DIVA SOIL MIX. If planted in terracotta pot, I use a TROPICAL SOIL MIX if grown outdoors and Master succulents soil mix if grown in area protected from the rain. Pachyphytum MOONSTONE will grow in Master and Tropical soil mix. Can be watered a lot or not. They grow much easier compared to....Graptopetalum Lavender Pebbles "MOONSTONE" soil mix is dependent on the type of pot use. Otherwise, use the same as agavoides.
Thank you for the comment and link below for the granite. I get it from Corkhill Bros. Landscaping Supplier in Mitchell, ACT. Link below and pick the yellow granite. www.corkhillbros.com.au/landscaping-supplies-canberra/granites-canberra/
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Thank u so much for replying dear 😻🙏 most of the time i use river sand & perlite, bark etc but granite looks good for top dressing also 😊

That would be great! Then I can have you gaining knowledge on cleaning out my garden...LOL But seriously, I'm putting out through my videos as much as I can learn myself. So just watch my video and you'd be right. Thanks!
Wow! Just beautiful succulents! I consider myself a beginner in succulents because I actually had one that's surviving and growing out beautifully, but it's to a point where it has been growing over and leaning out. Now I have to separate them into other pots and propagate the leaves for more. I love your advance soil mix. Do you sell them too? Or do you know of any other brands that are great soil mix that I can buy? Looking forward to learning more from your vids!
Hi Reese, I need to make a correction. I just had a look at the Pea Gravel that's available in your area. It's not what I had in mind. I will find a better alternative for granite. Will be posting a video on it.
@@resseshihata5976 The Pea gravel I was thinking was limestone base with quartz and feldspar. There are so many different volcanic rocks that it's hard to pin point exactly which particular type to use and this is why I chose decomposed granite.
Love the term “DIVA” 😆😆 even i want to plant succulent i cant. They are dying 😭😭 maybe because of our weather here in philippines. Too much humidity. Napapa SANA ALL na po ako sa mga plants hihihi. Have a good day po.
You have to try a 80-100% grit mix something like 20% compost 80% rocks or even 100% rocks for cactus (choose some rock that has feeding properties like lava and pumice or granite as seen here)
I ordered DG from Home Depot. Just picked it up and found out that it's more of a landscape-type, in other words, they're more the seived or fine granules and no coarse ones. Can I still use them? I found the coarse DG from a nursery I recently found.
I'm in south Florida, I can only get DE that is powder form, is this usable? There is 1 offered that's for insects and another to add to farm animal food. ???
Thanks for this information; just starting to grow these from leaves. I am going to keep my new little succulents in my greenhouse. What is the minimum temperature I should maintain? I live in western NC.
So far, my succulents have only ever experienced -11°Celcius or 12°Fahrenheit for acclimatized mature plants. I'm in Australia so I don't know where western NC is.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK it is on the eastern coast of the USA, but considered a southern state. It snows only sometimes in the winter. Hot and humid in the summer.
Yes and no. I haven't use pumice as a replacement for granite but doing some research on it at the moment. You can use pumice(some) but err on the side of caution.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Do you use seasol to all of your succulents? Is that what makes the succulents colorful or the whole mixture plus sunlight?
I don’t have granit , ( don’t know what it is called in my country Indonesia) can I replace it with something else? (Akadama, pumice, lava rock..). Also is the mix the same for hot humid weather? Thanks for info
Heyho Liz! So lucky to have met you just now in Pialligo. You were so informative I could listen to you all day. I bought that agavoides but can't remember the name. Also the silky looking leaves one? Can you please please help jog my memory please? Also where do you buy granite from? Thanks!

I was able to find some crushed granite, but it doesn't look like yours. Can you tell me where you get these items or perhaps something that will work as well. Thanks so much for all you do for us!
I have a TROPICAL SUCCULENT soil mix video. Use the Pumice, Zeolite and Diatomaceous earth ingredients in that video as a granite replacement and the fertilizer instructions as a guide on replacement for SEAMUNGUS. The rest, follow the instructions on the Master succulent soil mix video. Cheers
Its me again, I live in Brisbane pala, bagong adik sa cactus and succulents. I keep trying maghanap ng granite , maybe I can find at landscaping nearby. Love your collection, so spectacular. Thanks you😊😃
Only available at landscaping suppliers Sonia. Ingat lang po.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Thanks for your quick reply. Good night
Hi Liz..I watched your video a few times on how to make the different succulent soil mixes. Very informative. So lucky I found a landscaping center nearby where I can buy the crushed/decomposed granite . Talo ang hubby ko sa pgsearched hahaha. Sabi niya deco daw tawag nila sa decomposed granite. Nagpm ako sa 2 landscaping center. Obviously dito kami bibili sa malapit whuch is less 10 minutes drive only. Thanks i found you 😂😊. Salamat po. Very happy talaga. Saan mabili ang sea mungus ba un. Cheers !!!😘❤
My gosh ! Gusto ko sumugod sa garden mo! 👏 👏 gorgeous, awesome, colorful succulents you have there! Gusto ko ma achieve ang ganyang color sa succulents ko. Sa forgive 😊 me for throwing a lot of questions.
Thank you😁
I'll do even better than showing the bag. Please watch this video for reference.

hello po mam liz.. ur succulent are so goergous.. u r a master in growing those beautiful pretty succulent..
Thank you po. Not a master. Just not afraid to experiment.
I finally found decomposed granite (per your advice). However, after rinsing them I did not get big pieces like you, but about half the size of your smaller pieces in this video. Could I still use them in my own Advance Soil Mix?
I think that's crushed granite. Please watch video below. Cheers

I cant get granite here my place... can i place it with pumice. Tq lizk love all your video..🥰🥰
Haven't used pumice before but may I suggest if you do use it; try using it with vermiculite as well if you can get hold of it.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Was just about to ask this. Thank you!
Really love watching and learning from you. I can’t get granite, can pumice be a substitute?
Haven't used pumice before but may I suggest if you do use it; try using it with vermiculite as well if you can get hold of it.
Thanks I can do that.

Hi Liz
This is awesome. I would like to follow your soil recipe. Can you please let me know the name of the fertilizer you use? I cannot see here in Texas that big tablets like fertilizer?
It's called SEAMUNGUS by Neutrog. Hope you find some.
Growing Succulents with LizK Mam I already heard the name in your video. It will be great help if you can share the ingredients so that I can find any alternative or if you can share a picture with us. Thank you so very much.
And also can I use SEASOL?
Here's the link below to SEAMUNGUS and yes you can use seasol. Cheers

Hi liz. All the stuff you mentioned here i dont have majority of the mix. I love all of your succs esp the colors of all of them. I want to have all of mine colored as well but dont have the proper ingredients.
I want it to grow beautifully and colorful! What subs or can you sell them online? Tia.
All of the ingredients I use on my soil mix are available all over the world. You may just have to research what the alternative brand names are. Only my particular decomposed granite may be difficult but you can use other decomposed granite or pumice and add 5% zeolite for the mineral component similar to decomposed granite.
Beautiful color thanks for sharing Lisk Linda from Montreal Canada
You are so welcome Linda and thank you for watching.
Wow! Learned So much Useful information today! I took notes and will be buying granite , coir, and seamungus. I never heard of seamungus before, but it must be amazing. This will take my plants to the highest level👍🏻
Glad it was helpful and thank you for watching.
thank you for all the information.
Thank you for these detailed info Liz. I learned so much from you.
Hi Liz, you are an amazing grower.I love to watch your videos.just wanna ask from where you buy decomposed granite as bunnings don't have it.
Thank you for the comment and link below for the granite.

Pleasures all mine and thank you for watching.
So if I bought a new succulent and I dont know if it is prone to root rotting or not (assuming it's prone to root rot) should I play safe and use advanced soil mix diva type?
You first have to know what succulent(exact name) you have to know what soil mix it needs.
Hi ma'am LizK, special thanks for sharing all your secrets.. you have been my inspiration as a beginner to succulents..God bless you more 🙏 ❤
Thanks for watching.🥰
Very educational video. Thank you!

Hey, Liz! I am a first time viewer and new subscriber! I loved your video, the most informative I've seen yet. Youre succulents are absolutely GORGEOUS!! Im a new succulent mom but I hope one day to grow succulents as beautiful as yours 😊 you have such a beautiful energy and I cant wait to watch more of your videos!

This is perfect - Thanks!
Just received an order of various succulents and sedum and your fantastic video appeared 👍
Hi Liz! I wish I could come live with you for a month to gain some of your knowledge...lol. I'm new to succulents so have been sucking up all your videos 😉 You're so generous with your knowledge and for that I'm deeply grateful.
That would be great! Then I can have you gaining knowledge on cleaning out my garden...LOL
But seriously, I'm putting out through my videos as much as I can learn myself. So just watch my video and you'd be right. Thanks!
If you don't have any large granite to place in the bottom on your pot when re-potting. Can you use 7mm white gravel in the same way?
Yes you can.
Hi liz where can you buy a granite?
Depends where you're from but here in Australia, some Landscaping suppliers have them.
Yes I’m in Australia I went this morning to landscaper suppliers but they don’t have it here in our town. Is there any other substitute ?
Does the Black Prince need the Diva or Non-diva mix please? This is the only kind I have for now. Thanks so much. I love your channel! 💖
Black Prince can take any soil but I prefer using my Master Soil Mix for them. Just keep an eye for mealybug especially if they're grown indoors.
Thanks for watching. I do sell some only to my local area and sorry I don't know of other commercial soil mix that I can recommend.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK ok, thank you!
Hi Liz,where can I get granite, I live in Perth, I can't find from bunnings. Can I substitute with coarse sand?
I never use sand for my succulent soil mix. A good substitute is "PEA GRAVEL." They are available at Landscaping Suppliers.
Hi Reese, I need to make a correction. I just had a look at the Pea Gravel that's available in your area. It's not what I had in mind. I will find a better alternative for granite. Will be posting a video on it.
Thanks Liz, I'll be waiting for the video, When you mean pea gravel can I use the volcanic rock instead?
@@resseshihata5976 The Pea gravel I was thinking was limestone base with quartz and feldspar.
There are so many different volcanic rocks that it's hard to pin point exactly which particular type to use and this is why I chose decomposed granite.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK I love watching your videos and Im learning a lot. Thank you. Would Bunnings sell granite?
Splendid👍 so smart in growing succulents n making them full of colors. Beautiful 😍😍😍. Tks for Yr tips❤️🇲🇾

Hi Liz, Tell me is ebony diva or non diva pls? I’m really confused about this! Thanks you
Non diva. The easiest plant to look after. Pot and forget. They don't like being watered too much and thrives on neglect.

Love the term “DIVA” 😆😆 even i want to plant succulent i cant. They are dying 😭😭 maybe because of our weather here in philippines. Too much humidity. Napapa SANA ALL na po ako sa mga plants hihihi. Have a good day po.
I will eventually have a special soil mix video for humid places. Abangan nyo lang po.
Ako din. Still paying tuition fee lol
Growing Succulents with LizK yey thank you po. Mam liz nakasali na po ba kayo sa the succulent club philippines?
@@succulentnova4451 Yes of course but wala akong time to have a look. Alam mo naman...busy filming and editing videos.
Just uploaded a video for this question Cecilia. Enjoy.
I'm in south Florida, I can only get DE that is powder form, is this usable? There is 1 offered that's for insects and another to add to farm animal food. ???
Insect form is better. Cheers
Can we use pumice to replace granite? Thanks.
Yes and no. I haven't use pumice as a replacement for granite but doing some research on it at the moment. You can use pumice(some) but err on the side of caution.
hi ate liz where we can buy that granite any here in melbourne? plz response
Garden Landscaping Suppliers should have them. Just make sure it's "DECOMPOSED Granite" and not crushed Granite.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK thanks ate liz i keep looking now..
If I use soil wetter, do I still need to use seamungus to the same plant?
Seamungus is a fertilizer. Soil wetter is not a fertilizer.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Do you use seasol to all of your succulents? Is that what makes the succulents colorful or the whole mixture plus sunlight?
That excess seasol that can still be used after several days or week?
The music at the end was as beautiful as your succulents (well almost 😜). Thank you for a wonderful start to my day Liz.
My pleasure Jan. Have a wonderful day!
Liz where do you get the ingredients for your soil mix, especially the crushed granite?
I get it from a friend's property here in Canberra. The rest I buy from Bunnings.
I don’t have granit , ( don’t know what it is called in my country Indonesia) can I replace it with something else? (Akadama, pumice, lava rock..). Also is the mix the same for hot humid weather? Thanks for info
