Wow Liz that triple head ebony is going to be absolutely gorgeous!!! I finally ditched my bluebird leaves LOL but I do have the tip growing in a nursery tray well it finally sprouted roots I should say. It's funny how that sprouted roots so much faster period and I still can't tell if it's just the leaves because I did leave the tiny baby leaves on the tip and one bigger one so I can't tell if it's the tip of the stem that rooted or the leaves. But anyway I threw away my tray of bluebird leaves because they were not doing anything they were getting too wrinkled and shriveled.
When repotting or taking care of damaged plants and roots is it best to soak or spray the roots ? Enjoy your presentations and the shows . Very informative . Thank you
Hello Ms. Liz! Can you show us how you water your newly repotted succulents and what are the important things to be considered before watering them for the first time? Thanks so much! Love all your plants and your videos!
I purchased my first succulent at Home Depot and when I brought it home all the leaves fell off. I took it back and got my money back. Now I inspect their plants before buying and I wait for new shipments and buy it before they kill it. Good advice on saving the succulents.
Most succulents form commercial nurseries are pump up with fertilizers to grow them fast, but the downside is that most are weak plants that won't even survive the transport. I find that when they're grown slowly with TLC, they are much stronger and more beautiful plants.
Oh man that’s so sad when you’ll find out they’re dying on you when you just brought them home BUT thanks to you for showing us how to keep them alive 😍😍😍. God Bless sweet Lizzy and see you on your vlog.❤️❤️❤️🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
Hi Liz Watching here in Indiana USA your videos are great and thanks for all the information we are going into winter here and i just started getting succulents, lucky i have a small heated greenhouse i keep at 67F thanks again for your great videos
Not all succulents will propagate from leaves. Some like Graptoveria Purple Delight grows fast and others like Echeveria Romeo & Laui can take months or never to grow a pup. Best to practice on the easy growing ones first to gain your confidence and in no time, you'll be growing them like a pro. ☺
What medium is in the trays where you start the leaves? I notice you said peat moss is horrible stuff, but it looks like peat in those trays. Thanks for all your informative videos.
I love the crassula ovata Gollum u have! I have a few of the Gollum like urs and I have the crassula ovata hobbit which is similar. I have the same issues u do about repotting. I have to repot always. Like u said it matters where u get it.
Liz, have you try cutting stems when you have leave rot? I have experienced leaves dropping off and leaves rotting and roots and stem looks fine but if you cut it you will fine that the stem has actually rotted inside. So need to cut all the rot off to save as much as possible.
Saved a few doing that but took a long time to grow. Had a half rotten Romeo b4 and was saved by this method but took almost a year before I could transplant it into it's new pot. Six months later, gave it to a friend only to find out that it got killed by hail storm....LOL
Thank you for this video! The upside-down nursery pot technique you used on the Romeo is currently helping me save a Graptoveria Silver Star I bought from a big box chain store in the early stages of rot. 🤞
Is that small Pumice or pebbles underneath the leaves of your succulents ? Looking good I'm just a beginner . Thank you What is the name of your shade cloth and where do you buy it ?
So.. no gravel or granite in very bottom, go ahead with your master soil mix only. Tamp the soil around the plant after roots are placed ( my biggest problem ) no water, top dress w/ granite. I'm doing several things wrong but am learning so much !
What did you put between the soil and the leaves? What do you use for master soil succulent mix? I'm going to have to look and see what that means to head chop?
Headchop means, beheading the plant for propagation to grow more plants. Master soil mix is my own soil mix. I use decomposed granite as dressing between the plant and the soil. Hi Liz, help! I bought a romeo last week and it was very wet exactly the same as your arrangement . It started to rot so I repot a couple of days later in your advance mix, but the leaves continued to rot and I think I've left in a too sunny spot. Now the plant is sunburnt. Only the centre three leaves are fine. The leaves are now soft, doesn't look healthy at all. How can I save it 😭 I wish I could show you a pic
Take it out of the soil and air dry it. Keep it in a dry airy spot away from direct sunlight. Let it dry out and if it's still savable, it will grow new roots. This will take a couple of weeks if the temperature is warm/hot. If not....then it's time to buy a new one.
Hello Liz, it is summers here and the temp where I stay goes to 40-42 degree Celsius. I have two spots to keep the succulents, one receives direct morning sunlight upto 10:30 am and the other receives bright light the entire day (shaded against a wall). What would you suggest?
Most succulents "in nature," grows in open areas receiving full sun, with temperature that can go as high as 50°C and overtime have manage to adapt/survive to their environment. This is the reason why succulents are ban in some States here in Australia receiving high temperature. In captivity, ☺ we mostly get plants grown in nurseries that are under cover. So, we have to acclimate these succulents to our locations. If they have been grown in the open, straight for at least two months, they should have been acclimated to their area and can be grown out in the open with no covering despite the high temperature. Keeping them dry in summer will also stop them from burning. The ones grown in the shade for most of the day will be leggier than the ones grown in full sun. I would suggest slowly acclimating them to be grown in open areas. A shade cloth or lace curtain will help in the transition.
@@GrowingSucculentswithLizK Thank you Liz for the detailed information! You always help me out so much 😍 They have all been in the open since 8 months, I think that is enough acclimatization 😅 going to leave them be then! If roots are rotting, is it ok to leave them on the succulent when I repot it then? Also my succulent is still on the smaller side. Please help . Thank you!!
If the roots are rotting, you should cut remove the infected rotting part and let it dry up. Place it on a piece of paper towel until it completely callous off or grow roots.
Liz, I'm gonna be top dressing with pumice or something from now on on your advice. I didn't realize they could be so sensitive that just leaf contacting wet soil could introduce rot. Also, you would like succulent shopping here in the states. I feel like the prices are more reasonable here. Your 86° F makes me realize just how far Canberra is from North Idaho😁
Been looking at a few of your succulent seller websites and drooling over the plants but unfortunately, we can't bring it into Australia. We have very strict quarantine laws and it will cost a fortune to get plants here and most of then will die at holding bay.

Hi Liz! I'm learning so much from your replies to comments! Thank you for taking to time to answer 😊. I have a question, sometimes I wait until my succulent leaves go abit soft and wrinkly before I water it. But I find that watering it doesn't puff up the succulent leaves again. I leave the pot in a shallow dish of water for 1 day and it's still dry and wrinkly. I take it out of the dish, wait a few days before watering it again, then it rots 😭 I hope you can give some advice on this. Watching from Malaysia
Sounds to me like your soil mix has become hydrophobic and therefore the roots of your succulents can't absorb water. You might need to change your soil mix.
