The enterprise E is basically the culmination of all the sexiest designs of the federation. No other federation ship can instil such excitement seeing it swoop in on screen or in the midst of a firefight with the scimitar! Such a gorgeous ship.

I like the idea that the Klingon bird of prey was originally Romulan. The original plot had Kruge's crew steal it from a group of Romulans while exploring a planet. ( plot complications.)
Good List but You NEED to switch the dominion attack ship for the Dominion Battle cruiser (not battleship) It's design is so much more graceful and balanced!! and another John Eeves design!
The Excelsior, Seriously? I never liked the look of the excelsior, to me it looked like someone was carving it and never got around to finishing it then needed a ship style on short notice so they just took the incomplete model and made do.
Okay so my parents met cause my Mom thought my Dad looked kinda like Riker. So I always thought I was just too young or just in the wrong generation to see the Excelsior as an improvement over the Constitution. But I need someone to try and explain to me how the Akira Class is any less sexy than the Excelsior class.

Intrepid class is by far my fave. Though that far future Discovery version of an Intrepid looks like a polygonal ship from the SNES game Star Fox if you ask me.

I can agree with this comment. Get rid of the stupid Jellyfish and the Excelsior (it's a fine ship and a hell of a workhorse, but not the sexiest by a long shot) to make room for the Constitution Refit and Galaxy classes.

I would love to see a Star Wars ISD vs the U.S.S. Defiant. I don't know if an ISD's weapons could land enough shots before the Defiant got behind it and blew it to bits.

They'd be lucky to get off one round of EMP charges before a torpedo annihilated their entire command tower.

It just so happens that the same design concepts that reduce atmospheric drag translate well to presenting a narrower profile to shoot at during space combat. Also, as seen in Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan and the first encounter with the Borg in the Next Generation episode Q Who?, the narrow neck section was a major weak point in combat, so when the Sovereign was designed to eliminate that weak point while still maintaining the distinctive saucer and engineering sections, a side effect was a more compact and aerodynamic looking ship.
@@thoruszwolf4153 One of the ugliest Federation ships. That vinyl siding on the neck, ugh. And the refit that gave it jowls on the engineering hull makes it look like a pregnant guppy. About the only Federation ship uglier is the Oberth.
Lol i was going to do a post for the excelsior/b 😄 though it wasnt the neck for me, it was the twiggy right angle pylons with that weird tacked on pod. Plus i always disliked the C. It kinda looked like "generic star trek design"

Constitution Refit is such a beautiful ship to look at, probably even more beautiful than Excelsior which is like the Toyota of Starfleet. Negh`Var is also a pretty cool ship.
I'm not the most educated when it comes to Star Trek universe, however I enjoy the "Corvette" and "modernized" style of the NX-01. I think it may forever be my favorite starship. 🖤
I really liked that design as well. It was the perfect fit for what it was supposed to be. That said idk if "sexy" is the term I would use. I would call it a great design without any hesitation but not sexy, but to each their own.
Tbh it's probably the idea of being pioneers that's sexy to me. Reminds me of a classic car, not the safest or the fastest, yet somehow the primitive design is more appealing and usually it's due to being a more practical look based on necessity rather than aesthetics.

To a few people I know and to myself, Akira the anime is not as impressive as many other people think (they are free to think it impressive, I will never tell a person what to think) and therefore having the name Akira attached to something as an obvious reference brings with it the connotation of not being all its hyped up to be. This is a personal opinion for the people I know who hold this view. This is a big part of why the NX will always look better than the Akira to my eyes, not that the Akira looks horrible or anything. To be fair, it looks better than half of the stuff on this list.
NX-01 was about as close to steampunk as _Star Trek_ could reasonably go. She's an awkward mass of support struts, pylons, and exposed pipes and cables-cool and rugged, but not remotely elegant.

The lack of the Miranda-class in both this video and the comments disturbs me. I like it equally as much as both the refit Connie and the Sovvie. Personally TMP has my favorite aesthetic, I just love the nacelle design and the sorta boxier yet sleek ships. I hate the galaxy-class though. It's so damn fat

I’m afraid I must disagree. When I think of attractive Star Trek ships, I think of the following: 1. Nova class 2. D’kyr 3. Constitution (refit) 4. Wells class 5. D’deridex type warbird 6. Galor class cruiser 7. Maquis raider 8. Intrepid class 9. Type X shuttlepod (Chaffee) 10. Romulan shuttlecraft
10:53 is the funniest thing I've seen in a long time, thanks for that laugh! But yea, the Excelsior's transwarp drive didn't fail exactly, it was sabotaged by Scotty before it left spacedock. Now, it's possible that after the events of the movie Starfleet managed to repair the drive and it still didn't work as intended and the entire project was scrapped, but to my knowledge that's never been canonically acknowledged, so for all intents and purposes, it didn't "fail".
Presumably there was a lot more experimentation that didn't pan out. It's just inconceivable that Starfleet would go to all the trouble of developing the technology, installing it in a demonstrator, and then immediately discarding it the first time it had a problem.

Thank you for *not* including the new Curiosity class from Picard aka the _copy paste_ fleet. But you did miss some _hot Federation ships._ The *Akira, Steamrunner* and *Saber* class all debuted in _Star Trek First Contact,_ along with the *Sovereign* Class. And they were definitely StarFleet, but they got away from the overused _Primary and Secondary hull with two Warp Nacelles on pylons angled up_ paradigm that's getting a bit tired… They had completely different layouts, due to the fact that the new Enterprise-E was also making its debut, and they didn't want casual viewers confused over which was the hero ship - I brought a friend who isn't a Trekkie to the opening night screening, and he was confused when a cheer went up through the cinema as the *Defiant* appeared onscreen ("I take it I'm missing something about that ship?" was whispered in my ear). If only Star Trek had carried on with the concept of unconventional designs… That reminds me, another sexy ship, the *Prometheus* Class (when it's in one section). The 4 Nacelles look balanced [a constant bugbear with most Federation ships is they look like they are designed for a up and down universe], and it's definitely sleek. As well the *Dauntless* Class fake StarFleet Quantum Slipstream ship was a masterclass in looking like you're going at transwarp while you're standing still. And the in-universe irony is that StarFleet copied the basic design for their first serious attempt at a Quantum Slipstream ship, since it was a proven design that Voyager had scanned. It fact Voyager had a lot of interesting and attractive ships as their _Aliens of the week._ Due to the fact that they didn't need to fit in with any known species design linage, the designers could go wild. And they had just transitioned to CGI which allowed their creativity to take flight. Could be worth a video or two?

Yea, though to be fair the Danube-class was intended to be a very small but fully functional and independent starship that could take on extended missions away from a support base or mothership. The Delta Flyer, on the other hand, was more of a tricked out long range shuttlecraft that wasn't capable of the same extended missions that the runabouts were.
I would have included a Runabout into the mix. I know that most see them as a space winnebago, but I always thought they were really cool, thought out ships with lots of space and viewports for luxury or convenience.
Just a thought on the Enterprise-E and its design. I think that how good that ship looks is due in large part to the fact that it was deliberately designed with the wide format of movies in mind, replacing the designed for 4:3 Enterprise-D. I think the D looks great, truly. Part of that is due to its successful use of the space provided by a television screen back in the day. The same concept goes for the E, it makes great use of the widescreen formats that movies prefer. Combine that with how the various widescreen formats tend to be liked more than the old 4:3 of television and you get a better looking ship in a better looking space making great use of that space. If the video had kept 100% within the ST universe I would not think this worth adding, but since he did go into that bit about the bird of prey and whatnot.....
Part of the reason I love the 'D' was it pushed the boundaries for a typical starship configuration. I admit it looks strange from certain angles, but the ship as a whole and separated just work for me. The 'E' look gorgeous, but safe, harkening on the earlier refit/ 'A'. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not as different as the Enterprise-D.
That's also why they refit the original Enterprise in The Motion Picture - the original design was shorter to look better on 1966 TV screens, but they stretched it out with swept back nacelle struts and longer nacelles to match the wider theatrical screens. There was also the fact that the old TV model wasn't nearly detailed enough to hold up on the big screens so part of the redesign's goal was to add a lot more hull details to look more interesting, which is also similar to how and why the Galaxy class has a more uniform gray with minor color highlights while the Sovereign has a lot more variations of color.
Yeah, DS9's Runabout did seem like a perfect vehicle, a small SUV of sorts, something that can take you to most places. Bigger and safer than a TOS shuttlecraft.
The Enterprise-E is an overrated ship. The Galaxy and Nebula classes were way cooler looking. The clip you showed was from ROTJ not ANH in 77... The Jem Hedar fighters looked like roaches.

When I started following Generation Tech it was Sci-fi all over, not only Star Wars. And I hoped for a wider content of movies here on Generation Films, not only just Sci-fi, as it was in the last months. But I think, that's Covid-19s fault at some points, because there ist almost no new movies to follow. Anyway! I enjoy every episode of both, and you manage it to bring boring content with an energy, that it becomes entertaining again. As said, you make great work and the energy and entertainment, you bring in to these episodes are awesome, but I wish a little bit wider arsenal for the future. 😊
I will agree that the 1701E was a super sexy ship, and would have been my choice for number 1! Number 2 Should have been the Refit version of the 1701/1701A. That design is as sexy as they come! Number 3 should be the TOS 1701! She set the style and basic designs for all the ships that Starfleet produced. She is a beauty if ever there was one! That’s my top three, but it is very late where I am, so I will leave it there, and go to bed! 🖖🏼😎
Any such list devoid of either the 1701 Refit or the 1701-D are by definition wrong. There wouldn't be millions of Trek fans if those ships weren't beautiful and graceful. Also I would include the Romulan Warbird as well as the Voyager-era Borg Cube. That said, agreed on the Klingon Bird of Prey.
Have to point out that S-Foil type adjusting wings are probably not from Star Wars. Militaries have used S-Foil aircraft since the 60 at least. However the name S-Foil is from Star Wars. They are often refered to as things like 'variable-goemetry wings". In many real life vehicles; the swept wong is for long distance and high speed travel; where as the straight wong format is for dog fighting. However in Sci-Fi one usually form usually means power from weapons is diverted to engines. This was originally the case with the X-Wing, but im unsure if that's been retconned now.
The USS Defiant was beautiful like watching an MMA fighter move about the octagon. Its not grace, or anesthetics, or elegance...its power, raw force, deadly kinetic energy. It looks like a punch. And that makes it beautiful.

I specially liked Voyager bridge. Specially the Captian's little retractable console. This ship seems like a Mercedes luxury limusine version of star ships and a new one at that.
My top 3 favorite Ships would be the NX-01 Enterprise, Enterprise E, and Enterprise Refit/A. Yeah, I'm basic. lol

But yea, the Excelsior's transwarp drive didn't fail exactly, it was sabotaged by Scotty before it left spacedock. Now, it's possible that after the events of the movie Starfleet managed to repair the drive and it still didn't work as intended and the entire project was scrapped, but to my knowledge that's never been canonically acknowledged, so for all intents and purposes, it didn't "fail".
Presumably there was a lot more experimentation that didn't pan out. It's just inconceivable that Starfleet would go to all the trouble of developing the technology, installing it in a demonstrator, and then immediately discarding it the first time it had a problem.

Glad you're back, for a while we had Mr. Expanse aka American Ben talking Star Trek, it was horrible so horrible like a book by Sylvester Stalone on being pregnant, he had no idea what he was talking about. I love the guy don't get me wrong & I see him improving by leaps & bounds (I love the guy) but when it comes to Star Trek... nothing compares to you.

But you did miss some _hot Federation ships._
The *Akira, Steamrunner* and *Saber* class all debuted in _Star Trek First Contact,_ along with the *Sovereign* Class. And they were definitely StarFleet, but they got away from the overused _Primary and Secondary hull with two Warp Nacelles on pylons angled up_ paradigm that's getting a bit tired…
They had completely different layouts, due to the fact that the new Enterprise-E was also making its debut, and they didn't want casual viewers confused over which was the hero ship - I brought a friend who isn't a Trekkie to the opening night screening, and he was confused when a cheer went up through the cinema as the *Defiant* appeared onscreen ("I take it I'm missing something about that ship?" was whispered in my ear).
If only Star Trek had carried on with the concept of unconventional designs…
That reminds me, another sexy ship, the *Prometheus* Class (when it's in one section).
The 4 Nacelles look balanced [a constant bugbear with most Federation ships is they look like they are designed for a up and down universe], and it's definitely sleek.
As well the *Dauntless* Class fake StarFleet Quantum Slipstream ship was a masterclass in looking like you're going at transwarp while you're standing still. And the in-universe irony is that StarFleet copied the basic design for their first serious attempt at a Quantum Slipstream ship, since it was a proven design that Voyager had scanned.
It fact Voyager had a lot of interesting and attractive ships as their _Aliens of the week._ Due to the fact that they didn't need to fit in with any known species design linage, the designers could go wild. And they had just transitioned to CGI which allowed their creativity to take flight.

Yea, though to be fair the Danube-class was intended to be a very small but fully functional and independent starship that could take on extended missions away from a support base or mothership. The Delta Flyer, on the other hand, was more of a tricked out long range shuttlecraft that wasn't capable of the same extended missions that the runabouts were.

I would have included a Runabout into the mix. I know that most see them as a space winnebago, but I always thought they were really cool, thought out ships with lots of space and viewports for luxury or convenience.

Just a thought on the Enterprise-E and its design. I think that how good that ship looks is due in large part to the fact that it was deliberately designed with the wide format of movies in mind, replacing the designed for 4:3 Enterprise-D.
I think the D looks great, truly. Part of that is due to its successful use of the space provided by a television screen back in the day. The same concept goes for the E, it makes great use of the widescreen formats that movies prefer. Combine that with how the various widescreen formats tend to be liked more than the old 4:3 of television and you get a better looking ship in a better looking space making great use of that space.
If the video had kept 100% within the ST universe I would not think this worth adding, but since he did go into that bit about the bird of prey and whatnot.....
Part of the reason I love the 'D' was it pushed the boundaries for a typical starship configuration. I admit it looks strange from certain angles, but the ship as a whole and separated just work for me. The 'E' look gorgeous, but safe, harkening on the earlier refit/ 'A'. Not necessarily a bad thing, just not as different as the Enterprise-D.
That's also why they refit the original Enterprise in The Motion Picture - the original design was shorter to look better on 1966 TV screens, but they stretched it out with swept back nacelle struts and longer nacelles to match the wider theatrical screens. There was also the fact that the old TV model wasn't nearly detailed enough to hold up on the big screens so part of the redesign's goal was to add a lot more hull details to look more interesting, which is also similar to how and why the Galaxy class has a more uniform gray with minor color highlights while the Sovereign has a lot more variations of color.
USS Dauntless. This isn't debatable.
I would have put Defiant as #2. Love that undersized, over powered, gun of a ship.

Yeah, DS9's Runabout did seem like a perfect vehicle, a small SUV of sorts, something that can take you to most places. Bigger and safer than a TOS shuttlecraft.

The Enterprise-E is an overrated ship. The Galaxy and Nebula classes were way cooler looking. The clip you showed was from ROTJ not ANH in 77... The Jem Hedar fighters looked like roaches.

But was do I expect from a person, who claims, that a 70 (or whatever) old musician created out of spare parts, looks 25? I still have some problems with, that the Star Trek content changed from Generation Tech to Generation Films. When I started following Generation Tech it was Sci-fi all over, not only Star Wars. And I hoped for a wider content of movies here on Generation Films, not only just Sci-fi, as it was in the last months. But I think, that's Covid-19s fault at some points, because there ist almost no new movies to follow. Anyway! I enjoy every episode of both, and you manage it to bring boring content with an energy, that it becomes entertaining again. As said, you make great work and the energy and entertainment, you bring in to these episodes are awesome, but I wish a little bit wider arsenal for the future. 😊

Number 2 Should have been the Refit version of the 1701/1701A. That design is as sexy as they come!
Number 3 should be the TOS 1701! She set the style and basic designs for all the ships that Starfleet produced. She is a beauty if ever there was one!

Any such list devoid of either the 1701 Refit or the 1701-D are by definition wrong. There wouldn't be millions of Trek fans if those ships weren't beautiful and graceful.
Also I would include the Romulan Warbird as well as the Voyager-era Borg Cube.

Have to point out that S-Foil type adjusting wings are probably not from Star Wars.
Militaries have used S-Foil aircraft since the 60 at least. However the name S-Foil is from Star Wars. They are often refered to as things like 'variable-goemetry wings".
In many real life vehicles; the swept wong is for long distance and high speed travel; where as the straight wong format is for dog fighting.
However in Sci-Fi one usually form usually means power from weapons is diverted to engines. This was originally the case with the X-Wing, but im unsure if that's been retconned now.
The USS Defiant was beautiful like watching an MMA fighter move about the octagon. Its not grace, or anesthetics, or elegance...its power, raw force, deadly kinetic energy. It looks like a punch.
And that makes it beautiful.
