I've been knitting for 55 years & crocheting for 49. I can crochet for hours doing complex freeform designs but knitting is now making my hands sore. Looking to change my technique I came across your channel & have started retraining. At 63 I am always surprised what I can learn from younger people. You have the knack! Thank you.

Hey, maybe try Portuguese knitting method. It's a very effective way to knit, less painful for hands and not very different than continental/english knitting. Hope that can help you.

The measuring trick for the long-tail cast on is GENIUS. I have been knitting for a while but have always just “winged it” for the length of my long tail cast ons. I’m pretty sure you just altered the course of my entire life 😂🎉

I FINALLY KNIT SOMETHING!!!!! I’ve been crocheting for a few years, would consider myself an advanced crocheter, but could never pick up knitting. I logically knew how to do it but my hands didn’t understand how to do what my brain was telling them to 😂 I think knitting is so much harder than crochet. As a result I just couldn’t gather enough patience to actually make a finished product. This is a great tutorial, I actually followed through with making a full beanie and it turned out perfect. I’m so proud of myself 💞

I've always wanted to learn how to knit. Thank you for making this easy to understand. I was able to do this project... it took awhile to finish but I got it. There are a few mistakes but not bad for a first time knitter. I tried attaching a picture but it wouldn't let me. I now have the confidence to try other projects.

I know you hate Caron simply soft but I had some left over from YEARS ago in a bright almost neon pink and stranded it with 2 strands of a Caron simply soft pale pink and it turned out amazing! Didn’t think I’d ever use up that stash. Wish I could upload a picture. Anyway super soft squishy warm and cozy! Thanks for easy to follow tutorial!

That's what drew me to your channel in the first place, your top tutorials are so easy to follow! Thanks for sharing your talents with us Kelsie. ❤ These hats are so nice, warm and perfect for our stupid arctic weather we're getting here in Michigan 😂💖 I can't wait to see what is next. 😊

Awesome. Ty for tutorial. I'm a big crochet girly. I've never knitted in round but wanted to forever almost, lol, Im retired now. I've knitted & crocheted since I was 7. My Mom taught me to knit & grandma taught me to crochet, now you a younger generation, is teaching me, love it! I got rid of my circular knitting machine after 48 hats for charity. I hated its frustration with dropped stitches, too inconsistent. I ordered circular needles today. I can't wait to crank out some more hats for gifts. Ty again for posting.

I bought some yarn that I was hoping would work in my sentro but did not. But I want to use it to make this pattern!😅
edit- I got the lion brand super bulky yarn in the baby pink color, I didn’t like it to hand knit with it either kept sticking to my needles, so I ended up double stranding and it worked better and came out super good. Thank you Kelsie !

Hi so I just learned to knit two days ago just finished this hat and love it! Random question is there a proper way to slip slip to decrease I noticed for each decrease row you do it a little different. First one you go through the front on the first loop and normal through the second loop before the knit, second row you go through the front on both loops before you knit, and the last row you go through the front of the first loop and then just attach to the second loop to do a knit. Not sure if that made sense sorry! 😅

    • @PassioKnitKelsie
      @PassioKnitKelsie  26 днів тому +2

If you’re a beginner you should look up the slip slip knit decrease vs the knit 2 together decrease :) it just determines which stitch ends up on top, the first one or the second one. I am doing it an interesting way so that none of my stitches get twisted and they lay flat (because I purl through the back loop)

However, the kit I bought came with I think 4.5” long needles and a 24” cable. I made it work but my SIL said to buy the shorter needles, so I ordered those and now I see they only go to 6mm 🤦🏼‍♀️
Anyone know what I should buy so I stop wasting money? 😂

Will this crown decrease work if I make a smaller beanie (single stand if worsted weight yarn and 4mm or 5mm needles? I assume I'll have to repeat the third SSK only round another time or two to get the stitches down enough... Will that look right?

AAHHHH! knitting was always so scary and confusing to me as a crochet girlie, but needing an emergency belated christmas present i had to learn and make a beanie QUICK! felt like i was throwing gang signs at first while learning how to hold the yarn/tension/needles but a few rows in it started to feel more natural. although i had yarn splitting issues, i was able to fix most of them by the time i did a full rotation back around the project to drop the split parts that caught on the needle. it came out near perfect, but i feel that my stitches/tension was too loose. which is weird cuz usually i have the opposite issue when i crochet wayyy too tight sometimes lol. planning to already make another beanie or 2 i'll be able to improve!

Thank you for the tutorial. Easy to follow. What brand needles are you using if I may ask?

I tried searching the comments to see if someone else asked but couldn't find anything. What is the finished weight of the beanie? What length should I knit for a brimless beanie? How much does that weigh? Sorry for all the questions 😅 I'm trying see if I have enough yarn

If you have a longer cable, it depends. If it's much longer (32" or 40"), look up magic loop or traveling loop. If it's 24" tip to tip, it's going to be tricky. I'd probably try to use DPNs (double pointed needles). Worst case scenario, you could make the hat flat and seam it up at the end. Best of luck!

Do you have to use short needles to make this in the round?

May I ask where you got you’re knitting needles from? I’m trying to buy a set and not sure if I should do Amazon or hobbi
