Feeling defeated, I checked back just to admire the promo picture of the limited edition SD that I knew I’d never see in person…BUT then by a miracle of the valve gods, the BUY NOW button was back! I quickly pressed it and this time it went through like a normal transaction. I was actually able to get one 😭 I’m literally opening it right now as I watch Tech Dweeb review his because I was out of town. I asked my mom if she could camp at my house and make sure to put the box inside my home when it arrived. She left it on my desk ❤️ thanks mom!

You had an identical purchase experience to me. I just gave up thinking they were all gone. Only to see a comment on the WAN show that they were in stock. Bought it immediately. Compared to my 256 non etched lcd, it's unbelievable the improvement. I dont see myself needing a new handheld pc for a good while. I do kinda wish the case didnt have that velcro in the middle now. It makes opening it slightly more annoying. Also the charging brick's cable is waaaaaaaay longer than the old one, actually usable now.
little PSA, make sure you plug some medium-high sensitivity headphones or IEMs into the headphone jack whilenot in game and no audio is playing. my LE just revealed that the amplifier is bad, there's a nasty low level hissing and EMF sound when using some higher sensitivity iems that my regular LCD deck doesnt have, and the higher impedance Aful Magicone IEMs i was using have been masking it somewhat. the amplifier is separate from the one for the speakers, which are fine, and the dock audio out is fine, so i think the DAC is fine, but the headphone jack amp is bad.
I feel the same about the Etched Display I like the look. I ended up putting a matte screen protector on my Switch Oled because of the reflections. Comes down to personal preference both displays look amazing.
Mine should arrive the day after tomorrow, went for 1TB non-LE variant. My excitement for it goes through the roof because screen was always my main issue with the original model and OLED was everything I wanted out of it

Realllllly hoping you do a deep dive on the emulation on this device. I just got one too, but not sure if the best ways to setup retro arch or whatever the currently suggested front end for emulation should be. Congrats on also getting the limited 🍊 one. I got the same last week. Been having a blast with it. Only complaint, Cyberpunk and Baldur’s Gate 3 drain the entire new battery in 2 hours. I thought something was wrong w my Deck until I saw everyone else report the same. It will run for 5 hours on simple pixel games, but 2 hours tops on a blockbuster title. I hope they offer better batteries and cooling on the next revision, since the entire point is to replace the desktop gaming pc with a to-go option. Yes we can plug it in, but then it feels tethered and not truly a handheld. Glad it’s modular and likely that we will be able to upgrade at least the battery at some point.

Congrats on finally getting your OLED LE version. I received mine a couple of weeks ago. In my scenario I ran the dead pixel test and it passed all colors except trouble with one pixel under blue. However, it appears that it is a low performing pixel as it does display all other shades of blue with no problem. I tested videos, emulation, etc and was not able to reproduce the dead pixel. Overall, it seems that the one pixel may not be able to reach that high range level of blue on the test, but games do not even reach those color levels. It plays perfectly and decided to keep it.
I dont want a 1tb one or the limited because of that etched glass. Literally if you want that you can just get a screen protector, all having the main screen etched does is make using screen protectors really weird because you dont want to put a glossy screen protector over the etched glass, but if you put an etched glass screen protector over it will certainly have image quality issues through the double etched glass, leaves the only option to leave the screen unprotected which is just not an option at all for most people who care about their precious deck
Steam deck to me is old hardware at this point, i dont have one, but i rather wait until Valve releases either a slim line version, or the steam deck 2.....i dont see anything different other than just an oled screen....still same hardware
Old hardware compared to a gaming desktop PC but what makes a great gaming desktop is not the same thing as what makes a good handheld. PC handhelds are not ideal to play modern triple A titles but almost every thing else run just fine on the Deck with at least 2 hours of battery life and with the OLED 3 hours.
Hey TechD, noone is doing this for some odd reason (maybe am unware of because UA-cam only scratches the surface when it comes to specifically searched topics) but do some extreme mods on it. Maybe not on the limited edition one.
The hardest part about buying the limited edition oled Steam Deck is figuring out what to do with your existing 512 lcd Deck.
Keep it. Then your Deck can have a buddy to play with when they come to life the moment you leave the house or fall asleep.
I put my 512 lcd on eBay and helped pay for the Oled 1tb which I just received today 😊

The LE version has the screen from another manufacturer and there have been issues from it. The regular edition has them mixed in.

It typically shows up on 16 ohm headphones (like earbuds and IEMs). Higher impedance headphones hide the noise better. @@TechDweeb
