I don't know what it is, I've never been particularly involved in any kind of MK game, and only mildly involved in any kind of competitive fighting games in the past, but for some reason every Ketchup & Mustard video manages to be thoroughly entertaining and truly informative. Truly, good work gentlemen and keep it up, and I'll keep watching.
The combos were bad enough, but it was the super one-sided fights in Konquest that were true nightmares. "Beat Scorpion while you're degenerating and he does triple damage" was easily the worst.
These kombo challenges were so difficult. They made kid-me feel like a total sucker at fighting games. It would sting even more when I would get many done but still have that one kombo keeping me stuck, preventing me from getting the achievement for that character. I have completed only a few of these but I am interested in doing all of them one day. Totally enjoying the increased coverage of this often forgotten MK game! UPDATE: Finally kompleted them all
When I was doing the joker combos. I did the hard one you were mentioning. Dropped it. Then started doing it again and it said success before I even finished it.
Enjoyed the commentary here. Oh, this reminds me, when you get to Kitana's C. History episode and her MKvsDC portion, you'll probably mention how she has mileena's ball roll. I hope you also mention that this is common practice in MK games, where characters get other characters' moves, it's not a kitana thing. Some examples below: -Reptile got Sub-Zero's slide in MK2 -Smoke got Scorp's spear and teleport in UMK3, and Reptile's invisibility -Jade got Cage's shadow kick in MK3 -Alien got Baraka's moves in MKX -Mileena got Sonya's leg grab in MKX -Mileena got Reptile's invisibility in MK11 -Mileena got Kira's (Deception) fatality in MK9 -Kenshi got Ermac's "lift" in MKDA -Tanya got Kitana's "kiss of death" fatality in MK4 There are definitely more examples, but this should be enough I think. Apologies for the long comment lol, I just don't like this idea that some people have that Kitana "steals" moves, this has been happening in the series for a while.
I've been asking for this game mode to come back ever since 2008. It helped me improve at this game so much, and would have helped me a lot if it was in mkx
I'd say that even the 'easy' ones could be a bit of a nightmare for players who werent already familiar with the mechanics and combo structure of the game, if only because no-where in MKvsDC itself or the manual does the game explain what a pro move is or how to do them, which can lead to a lot of confusion as to what exactly your supposed to press there without, well, leaving the game to look it up online. and if your doing that out off frustration, chances are you might not want to come back to the game
Boy, there must be a huge skill gap that I am missing. You say many of these are extremely easy, but every single one was a pain. The only one I finished was Jax, and that took me at least an excruciating hour or so.
I'm hoping at some point down the line we could get Competitive Histories of MK vs DC / Injustice Characters, would be great to see although admittedly not as much content there
I wish they had these in mkx and mk11! I own so many fighting games that I don't have time to dig deep on, doing these is a fun way to connect to a game without a huge time investment. I love em!
This is the game that got me really into combos and timing and all that. Loved doing these challenges. They were cool. Superman, Liu Kang, and Kitana(my favorite) were probably my favorites. Joker and Shang were the hardest for me.
I recently bought this game & still can't complete half of the challenges--even after watching along with videos on UA-cam. Either my timing's off, or, something... I hate this part of 'Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe', personally.
The advancement in 360 emulation, made me play this game again. 16 years later, I find its very fun on a casual level. Not the worst fighting game ever made. And there is definitely some fun to be had.
I did them all and got the achievement for it. But I remember Joker being the hardest by far. Alot of his combos required spamming a button to get the pro move and that was real tough to do on a xb360 pad.
Anyone knows what is the name of the song from the intro and outro??? I remember hearing them from umk3 but can't find it on the osts and unfortunately I don't have the game right now to see if the song was really there or if I am just remembering wrong. I appreciate any help!
No salt and great vid, but it's funny listening in and hearing you say "If you know the timing and you know the spacing, the combo is easy." Yes, that is how combo challenges tend to work out xD
Somehow I never even managed to get the tap 4 pro move on Joker ever right. Is it a timing thing, a frquence of taps thing or just a speed of taps thing?
MK Vs. DC combo trials were great overall. Another point I wanna bring up is that they were better than MVC3's combo trials, because in MK VS. DC, the inputs for the combos were on screen, unlike in MVC3 in which you had only the names of the moves (and only on the left side of the screen, not in the middle) and you had to always pause the game, go to the char's movelist, read the inputs and then memorize it all before going back to the trial. That made even the easy combos in MVC3 to be really annoying, I speak from experience, trust me.
The moves also scroll on the side of the screen for longer combos instead of displaying the full list. Absolute nightmare for characters with branching specials like Dante
Watching this video just made me catch something I have never noticed in all my years as an MK fan.. Sub-Zero's stance in MK9 looks like a recycled version Shao Kahn's in MKvsDCU
to be honest i remember this game cause of highschool. these combos i swear the AI abused them on higher difficulties especially Raiden and Shang cause i had a deja vu flashback just remembering all of the matches with them...
I can consistently do combos with a 2 frame window that changes based on character height/weight in blazblue and still cant complete that same characters, arguably easier, combo trials. Combo trails just hit different
This game feels like making it 2d and making pro-moves into "ex" moves could be a amazing form to play this. Outside the broken things of 3d MK this game always feells more fun than later Injustice aka Zoner Wars game

"Some are harder than others." Yeah... that's... that's kinda normal for combo trials in games. Some characters have easier ones while others wanna make you eat your controller. I thought every fighting game player knew this..
Should include a trigger warning for Mileena fans, given you see Kitana doing ball roll in this video... In seriousness though, I wouldn't underestimate how intimidating combos in general are for a large part of the audience - there are people who've commented on my videos seemingly impressed by my skill level. But anyone with actual skills wouldn't say that, because I suck. So there are plenty who wouldn't find the "easy" ones easy. It really doesn't help in the case of MKvDC having the challenges but not having demonstrations, as you found by having to figure out where on screen you're even supposed to start. Side note, I kind of see shades of beta MK11 in the "promove" system, back when amplified specials had specific inputs rather than a universal button.
The biggest reasons why some people dislike this game: 1. The violence was heavily toned down (it's the only T-rated game in the series) 2. A lot of people hated how the game controlled, like how sidestepping worked and the promove system (but this could easily be a subjective thing, the game is clearly still playable) 3. The game hardly had any extra content compared to its other 3D peers. There were no mini games, koins, or Krypt (Midway was going bankrupt at the time and had little time to develop the game) Keep in mind that I DON'T dislike this game, I actually consider it quite decent, and in fact, I find it to be overhated and underrated. But it's probably still the worst game of the main series
Let us all take a moment to appreciate the sacrifice Ketchup made to the overall well-being of his own fingers for this video.

Same. I play Smash and Pokken just for fun and could care less about MK, but these videos are fun!
Vividly remember shedding tears and telling myself I'm not going to bed till I get Shazams 10th kombo.. i eventually completed all kombos in the game
Everyone remembers the infamous mk deception raiden 10 hit : 1, 1, 2, Style Change, 1, 3, Style Change, 4, Back + 2. It took hours to beat as a kid
YESSSSSS
I had a lot of trouble with Havoc’s, and don’t want to go back to every do it again

@@lilwyvern4 Try the Shang Tsung challenge in the Netherrealm where he heals and you bleed. Damn near impossible without cheesing it.
I never really did struggle with that combo as a kid, let alone now. Though I did main him as a kid so I guess that’s why

Linking achievements to them is pointless IMO as the top ones are clearly designed for elite players. Casual players will likely never beat them
@David Saul You're not wrong. I already did all of them and got my achievement so I'm happy about that 😌
Les goooo
I love the use of KoF XIII music in the background of a video about combo trials. That's some fun meta humor there lol
The timing on those MK VS DC combos are tight. Even that first wave of characters isn't as easy as you make it seem. The are juggling adds to it
When I was doing the joker combos. I did the hard one you were mentioning. Dropped it. Then started doing it again and it said success before I even finished it.
Raiden is notorious for having the hardest Kombo Trials in the 3D era, was glad they brought that trope back for MK vs DC
Enjoyed the commentary here. Oh, this reminds me, when you get to Kitana's C. History episode and her MKvsDC portion, you'll probably mention how she has mileena's ball roll. You have a combo trial tier list
I think they're all hard
We are not the same.
I've been asking for this game mode to come back ever since 2008. It helped me improve at this game so much, and would have helped me a lot if it was in mkx
As long as they don't tie achievements to beating them all
I think the majority of time I spent playing MK v DC was the combo challenges
The Kombos in 3D era Konquest Mode were enough for me. I don't think I kept MKvDC long enough to attempt these.
Oh man I STRUGGLED with these kombo challenges when I was a kid. They ruined my entire month just trying to complete them.
KOF XIII ost let’s freaking go
oh I saw the thumbnail and thought you'd be covering the random "do a 20 hit combo as this character" side quests in deception

Raiden trials are basically extra style points

NRS is starving the public so bad about the next game that content creators are going back to MK vs DC to fill the void.
This is the game that got me really into combos and timing and all that. Loved doing these challenges. They were cool. Superman, Liu Kang, and Kitana(my favorite) were probably my favorites. Joker and Shang were the hardest for me.
That Wonder Woman air spin move might be one of the worst MK animations ever, good god that looked bad.
K&M are slowly morphing to become the David Attenboroughs of fighting scene. Great job 👏

MK vs DC would've been much better as a 2D fighter tbh

The biggest reasons why some people dislike this game:
